I wouldn't mind a diesel XM. Has anyone got any details? MPG etc.

Can't see much on the web these days.

Thanks.

Never had an XM but they come with 2.5 or 2.1 engines. I ran a Xantia with the 2.1 engine which on average gave me 42mpg.

Great cars - but get one while you can - they're disappearing fast, with people throwing them away for stupid things like flat spheres!

Demag, they are indeed great cars and even the 2.5 estate, I have one of those, returns a reliable 40 mpg and on longer runs it can return 43 on the motorway cruising at a steady 70 on cruise control.
The car is fairly easy to use but even as an engineer myself I confess that it goes into a reliable indy for belt changes. There are four of them on a 2.5 - two each end.
The biggest weakness of the later ones are the radiators but it is very easy to remove the whole of the front end for working on.
Mine has done 130k and still goes like a train. Quicker than the Xantia 1.9td we have by a good margin and holds the road wonderfully. I have an R reg VSX and has the hydractive 2. Paid a lot for it but equally this has paid dividends in the meantime and fewer and fewer 2.5 estates are coming up for sale.
The 2.1 in auto exclusive form with all the bits on looks like fun and not expensive.
Our R reg Xantia est we have had since brand new and we have them because we cannot find anything to match their comfort, economy and carrying capacity.
Just what do you replace a Xantia or XM Estate with?
Cheers Robin

I had a 2.5TD exclusive and it returned a regular 40+mpg on average. It had enough grunt to leave the beemers for dust and their owners looking shocked at the huge, dirty, thunderbird 2 styled monstrosity wafting past or away from them. Certainly the most comfy car I've had.

A lot of info here: http://www.club-xm.com/forum2/index.php
including a useful section on how to run your car on cooking oil!!

I replaced mine with an LPG converted Lexus GS300, the other half has got an Activa
XM 2.5TD Exclusive - now deceased :(
Hand-me-down Xantia TD SX (killed)
Wife - 2000 Activa (sold)
2000 Xantia 1.8 16v DualFuel (killed/sold)
Current - '99 S2 Activa +Leather+winter pack
