does anyone know how much this costs? is it something a lot of companies can do?

What you'd pay for machining will probably go a long way towards some new ones. Cost around £25 each.

I agree with JohnD.

I would fit new drums.

I would only skim a car drum if for instance you had a classic car, and there was no alternative to buying new, I.E. that they do not make them any more.

Also skimming is done on commercial vehicles, where the drum can be many more times more expensive than a car one, and then it's economically worthwhile.

camper van : 40 years old :evil:

but not really valuable enough to warrant £40 per drum or more, either skimming or buying

I guess good second hand ones it will have to be, hard to find..

ok, have found a local company that thinks £20 ish per Drum.. sounds good enough :)
