Disappointment...

Post by addo »

Today the mechanic I used to work part time with, called up to ask when I was taking away the newer toy (my shiny blue 605). Reckoned he'd finished servicing it.

It turns out he'd backed it into something; the repair will be about $600 - my estimate - and more frustratingly the damage was in one of the most untouched areas.

Took it for a brief maiden run tonight after the insurances were paid and personal plates fitted ($346+$530+$358=£810). Said bloke hadn't screwed the coolant reservoir cap on, and I probably have a cooked PRV.

I'm very unhappy about all this; not angry - just incredibly disappointed at my misplaced trust. There's any number of ways I could have spent that last £3500 and still have something of greater value remaining.

Ouch; not the best news you can get and losing the confidence of someone
you have trusted before is a biggie on top of the calamity of the damage
to an otherwise perfect sounding area of the car.

What's worse and more frustrating is the fact you didn't do the initial damage
yourself but it rattled you which likely led to the overheating. :(

You have my commiserations Adam.

Sympathies mate. This is why I will now never allow anyone to touch or service my vehicles. I either do it myself or it doesn't get done, only have myself to blame for any issues then.

I'll be compression testing the motor over "le weekend", but it looks to be rather steamy on the exhaust and the oil cap was slightly milky inside.

Clearly I wasn't the only one having a crap Thursday; an acquaintance decided he'd had enough and fed the exhaust back into his car, parked beside his shed last night. One less talented, creative and entertaining person in the world...

Thats appalling, I feel truly saddened by that news. I also have personal experience of someone taking their own life, with a shotgun. He was a really good bloke, do anything for anyone and devoted to his family. He never showed any signs of the turmoil he obviously felt inside so it was a massive shock to hear the news. That our world should compel people to this terrible act is something that fills me with sorrow.

That is extremely sad Adam.

Where I've worked the past 20+ years is literally bordering a church.
When some things used to feel like they were getting on top me, guy
I once worked with used to quip there's a whole graveyard full of people
next door who'd love to be in my position coping with my trials and
tribulations.

A dent in a car's panel or a weeping head gasket doesn't begin to matter
when you put this perspective on things.
