tells me it's rubbish. No speed camera in the UK would currently be set to less than 10% +2 over the speed limit.

Yet another rumour spread by Transport2000, Brake, or one of the other lunatic fringe groups. I'm pretty certain they do it because they know they only need a small percentage to believe it to cause a rolling roadblock effect.

Where the variable speed limit is in force it will be backed up by cameras, they won't need anything like 276 of them and it will enforce 10% +2 or higher.

Much as it has been on the M25 for some years.

The Gatso cameras have been in place on the M42 for some time in the newly-managed areas. Whether Gatsos can be adjusted on the fly for different limits, I don't know!

The bit about CCTV is just scaremongering. SPECS is the only currently approved system for speed traps. The CCTV is just regular stuff, as on most motorways.

The 'specs' enforcement camera's have been in use at roadworks on the North bound side of the M42 after J10 at roadworks for some weeks untill recently. Just to be different...I think they are better than the Gatso type because you don't get the 'slam on the brakes' at the camera scenario and anyway... how do you get drivers to stick to the variable limits without such measures, which have been proved to work elsewhere.
