Hi citronut
It is worth reading section 4 on the rear of an MOT pass certificate.
It includes:
"It does not mean that the vehicle fully meets all legal requirements or that it will continue to be roadworthy for the next year. It is your responsibility to keep the vehicle maintained so that it would always meet MOT standards and be free from other defects".
Section 4 on the Red Fail certificate makes clear that using the vehicle on the public road may result in prosecution for driving an unroadworthy vehicle. If section C of the failure form is filled in with a dangerous to drive notice then techically repair on site for that fault is the only option unless the vehicle is traillered away. This section of the form also comments on your failure to maintain your vehicle adequately as no car in use on a public road should fail an MOT when tested.
Retests within 10 working days may be charged a retest fee if the vehicle is taken away from site to conduct the repairs. If repaired on site no fee may be charged. Most test stations ignore the right to charge for a retest as otherwise their site would be forever cluttered with failed cars awaiting repairs.
Section 1 of the fail certificate confirms that the original certificate remains valid for its full period.
If you continue to use the car and get pulled over then they will tap up the full VOSA history and get the fail items listed before they come and talk to you. You cannot be prosecuted for not having a valid MOT but they do have the list of items to check to do you for using an unroadworthy vehicle. Unrepaired section C items make this a virtual certainty even if you are on the way back from the test.

Re: Free MOT's by Citroen!
Had a phone call from the Lincoln Citroen dealers, they are now partaking in the MOT scheme. Well lets hope the bl£$dy ABS light doesn't light up for the MOT tomorrow.howiedean wrote:The catch seems to be, no Citroen dealers seem to be in on the deal, well the three local dealers near me are not anyway.andmcit wrote:Yes, I kid you not.

I can't see it yet, but there's got to be a catch!
The normal test's full price is a bit chunky mind...
are they planning to lace your coffee in the waiting
area so you buy a new car when some unfixable
nasty is discovered on your pride and joy?
More to the point, would any Citroen dealer now even
recognise a Xantia let alone an XM?

After seeing this on here i cautiously went for this main stealer offer (despite still having 4 months mot) and apparently it failed on offside registration bulb failing, funny that it was working fine this morning when i checked all the lights.
Still for 74p for a years mot cant be bad- not to mention wasting their time in car sales! So thanks to the forum for spotting this.
