Scrap Cats

Post by Toby_HDi »

The recent story regarding thefts of cats from cars due to the price of scrap reminded me I have two sitting in the garage to get rid of. I phoned a few merchants today and to be honest was disappointed with the quotes.

Has scrap metal suddenly fallen? Was the story made up? Or were these merchants chancing it that they could buy cheaply?

They are from a Vauxhall Omega 3.0 and I thought they would be worth around £50 each, best I was quoted was £20 each.

Anyone know what they are currently worth?
Toby

try some further afield but they may quote low as they would be interested in higher volumes to be honest as its easier for them to weigh in and smelt down to, ie why loads are being nicked at once...

Great if you run an exhaust place yourself and not as a chain or a car breakers :-)

My two cats often scrap but I guess it's not that sort of cat we're talking about here...

I believe them to be OEM. They even have the Lambdas still in them, not that they would be much use now.

Its a bugger, I was banking on them bringing some cash in as I'm broke for the month again

Nothing like good pussy. :D.

I threw my old cat on tip after getting a straight through pipe for my 1.9 TD. Never knew there was any value, lol.
Car has been far better since--now averaging 44-45 mpg.
Average taken after 6 complete refills---filled till I see the level in filler neck remain level.

I exercised some revenge for Malcolm the other day, by cutting a Dee into pieces with a grinder.

Not really; the shell was rotten through. Another fellow took the business end after I trimmed the dumb irons off and cut its chassis where the sills met front hinge pillars.
