Remember reading a while back in one of the Telegraph's "Honest John's" column about a chap who had a BMW from new and because he'd changed the oil too soon for a synthetic the engine hadn't "bedded in" and was using quite a bit of oil. Apparently over gentle use of a new engine is not a good thing it would seem. Anyone old enough to remember the "Running in please pass" sign people used to put in the back window?! Also decoking, reboring! Crikey, how times have changed. Thanks to modern lubricants, fuels and engineering tolerances many modern engines will now go several times times round the clock with no more than routine servicing, oil and filter changes IMHO.

thats why i find it so amusing that haynes still has chapters devoted to rebulding an engine from scratch (methinks not a very common activity nowadays) and then has two paragraphs on the air con....

From the sound and feel of my car maybe theres a bit of a maximum of how much you can thrash a new car

It chugs now on occasion, even at motorway speeds. Wilkobob says thats down to air in the fuel lines, so made sure the filler cap was properly tight which it was.

Damn I miss the Xantia!

thought the 14HDI was a joint development between Ford/PSU so you have the same engine as in the C3 etc......besides isnt your fiesta able to (step back in amazement) play MP3 tracks......wow what a step forward

Unfortunatly not, even to say its a Zetec-Climate which is nunber 6 out of 9 model levels so fairly high up really.

But it doesnt even come with an MP3 stereo which is crap. Even the filler cap has to be unlocked with the key, christ! even the Xantia was a push open one (central locking locked)....and this car costs over £11k.

This is another reason why I hate this car so much. Its expensive and has sod all in terms of features, but thanks for winding me up even more   :)

The engine is really tinny and sounds crap!

The boot doesnt even have a release on the boot itself, so if it shuts you have to rummage for your key again, or go back to the front of the dash. If the car is unlocked there should be a button at the boot lock, like 'other' cars.

Hmm what else annoys me.....you have got me on a moan now hehehe.

The seat being hard and is very limited in terms of movement, that you struggle to rest your left foot anywhere other than the clutch pedal and the nice bit of footwell dash that sticks in your leg if you try to get comfortable on a long drive.

The Fiesta I think would seriously benefit from having a nice centre console, you know the whole armrest surround (but obviously no armrest as that would be too costly for Ford) but just a whole plastic unit around the handbrake to the gear stick, rather than all those annoying gaps and holes which get covered in crap and putting your hand through accidentally.

The amount of road noise is quite crap really, and WhatCar confirms this, who wants to spend over £11k on a car where you can quite easily hear the road roar.

The fact that its called Zetec-Climate, which to me suggests it benefits from "Climate Control". Well it doesnt, its just a standard dial with hot and cold colours. No 'auto' feature like the Xantia.

The Toyota Corrolla had climate control, the Honda Civic had climate control (both digital operated)...but they didnt have the word 'Cimate' in the model name, my ex work mate also found that out with his brand new Focus Zetec-Climate....its just standard Air Con.

Close to 7000 miles and theres now an evident rattle either near the ignition area (not keys ) or the wing mirror remote area.

£11k ...... what a waste of money!

ahhh well....boot release sounds the same as the old escort mk5 i had, only releases with engine turned of?

i think its there to stop the boot being opened in traffic and your stuff being chored

every fiesta i have had has had hard seats

trouble with climate control is there is a lot more to go wrong in the car (my climate control doesnt work in the xantia) so i would actually prefer air con without climate

suspected the engine would be tinny etc but do you get 70 to the gallon?

The boot wont release if the engine is running, obviously a safety feature and what have you. Im just referring to, if your transporting stuff (like moving house and what have you), you leave the car unlocked but want to shut the boot as your only going to be 30 secs away from the car but dont want the boot open for obvious reasons, it would be nice just to press a switch underneath the tailgate to open it rather than find where you just put your keys or go round and open the door to press the release button....not very practical in that respect!

Agreed, it is something more that can go wrong, but in my opinion as a consumer that should be against the misleading regulations or something using the term 'Climate' when NO climate is actually present!

Dont know much about gallons i'm afraid, but I can get about 500 miles to a tank, using the A/C mostly, mainly motorway driving between 70 to 85.

Thing is it sounds so tinny, it sounds as if its knackered....and great with this chugging motion too!

yeah the boot used to irritate me with my escort as well.....but c'est la vie

ford have always added the word 'sport' to a lot of their cars as well which is probably even more misleading!!

i was looking at an o4 corsa (£2500 if you werent depressed enough :D ) that was tinny as well, revved like a small motorbike (sort of c90 noise)

what size is the tank??

did i mention a new fiat panda diesel is 6k

ah 8k that buys you the new fiat idea (diesel)

as a rule of thumb 10 miles to the litre = 45 miles to the gallon

so if you are getting 500 miles to a tank and its 50 litres thats 45mpg

if its a 40 litre tank about 57 mpg (doing maths in my head now) and to be getting 70 odd you would need a 30 litre tank......

i would guess you have a...... er hang on scrub that looked it up you have a 43 litre tank.....so i would guess about 52 to the gallon.....

well you are running air con but my clio thrashed everywhere does 45 and driven slightly more gently 50...... they dont seem to be getting the dramatic improvements they are promising

hey wow fiestas have got cheap as well
