I pimped my ride!

Post by James.UK »

I took the word (name) 'Avantage' off the back of my car and replaced it with the word 'AUTO' in 1-1/2 inch crome letters!! :D

I know.. I know.. its complete overkill  but ****** with it! we are only young once.. 8) heh heh ..

James, please note for future reference, that bad language is not tolerated on the forum.

You could put 'TURBO' on the other side to balance things!

OI that's a bit sneaky Batwad!! tsk tsk.   ..

But most ZX owners will know you don't get turbo's on the ZX diesel auto..
 . The turbo would kill the gearbox I think.. :(

Clearly the engine will wreck the auto which is why they went on making 1905 turbo Xantia automatics after the conversion to 90 and 110 HDi manuals.

Hmmm good point Jeremy.. :?

When I bought all the volcane bits for my car, the Volcanes 1.9TD engine was on the bench, I asked if they could swop the engines over, but was told that the auto gearbox would not take the torque the turbo engine would put out and refused to sell it to me.. ??

When I met someone who had a Xantia 1.9TD auto I assumed that the Xantia auto box is different to that fitted in the ZX.. :dunno:

Sooo.. The question is.. Would the Volcane TD engine have fitted my auto box and worked ok in my ZX?

Hi James, I think the answer to that one is not for long, one of the BX club guys has a TD auto BX but I believe its been done using a TD Xantia gearbox. as for the stickers.... :?: :)

The question of the capacities of ZF autos is interesting. I see that the ZX 1.9D one is described as 4HP 14, the one fitted to Range Rovers (with the 3.5 litre engine) is a 4HP 22 and the one for the Xantia is a 4HP 20
I expect there are more model numbers that relate to specific applications but I wonder if the 14, 20 and 22 relates to its capacity or is simply more of a sub-class as it were.

Workshop manual for one on here:

I know that autos have a very wide application range - the old BW 35 box would be found in everything from Morris Oxfords up to Daimler 2.5V8's and Rover 3500's and its improved version - the 65 and 66 went into 4.2 Jaguar series 3 saloons (205 BHP and 230 lb ft torque)

I'm glad you mentioned that site - I hadn't had a look on there for ages & I notice they've now got a download of the full Citroen 228 page manual on Xsara multiplex wiring. I've been after some info on that for a while.
Some nice light bedtime reading
