VAT on fuel - extra hidden duty

Post by Paul-R »

Not just applicable to French cars but important nonetheless.

When vat was reduced to 15% in January 2009 the chancellor levied an extra 2p per litre of fuel, to compensate for the loss of revenue from the vat reduction.

Now that vat has now gone back to 17.5%, guess what, the extra 2p is still there!

Don't let them get away with it.

Yes I remember this, they put the price up in a hurry because they dropped the VAT

I see now VAT is back, the extra has not come off, and I bet it will still go up at the next budget :(
