So it WAS a known issue and i needn't have removed the grey clip on mine?

What relay is it that snags the clip and can you just yank it out, assuming it has to go back in after the session???

Yes its true, you can remove the grey clip if you prefer, as for what that relay does I've not bothered finding out as it doesn't affect how the diagnostic session runs, just pull out the relay and pop it back in afterwards.
