Please forgive me for I have sinned...

I've been looking around for another cheaper to run car so I can get the Goodwood sorted & get it out of the salt & winter crap & the other half can have her own wheels.

So I just got a 1992 Ford Escort 1.4 with a years MOT & 6 mth tax for a decent price. Rust-free for a Ford, just a bit round one rear arch. So here's to a trouble free but boring year of driving.

How many miles Alex? I had a 1990 Fiesta 1.4i LX and it seemed like it was ready to give up the ghost when I got rid at 101k. That thing went through CV joints ( I think it was them anyway) like nobodies business. It was black and looked greeat when it was polished up.

Ahh fond memories of that car and its back seat

It's done 84K & is very quiet TBH.
It's had 3 previous owners the first being an old dear who only did about 40K up to 1998 which is where the dealer stamps stop.
Hence the low milage it's pretty clean & has just had a full new exhaust from where it joins the manifold all the way back. Also 5 new tyres Khumo :? . The spare has never touched tarmac but is the same as the other 4.

The only faults I have yet discovered are a spot of rust on the rear arch & fuel filler & the idle is just a touch hesitant for my liking at times. Oh and the clutch travel is a bit too short. But that'll be sorted at the weekend as well as an oil & filter change.

It's a strange special edition "Fanfare" which means gay stickers on the bonnet & down the side. I can't seem to find anything on t'interweb regarding that special edition but Google does come up with a '91 Fiesta Fanfare on eBay a while back. Anyone heard of this?

Ah I can answer this (Ford - my speciality subject) Fanfare is not any kind of special edition/ltd edition as such, its a "Graphics pack" that you could custom the car to give it a individual look when it was brand new. Stupid (IMHO) twa**y decals on the bonnet and down the flanks of the car. Along with Eclaire, Glider and Fun. For some unknown reason, when the cars were registred they would have the graphics pack noted in the V5 e.g - FORD ESCORT 1.4 Glider, instead of say - 1.4 Lx which is probably what your Escort is based on. And some just read 1.4 Lx. Identical speck but with dummy graphics that make the car look like a rubiks cube. Sounds like you have bought a nice one tbh. I like the shape of this Escort (Mk 5), but the 1400cc CVH is not noted for its handling (No ARB). Should prove reliable as there aint much to go wrong. Hope this helps - Alex.

Pretty gay if you ask me but it's a conversation starter if nothing else. :? Think of the salesman trying to get that one past the old dear who bought it new:D

I can't say I've given a second thought to the shape, it's not ugly but the handling is def a bit QE2. My 309 GRD was better in that dept. But hey that's why I've got a Goodwood in the garage.

This one just says Ford Escort on the V5. No mention of trim level. Everything's manual at any rate.

If the graphics p**s you off try a heat gun...........I agree with you though those graphics are a bit suspect  .I think that they literally only sold about 100 of each designation. A waste of time & money if you ask me.
