Amtex Spheres part numbers.

Post by David W »

Do Amtex spheres always come with the N xxxxxx type numbers as in the GSF listings... or can they come with different part numbers when from different suppliers??

Thanks,

All the GSF ones I have bought recently have had their full details printed on them: Pressure, date manufactured and application and in most cases, the GSF part No. either on a paper label or in felt-tip pen. Most have had a big "XT" on them suggesting they're for a Xantia. Most too have SP followed by three digits (e.g. SP703) I've not worked out what that means though although each application has a different SP number.

So, even if there is no part no. on them, there is enough writing on them to determine their application.

Actually it was an EBay listing that made me ask the question Malcolm. Can't stand the hassle of getting wrong ones and exchanging etc so wanted to be 100% sure they were the right ones. The listing said tell us your car after doing the buy it now and we will send what you need.

Asked seller to confirm the ones they would send for my particular car and they evaded the question repeating the "tell us your details after purchase and you'll get the correct ones" line. They also ignored my query about delivery times.

So they didn't get my business and new ones arrive from GSF this morning!

Always exciting seeing how a "new to you" car goes when you have bought it with below par spheres (just the rear in this case). Also this car is getting a new rear height corrector assy so with both jobs done the improvement should be significant.

Don't know if this would be any help?

I punched the code on my 1.9's rear sphere's into google, they started with an S (or maybe SP) and that's how I found out Central Auto Supplies (may they burn for eternity in the fires of hell) had given me hydractive spheres for a non-hydractive car!

Amtex is a very common company name and all the hits thrown up by Google has nothing whatsever to do with spheres!!!

Amtex and GSF are one and the same company-go into the Amtex 'shop' on ebay and this is how they describe themselves:
Welcome to the Amtex Ebay shop for Car Parts for European cars. We are a trading arm of GSF Car Parts, one of the UK's biggest parts suppliers, with 50 branches Nationwide. We specialise in high quality, reasonably priced parts for VW Audi BMW Mercedes Saab Volvo Seat Skoda Citroen Peugeot Renault.

Thanks for posting that link xac.... that has been on my PC for a good while and my sphere "bible". Very useful for anyone who hasn't seen it before.

Interesting that the "Amtex" Ebay seller is GSF... so at least we can trust them.

Mine have arrived from GSF through the normal channels but I will probably use them next time via EBay.

The acc sphere prices are the same...GSF shop is plus VAT, ebay price inclusive (19.50 +VAT = 22.91). Pairs are cheaper on ebay, though...
