This is more of a general thing; I have heard in passing about people offering services to reset deployed airbag controllers.
Given the cost of a new unit, I can understand why.
I'm not talking about bodgy fixes to kill a warning light; more about restoring the contact breaking/making part, which I understand to be a gold-plated ball on a magnetic catch (or, something like that!), and replacing stored data with a null value.
Has anyone opened up a controller, to see what physically goes on?
How hard is it to purge/replace data? Could a typical boffin identify which part to cancel, and what parts to leave (ie; to remain recognisable to the BSI)?
Thanks, Adam.

I opened up an airbag controller recently. It had a lot of memory chips in it!
The bit which does the triggering, looks to be wholly re-usable. I haven't dissected this, but it doesn't give any hint of frangibility.
Anyhow - in a nutshell, I now share the confidence of established "airbag resetting" agents that the unit would function a second time, in a manner equal to that in which it first operated, were the data aspects cleared/reset.
