Milage V price.

Post by Stuart McB »

Been looking at a Xantia as we all know to relace the Mazda. Have looked at a 'T' reg, one owner in misty blue today. All the stamps taxed and tested. It's a 1.8 16valve jobby with a tow bar but..... it's done 108k with a recent cam belt change but the LHM needs changing. It's in good alround nick and drives as you'd expect. Price £900. The other Xantia is an 'X' reg in green same engine with a mere 46K on the clock, next to no service history as yet (due to milage) and is priced at a whopping £2995. Now while the newer Xantia is out of my league, will the milage on the 1.8 affect its service and running life in any way do you think?

I have run a few high milage petrol Xantias and the engines have never given me any problems.

If you give the cheaper one a good service, including changing all fluids etc etc, then it should keep going well for a lot more miles yet :)

I had an early "S" type Jag 3.8 auto 'B' reg (1963) I bought it around 1970 with approx 70k on the clock, it had over 250k on it when I sold it in 1980 ish, and it was still running around several years later at well over 20 years old.. :D And reliability wise cars are made much better now.. (except ECUs lol)

Neglect will kill a car long before mileage does... :(

Planète Citroën forum is running a thread on the reliability of the 1.8 engine.
There's talk of one that's clocked up 401,000 km using LPG:
