Day of Truth

Post by Toby_HDi »

After a years lay up the Activa is (hopefully) going for an MOT tomorrow. :?

Exhaust has been done so I just hope it passes, though after a year of non use I don't hold out much hope if I'm honest.

Reason for this is that I've just been out to pop on a replacement battery as the old one has had it. This replacement battery is actually the old one from the Coupé which I gave to Mike and he has kindly lent it back. It wasn't the healthiest of batteries to start with and it didn't start the Activa. I've jumped started it in the hope the alternator will force a bit of charge in but we'll see if it starts tomorrow morning.

I've also moved it and it is very hard and bouncy, it was fine before it was rested so I think a quick look at the rear dog bone tomorrow morning, if its not that I do not know.

The brakes are probably a mess too. It has the spare wheel on due to a puncture and is a bit lumpy (which can be sorted out on the way to the MOT hopefully)

Even so, I still hope it passes so I can start driving it again. I'll post here tomorrow regarding the result - watch this space!

Best of luck Toby. Look at it as a recommissioning heads-up where a minimum
requirement checklist will thoroughly throw up things that need doing if it does
fail - these days, the orange form is as interesting (depressing?) reading as
the red one...

My MOTman is particularly fussy about my hydraulic Cits having good soft
suspension movement and tests by a frankly weak press down onto the front
nosecone. Problem is, he used to run a Xantia so I can't bluff that a getting
firm ride is the sportier hydractive!

Most recent TCT Xm drives just fine as far as I was concerned and even after a
new centre sphere but seemed reluctant to wobble about the place the way
I'm sure he was expecting it to in a boggo hydropneumatic styley so it took
some persuasion.

Any Activa back on the road is a good thing in the delicate balance in the
the level of 'the force'

If it's not too late, you're welcome to come grab the other battery, Toby.

Otherwise, fingers-crossed for the test!

It's now at the garage.

I was going to nab the battery from my sisters car but couldn't find her keys. As I can cope with not going anywhere today I've put the Coupé's brand new battery on the Xantia just for the test.

£30 of BP Ultimate in and a good run over. Slightly nervous now, going to phone about 4pm, should be done by then.

I am gobsmacked.

One Citroen Xantia Activa. One year of it not running.

Result...??

Passed!!!!

Just two advisories:

Offside Rear tyre close to legal limit

Offside Rear fluid suspension unit slightly deteriorated.

I honestly expected it to fail on many things. Next step is insurance, then tax once the cover note has arrived. Then I get to drive it again!
