Payback Time

Post by ellevie »

As you all know Jon has found himself in a bit of a tight spot partly as a result of having forked out more than £500 in the last year or so for our benefit in funding the BXC and FCF forums.

In a discussion on the Forum Hosting Fees thread about this I have offered to contribute £10 to a separate reimbursement fund speculating that if 50 others between the two forums were to do likewise this would raise £500 which would go a fair ways towards reimbursing him.
See, http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 8&start=30
and http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9640

I realise this is a pretty delicate issue but what the hell the offer should at least be made.

To avoid using PayPal we could use the Barclays paying-in-slip method perhaps marking the reference box with "user name - payback" to distinguish the payment from the forum fund donation.

Any takers in principle ?

We have 5 so far --- just another 45 to go LOL

Many thanks !

rory_perrett has started the ball rolling with an online banking transfer so I've followed suit and made a Barclays paying-in-slip deposit to Jon's account with the reference "ellevie - payback".

To follow the progress,
see http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=25739

Please don't put "ellevie - payback" as your reference. I only gave this as an example.
If your user name is "joebloggs" then your reference should be "joebloggs - payback"

Sorry !

Just a reminder --- this is NOT the forum hosting fund. This is a separate appeal aiming to raise £500 @ £10 each from 50 persons for Jon's personal use. Jon has been generous to a fault over the years in funding both forums out of his own pocket and now he unfortunately finds himself in financial difficulties.

Please help if you can.

I have heard that Jon is aware of your generosity and is incredibly grateful for all that has been done. He is particularly overwhelmed and heartened by the number of members who have come to his aid.

Thanks again.

Hi Anders,

You can indeed PayPal Jon at webmaster@bxclub.co.uk

We'll also set up a PayPal on the forum hosting account in due course.

You can donate using Paypal to webmaster@bxclub.co.uk. Please include the word "payback" to indicate that the payment is for Jon's personal use as opposed to the hosting fund.

Many thanks for your generosity.

Members outside some Euro club of bankers won’t be able to contribute because they will get slapped with a charge several times greater than the intended contribution.

I've been pondering this; hating PP intensely makes me look for workarounds.

Typically I seem to pay about $35 for a deposit to overseas institution. If several of us were willing to "share" a single deposit it might be more acceptable. Five Aussies tipping in $50 each would about equal five £20 contributions by the time it was done.

(And yes, I am 100% happy to entrust you with my part of the contribution.)

There is a simple but comparatively risky alternative.
Cash!

I have bought items from eBay sellers in Spain, Portugal, France Germany and Holland. Also direct from an orchestra in Poland. All for relatively small amounts - around £20 in most cases.

More recently tickets from France for quite a lot of money.

Everyone was scrupulously honest and despatched the items directly on receipt of the cash and in one case even before that.

The risk here lies in the money going missing in the post, of course, not the recipient cheating you on the deal.
