Got me thinking ...

Post by AndersDK »

Looking at Andrew's shiny red M-reg Xantia 1.8 16V (in the for sale forum) has really set off some thoughts on my side ...

What sort of money would it take to deliver this parked on Esbjerg harbour ?
Assuming the car is self powered on wheels that is ...

You can get a ferry one-way from Harwich to Esjberg for around £270 with DFDS.

Why would you want to bring a RHD Xantia to Denmark when you've got the whole of Europe to choose from if you go for a left-hooker instead?

... because a decent LHD M-reg Xantia lo-miler here in DK would start at some £2500.
Then try a look on German or French car for sale sites for a price indicator ...

Does that convince you ?

What would a LHD Xantia with a dead engine or massive miles cost you in DK? All you'd be after is some bodywork that wasn't too shabby. Would it be worth buying a cheap one in the UK and swapping some parts across to your hypothetical LHD?

£75 for a car that only needs the following:

Exhaust needs fitting - if it's a big deal I can fit the one I've got
Rear spheres needed - if it's a good deal I can sell the one's I've got
Front number plate for MOT!!
AND It'll need a battery - these are like gold dust in my barn!

Sounds like a bargain to me compared with £2500
Cheap flight from Esbjerg to Stanstead for 119DKK (£10.81) on Ryanair
£30 National Express coach ride to Cardiff (as a rough guide to South Wales where the car is)
1.9TD+ SX Xantia Estate (Cassy) running on 100% veg
1.9TD SX Xantia Hatchback (Jenny) running on 100% veg for sale
Laguna II 2.0dCi Privilege (Monty)
