There's nothing to rust on a Xantia - it's all plastic! The roof won't rot
either as it has decent rust prevention throughout the bodyshell - estate
rear door jambs accepted.

Yes, on a Cx it's a rust trap if the drain pipes are blocked up - I have many
Cx's where the roof is fine - regular blow throughs of an airline on the drain
pipes helps a lot. The Xm is somewhere in between with the plastic tray but
metal cables that grot and sieze up leaving the sunroof somewhat redundant.

...trouble is Andrew, not all owners of sunroof'd CXs do this and before they know it they're getting a free shower around corner's and their roof is rusty!

I had to vote no because of the headroom issue.

My first Xantia was a 2.0 VSX with sunroof and no A/C, and the lack of A/C was the only reason I sold it (it was in absolutely mint condition even at 90,000 miles).

Getting the V6 was a revelation in comfort, having headroom and cool travel in summer without deafening wind noise.

I also need A/C because I have and allergy to tree pollen, closed windows and a good pollen filter takes away that worry when driving.

Yesterday I drove 500 miles down to Burgundy, at 75-85 MPH. The noise would have been unbearable with an open sunroof, and the heat uncomfortable without A/C.

This 'debate' is always going to be as divided as petrol v's diesel, saloon
v's estate or series 1 v's series 2 or even Xantia v's C5 etc as for many it's
obviously a key requirement in the main building block elements that make
everyone's car throughout this forum different and special to that individual.
It's why car manufacturers offer such long option lists with many taking
these to a new level in the art of p**s taking; BMW and Porsche spring to
mind here. The danger of making any car so personalised which is clearly
and cleverly being demonstrated with Citroen's new DS3 is the end result,
whilst perfect for the buyer may be totally abhorrent to the next prospective
buyer. Definitely a case of one man's meat being another man!s poison!

As a matter of fact, I'm loving the fact so many here hate sunroof cars!
Less chance of disappointments on eBay then... ;)

Sunroof for me, I love em.
(well, I hope that's what I voted..my French et tres,erm, ruste' )

My thinking is: we get so little really hot sunny days here, and folk are always moaning about the crap weather, that when it does come along, like this early hot run we're getting now..they then go and freeze themselves with the a/c !

I prefer to embrace the sun, and bake myself burnt in typical English fashion

Unfortunately my motor aint got one  I loved it in my Mundano..
I also like the extra cabin light aspect also of a sunroof.

I have a/c but I never use it. (could that cause any issues I wonder, lack of use?...)

I can understand people liking a/c,if you do a lot of miles, stuck in traffic, a rep etc.

Messy job! Somebody was very frustrated :)

Almost every Renault Clio sunroof looks like this:

They all leak and ruin the IR receiver on the roof which in turn leads to hideous immobiliser problems.

Good old Renault :D
French is best.

Nope :D It's Mauritius Blue with dark carpets and cream seats and door cards...

Possibly unique!!! The seats and cards were fitted relatively recently in the history of the car... It left the factory with the black ones normally found in blue cars...

I second that the Xantia sunroof will never cause roof rust as it's designed to leak into the internal guttering arrangement around the edge of it. However, the gutter spouts can break and water can then find its way to the floorpans. They might rust in time but the number of soggy Xantias I've seen so far have resisted it remarkably well..

In this picture you can see the end of the gutter, the spout (repaired) and the downpipe to the drain hole in the top of the rear wing...

That might be something to add to the list of things to check on the XM, blocked sunroof drains. If anything has blocked it will have been caught well in time being a garage stored beast most of its life. Hopefully that will continue if I can find somewhere :)

No. But if you can count the odd occasion where I cook in the car, you could say yes

It's become clear that the same types of people are voting for AC and Sunroofs.

They are short in build for seat sitting and have slim hands to get behind AC Condenser units to remove leaves

Rulers and sticks? Have you seen where the condesnser is buried at the
sharp(ish) end of a C4?

My sister couldn't get her AC working and popped into ATS for a free
test/40quid top up and has just had to pay £350 this Thursay to renew a
rotting AC condesnser where leaves and crap have been fed up between the
rad and the AC rad and only in just 5 years since new it's rotted out losing
the liquid in the system.

Check yours out now to spare you being done over by this nasty
financial gotcha!
