activa

Post by citrov6 »

bit of a feeler really, thinking about trading my red v6 for an activa, have always wanted one. the black one i use every day for comfort, activa will be for fun. within a year i want one whether it is in a few weeks or several months. though i am aware there is a lot more to it than buying a hydractive, which is why i don't mind waiting

may even try all that weight saving stuff taking out the interior etc see what sort of a difference it actually makes.

but mainly i want the chassis to be straight, and the activa part working well. everything else such as engine , transmission, paintwork, interior seat condition doesn't worry me too much.

either exchange for a v6 or if it is the right one i will buy it

Whilst you say it doesn't matter there's a few variables even taking into
account the limited number of Activae registerd:

S1 or s2? AC or sunroof or both, leather or cloth etc.

I'd leave Activa seats and interior as they are - everything works just fine and
in fact the seats are the best in any Xantia. The car is designed to be a sporty
Citroen with an emphasis on refinement and comfort very much in the same
way as the V6 is understated in it's appearance and general demeanour until
you provoke it...

In actual fact, the Activa bit can sometimes pass some people by if they
don't actually drive the car and think it's a level of trim!!

So. What £ value do you have attached to your V6?
What colour Activa do you fancy?

if seats are that good i will keep them

and if the car is going to be comfortable to drive every day i wouldn't say no to aircon and leather either

i'm quite attached to the s2 shape but i would take an s1 if it works well.

something that bothers me is that parts for older cars are disapearing, so would that mean that parts for an s2 are more likely to stay available than an s1 for a few years?

not sure about colour

not sure about what value to put on the v6. its not perfect, but it runs smoothly, almost like the other one i have that has half the mileage

Mind it has to be said, the Xantia V6 completely trounces the Activa on fuel
economy! Well, certainly the way I drive an Activa which is the only way
out here in the wilds and twisties here in South Wales...

I've never known a car devour so much fuel as the Activa even comparing
the similarly engined TCT Xm, a CX GTi Turbo and 12v and 24v Xm's. I'm
sure Jim will say he can get 40mpg out of one but it must fall straight onto
the motorway and not accelerate or change gears often!! The upside to
compensate is a gorgeous light clutch and the effortless ease it can despatch
corners and muppets in cars that are visibly and physically trying too hard
when all said and done it's just like a TD Xantia - well, the same is true in
terms of Q-car appeal with a V6.

I don't think there's any difference in terms of availability of parts - if
anything s2 body parts and lights are harder to get as there were so few
of them - I've waited over a year for silver wide wings and two years for
black one's and undamaged s2 bumpers don't exist!

I could very well be interested in another V6 in a few month's time
- especially if my s2 V6 is still in a position where it's not starting...

please drop me a line when you've made a plan. I may even be prepared
to put a new MOT on a 68k miler silver s1 I have and consider a deal! I'm
still not firm in my thought yet either.

that would be excellent Andy! i really want it to go to an enthusiast who will look after it, even though its not perfect, it has a lot of character and has been through a lot with me over the last 7 years. the reason i have not let it go yet cos i did not find this xant enthusiast forum until a few months ago, and no-one to appreciate it, my fear was the next owner would put it in a scrapage scheme.

on the motorway the v6 gets 35mpg at motorway speed. knock of the speed down to around 2000rpm and it gives a couple more mpg. only point at which they guzzle fuel is when they are stuck in traffic. i'm lucky my time is staggered so i missed traffic so far. still on commuting to birmingham it gets 26mpg

  I reckon about 22

I can confirm the V6 (now my daily driver) is more economical all-round.

With my Activa I get about 33 to 34 on a run but need to be quite light-footed to do it. The V6 will do the same but you don't need to be so light-footed :)

I once got 39 mpg from my old Activa and 37 from my current one but both times that was at 65-70 on very clear motorways.

One thing I will say is that after the V6 you'll find the Activa 2.0TCT a bit flat and lacking in urge

The trouble witha V6 is they're a corrupting influence  Once sampled, nothing else quite comes close. I reckon you'll love the Activa handling and ride to bits but the need for more power will soon become apparent..

A V6 Activa WILL be sought!

I have had the opportunity to try out a V6 Xantia, and like CitroJim said, they do have a "corrupting influence" which the other half also experienced and liked, this pleased me no end, so a V6 Activa is on the cards! 8)

haha lucky you, actually don't think mine will take much convincing, got her to drive round bedford autodrome at 110mph in the v6

i believe your right, i have to have more than 4 cylinders in my car, thats how weak i am. the thought of getting a lefty v6 from france is the other idea

OR since this is turbo charged and the gears a lot closer than the v6 some decent size turbo could be put on it. i don't know much about this engine but i read in some of the other activa posts it can take 300bhp and i suppose a decent amount of torque, just in its standard form.

thats really nice, same colour scheme as my ordinary v6. wonder what its reserve was, though this guy has no feedback it would be a long way to go on without that info. otherwise it is tempting.

think i need to let my idea of what activa i want crystallise lol

Interesting that over the water Citroën sold Activa's with the older and less supportive VSX style seat's, I reckon that's a lot of money for a relatively basic spec Activa. no A/C, winter pack etc.
