Spotted on ebay, but it seems to be older than the vendor states

Looks a nice motor, but it looks like a pre face lift.

I saw one before - a mk 1 Xantia in low spec and much later than the mk1/mk2 change over. I think they maybe cars from places like Malta, where a very basic MK1 Xantia continued to be sold alonside the MK2.

Why not ask him for the ORGA number?

It's probably been sat at the back of a warehouse somewhere for a few years or imported from somewhere.

Given the mileage, its most likely an ex fleet or lease car, where a company buyer probably bought loads of them in a block and specified them like that.

A bit like the Austin Maestro pick-up trucks Redbridge council used to use-not a standard production model but they bought loads so could ask for what they wanted!!

You're right - something doesn't gell - especially taking into account the info gleaned by Ross_K [where does this info drop out from Ross?]

It is a bit weird. Looks like someone's passed a recent car's identity onto an older recipient - scrap yard thuggery!?

As it's a non turbo, and a lowish spec one at that, it may have spent it's first 5 years sitting untouched [forgotten?] in a showroom/car pound/old airstrip waiting to be given away in desperation for no money. By then the Xantia would be facing redundancy with the oncoming C5!!

Let's face it, if you were going to 'ring' a car with a new identity you wouldn't make it SO BLATANTLY NOT RIGHT even to a casual car observer - and making this effort for an SD, even with AC!!

Any import car will be given an age related UK reg even if the registration document says it's date of registration is actually 1999; the reg doc will still show date of manufacture as 1994 etc...

I don't think I'd contemplate it myself - ask yourself why it's going through ebay!!

Dodgy?
 :?:

The info is out there - just have to know where to look 8)

http://www.rac.co.uk/web/carbuying/vehicle_data_search/

and

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/

click on 'Vehicle Enquiry' on the left and then click 'next'

If you fancy a bid on it you can get a HPI check (which I'd say would make interesting reading) through eBay for 6 or 7 quid beforehand..

Dunno though, a Mk1 Xantia with 157000 miles and a reserve price in excess of £500. Would you honestly bother with it, specially after looking at his feedback?

I've seen a few MK1 Xantia's advertised on a 'V' plate although IIRC they were all V6 models.

The "Citroen Centre" had a green V6 for sale for ages, which didn't surprise me as it was priced as a 'V' reg rather than as the MK1 P/R reg from when it was built

Yep, read his feedback, not exactly glowing is it. Shows how deceiving it can be when you read the % bit. Not really interested in the car, i was looking for a HDI version, but clicked on this one due to its alledged age. Would it be possible that it is a mk2 version thats had a bump, and paneled with mk1 bits? there again the interior looks different to my own mk2 version. Whatever it is, it's not worth the 500 quid it starting at, god knows what the reserve is.

I thought a V reg Xantia would have a trasnponder key immobiliser & not the keypad fitted

Something is fishy about this car, Its either sat around for ages or is a ringer.

There was a late model mk1 Xantia 1.8 on ebay some time ago.

I seem to remember it being either a V or W reg and was clearly a Mk1 with keypad immobiliser.

Surely the dealers didnt have any left after that length of time??? If they still sold the mk1 Xantia in parts of europe then perhaps it was a personal import.

I can see why there were some later model Xantia V6's around as these weren't exactly hot sellers.

This is surprisingly common, it seems a whole batch of mk1 Xantias were registered over a year after the mk1 was officially discontinued. I've seen quite a few of them, almost always registered in '99 on V plates, but I've never been able to find out why this happened.

There are even one or two mk1's with HDi engines about - a combination that shouldn't exist in theory!

Not quite.

It has a turbo, but no intercooler. It's the SDi model, which has a light pressure turbo to reduce emissions. 75bhp from a 1905cc. If you look at the underbonnet photo, you can see the pipe emerge from the turbo, and go straight to the intake manifold.
This is not a signature.

Spotted a '99 Mk1 TurboD here in Ireland today, so maybe there are more floating around than we thought :)
