I was expecting the "u" word to be levelled at the Ami not the ripple bonnet!
That bonnet is truly fabulous and far superior to the later flimsier versions.
If I have to keep only one 2CV I plan to have my genuine '60 vintage ripple
bonnet running on 12v and a 602cc engine with inboard discs but it looks like
drums are the way to make it work. Must admit that's very much a work in
progress and towards the back of the que...

Well i also own a slow, old noisy car but it's not a citroen & it's currently registered as 'SORN' but as soon as i have some spare money it'll be re- insured & the Xantia will be left to gather moss, well ok maybe it'll have a few days of rest whilst i blow the cobwebs off my v8 Chevy
Anyway I'm surprised no-ones (off here) put a bit in for that DS, it looks gorgeous even if it's a slightly dubious color (dont think much of them door mirrors either tbh)

A chevy i understand, very nice and i love the Ami too but the 2CV has never done it for me, i just dont get it.
Now a DS i wouldnt mind but an SM is higher up the list, just a stunning looking car.

Slow and noisey is the appeal of the 2cv, its back to basics motoring.
I do quite like them, and for the odd trek out in one id probably have fun in it, but id not use it much.
Saying that i think im getting old way before my time, im starting to dislike noisy, slow, hard riding and uncomfortable cars more all the time.

Apart from a female i met via a salon who owned a 2cv (& was totally uninterested in me! ) i have very little knowledge of the 2cv but i do have fond memories of my (late ) father taking an interest in one when the 'dolly' was first launched, well i think it was a 'dolly', it was a burgundy & black model we spotted at a car show, he liked citroens and went on to own 2 bx's and an exclusive (misty lilac) picasso

Maroon & Black? That'd be a Charleston; one of the most successful special
editions invented!

yellow & black was nicer:
is that the female quintet as she seems friendly...

Sounds like a 2cv Charleston:
My parents had lots of 2cvs years and years ago, I grew up with them having a bright yellow LHD Acadiane Mixte (the one with rear seats).
Ive never actually driven a 2CV, but i believe the Renault 4 is quite similar, i really used to enjoy driving our 72 R4, totally different type of motoring, really taught me a few driving lessons too.
If everyone learn to drive in a 2cv, we would no doubt have a few better drivers on our roads.
EDIT: Aww, too late, ive been beaten to it! Citroen recently made a new version of the Charleston, in the C3 Pluriel.

Alas the female 2cv owner i met a few times never got that friendly with me, she is part of my very distant remote missed opportunities memory(her fault lol), i seem to re-call her car was predominantly beige & had a flower print on its door . So the maroon & black version was the charleston version? was the 'dolly' the red and white 2cv spec' version?andmcit wrote:yellow & black was nicer:

My pick of the bunch is this
A very reasonable price actually, considering it has a long MOT.
405 Tank

Almost as fetching as that zebra Bx a short while back.
You're not actually buying a car anymore but one person's work of art...
Do folk out there in eBayland REALLY think they're being clever and
artistic expressing their individuality on a new Dulux paint job when
they're just making themselves look like right idiots and someone to
best be avoided on the road at any cost?

I cannot emphasize enough JUST how rare this is:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-CX-GTI-TU ... 0572855025
- easily one of the best recent Citroens to own and one that will surely
be sought after and command the money in the future if that kinda thing
means a lot to you - still a very rapid superb long distance everyday use
car that stands out from all the other dross on the roads in quite probably
the best colour these ever came in.
VERY VERY VERY rare and a unique opportunity. If I didn't have a load
of these already I'd have won the bidding the last time round.
If you want the full buyer's beware lowdown and chapter and verse,
just ask as these could possibly be my specialized subject for Mastermind
- I just adore them.

...hopefully it won't be beyond repair but the idea will be to restore to as good as condition as possible.andmcit wrote:Aren't you just planning to scrap it though if it's not totally mint or under 30k miles...
Sadly though, the Series 1 GTi Turbos aren't as sort after or worth as much as the GTi Turbo 2s on the open market.
It'll join the queue behind some other GTi Turbos and then we'll breath some new life into it at some point.

The sharknose D, especially the 23EFi Pallas, is the one everyone get's
excited about, waving their arms around about and jumping up and down
with infantile excitement when they turn up for sale etc yet the cars that
are harder to find which command the bucks too are the early frogeyed Ds's...
...I'm personally convinced the very limited production window of s1 t1 will
set it apart from the other turbos. Heyho. I don't have any plan for making
my s1 t1 or s2 2's generate any money in the short or long term future.
