I set them up using an old Voyager 210 modem...
That's interesting. I thought that the Voyager 2100 was ADSL only and limited to 2.2Mbps maximum. AFAIK you need ADSL2 for up to 8Mbps and ADSL2+ for up to 16/20 Mbps. Am I wrong on this?

Hmmmm, think I might be a bit wrong here.

I've found some information that normal ADSL is a maximum of 8Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. This is from the original ratification in 1998. There are later variations of this which up it to 12/1.3 and even 12/1.8 over ISDN.

ADSL2 is originally 12/1 in 2002 when it was ratified. There are later variants including 12/3.5. You can have an extra 256Kbps upstream if the bandwidth normally used for ordinary phone conversation is allocated to ADSL2 if you're using VOIP.

ADSL2+ is 24/1 in 2003 with a later variant at 24/3.5. Again, you can have an extra 256Kbps upstream if the bandwidth normally used for ordinary phone conversation is allocated to ADSL2 if you're using VOIP.

These are all standards and some modem manufacturers support non-standard upstream speeds of 2Mbps in ADSL2 and ADSL2+.

Which brings me back to the Voyager. I now think that I'm confusing it with the original BT implementation which was limited 2.2Mbps.

Is that better?
