Free MOT's by Citroen!
Yes, I kid you not.

I can't see it yet, but there's got to be a catch!
The normal test's full price is a bit chunky mind...
are they planning to lace your coffee in the waiting
area so you buy a new car when some unfixable
nasty is discovered on your pride and joy?
More to the point, would any Citroen dealer now even
recognise a Xantia let alone an XM?

Sounds like a pretty good deal really. I always think dealers might try and make things out to be worse than they are so you have to pay to get the thing fixed. But i use a main Ford dealer for most of the MOTs and ive never had a problem yet.
I use a Ford dealer because its very local and only £20 a test.

Re: Free MOT's by Citroen!
The catch seems to be, no Citroen dealers seem to be in on the deal, well the three local dealers near me are not anyway.andmcit wrote:Yes, I kid you not.

The catch is if you don't pass and take the car away to put right, they charge the full price to do a re-test.
I've got Juliet booked in at the local Peugeots for her MoT on Friday so it will be interesting to see what happens.
If she fails, then Mr Clutch is offering MoT's for only £21 so it still won't break the bank.

Forgive my repeating this from club-xm if you've read it there but I've had
a mull over this and think I may know where they're coming from!
It's quite brilliant really. Its a great way to bring a private car owner (dying breed these days) with their vehicle
older than 4 years into the showroom and have them wait for over an hour while it's being tested. With all the
price stickers two grand less having been scrappaged and an offer of a test drive in the shiny new C5 outside the
salesman's job is done for them - ie. motivating people to go to the dalership in the first place and target older
car owners in particular! I got the heads up from Citroen because I've asked for news emails in the past so clearly
I'd be ripe to entice in too...
And what's a £50 loss leader incentive when you're signing up for a £15k car?
Like I say, brilliant, there probably isn't a catch. It certainly won't hurt either if people see old Citroens
passing MOT's at a Citroen garage either!

If your car fails, you no longer have a valid MoT as your car has been deemed unroadworthy.Kowalski wrote:Its worth going for the free MOT, even if yours isn't due for 6 months. If it passes, you've got 12 months until your next MOT. If it fails, the expiry date on your current MOT doesn't change and you can consider this a free inspection.
With it all being kept on database these days, I'd think it'd be harder to get away with showing the original MoT if stopped.

Hi Xac,
I tend to agree with you !
So before you part with your hard earned cash on your next second hand car purchase, (If the vehicle has/had an MOT) ask the seller for the reg. number (If your not aware of it) plus the Document Reference Number from the V5C
I hope this may be of use !

If you take a look at the same post/discussion on the BXC and especially the quote (By ed4ferrets) which I've copied and pasted below:-Xac wrote:If your car fails, you no longer have a valid MoT as your car has been deemed unroadworthy.Kowalski wrote:Its worth going for the free MOT, even if yours isn't due for 6 months. Just try it out, especially if you have a vehicle which you've owned since 2005 (Hopefully you may remember all the 1st passes or second attempt re-test you've had) I'm sure you'll all be impressed with the info the VOSA data base holds/reveals about ited4ferrets wrote:The entire computerised MOT history shows, fails, advisories, the whole lot 8). Always handy to know what previous owner/s didn't bother to mention (possibly) needed doing for the next MOT

i think they cant charge anything for a re/test if the car is put back in within 10 wotking days, (this is not including bank hols and weekends) as they are only alowed to check items it failed on within the 10 days,
also even if you car fails whilst it still has a curent MOT, the curent one still stands untill its expiry date, regardless of what it might fail on,
