COMPETENCE

Post by ACTIVE8 »

Well that's good someone wants to get rid of a 4 X 4, and get something else more sensible, practical, and economical. He wants to get an Xantia. He also states that his wife is scared of the 4 X 4. [:D]
Here's the link:-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 71444&rd=1
It seems too many have bought larger vehicles I.E. 4 X 4's.
With the way they are driven it's also very obvious that they are not capable of driving them.
As motorcyclists are tested for their ability to ride a bike over a certain engine size.
Then the same should apply to the driving of high sided, and heavy vehicles.
Years ago you could drive up to a 7.5 tonne, on a car licence.
This changed due to the accident rate, where drivers had accidents because they were not capable to drive a large vehicle.
In the wrong hands a 4 X 4, and even a people carrier, or Transit sized van can be beyond their ability.
If the drivers that jump into the larger vehicles from their car, where to drive the vehicles appropriately then there would be less risk on the roads.
It's when they speed past you on the motorway, cutting in at the last minute. Drive towards you, and expect another driver to get out of their way. Stick to the centre lane on the motorway, (C.L.O.D.S.) and with their larger size than the car that they use to do it with, cause much more obstruction. This is why for the above reasons, and many more, you end up being frustrated by the selfish, incapable, arrogant, idiot who drives a 4 X 4 like they own the road.
There would be less of them on the road if their capabilities were tested.

4x4s have rotten tyres, a high CofG and poor brakes. They feel like a car from within, though so people drive them that way. So they get hurt. Nature's way of weedingout the stupid, I guess.

Yes, it's a process of natural selection, where the mentally weak follow the "trend" and make a "lifestyle" decision by having one. Which ends up emptying their wallet/purse, and in the end can kill them!

Huraah! some one has seen the light of day and got shut of their 4X4. They should come with a warning on them, "ONLY PURCHASE IF YOU INTEND TO GO OFF ROAD MORE THAN ONCE A YEAR, AND WE DON'T MEAN PARKING OUT SIDE LITTLE JULIANS PREP SCHOOL ON THE KERB"
Don't get me wrong guys, I've had them aswell when living on a building site, towing across country fields that kind of thing. BMW, Porche should be ashamed of them selves for promoting a life stlye that not only hurts the wallet but also endangers other road users.

What annoys me is that they never put two tyres on the dirt if you meet them on a narrow lane. Not that I mind when I'm in the 2cv! My Deuche is cheaper to run and almost as capable off road (muddy uphill sections best avoided - that is when you really do need 4x4).
The safety arguement for 4x4s is a load of tosh too. Top Gear kindly pointed out that in a crash, you are better off in a Ford Fiesta than a Freelander. Both are safer than a 2cv though...

Out here we reckon they have two choices:
1:- Learn to drive properly
or
2:- Buy a t0$$er tank.
Do these clown over your way deck them out like entrants in a "Demolition Derby" too?
When you've got some bimbo bearing down on you in one looking like this (or worse) and you see she's in the process of looking towards the back seat dishing out corporal punishment on a couple of ankle biters in the back seat, it makes you feel real secure if there's a red light or a stop sign coming up in front.

This is what we get all the time.
Where I am, it would be safe to say at least 50% are these things and we have one of the highest road death rates in the Country, but the pollies won't do anything while they're making a fast quid out of them.

At least things have calmed down a little with bull bars. You used to see them on Escort and Transit vans which was just ridiculous. At least on a 4x4 there's a chance that someone one day just might actually drive into a big rock while off roading and be glad of it.
That said, I have a rear adventure bar on the back of my 2cv. I'm sorry to say it actually does help when you are pushing it! Only when I'm stuck off road though I hasten to add. My girlfriend needs a nice helpful bar to push on!!
