I've recently discovered a liking for another method of transportation and now do this regularly on a Friday...

Me, yesterday ;)

I really do love it :-D

This coming Friday I'm doing a kayak triathlon to raise a bit of money for our local hospice. A 1.5 mile paddle around a course set out on the lake, a 3 mile run around the lake and then a swim across the lake!

Now going out for a 3 mile training run...

Like that image Jim, should be up on "Picture of the Day" :-D , not hiding away in the members only section!

Got to learn to do that soon Mike ;)

Neil, happy to post that pic in the Pictures of the Day thread. Got a lovely pic of a Rover P5B I spotted in Somerset yesterday to post too....

Looks like fun Jim - I like messing about it boats, thinking about joing the sailing club at St Mary's Loch next year (see the thread about the local AA box!). I used to be able to eskimo roll about 20 years ago, probably couldn't do it now though - interestingly it's all about technique and not much about raw power. The instructions are all about waving the paddle about over your head, which is sort of what happens, but you've got to remember you're working upside down - just like working underneath a car really!! Tip though from your pic....get a spray deck before you try it

Excellent :D Do Richard, it is good fun and I have found I really enjoy watching the lake wildlife from the kayak... Saw a lovely heron on Friday evening. It was magical :D

Yes! Until I've been properly trained I'm recommended not to have one yet in case I capsize and can't release it...

I'll be going on a training course as soon as I can but for now I get over the problem by wearing my full wetsuit....

Keeps me warm too...

If you need to travel across the water in a hurry you could always try out one of these;

James, that's mad!

I don't think such a device would be very welcome on our lake and it would scare the wildlife a bit, not to mention innocent walkers and patrons of the pub who enjoy sitting and eating by the lakeside!

A VERY long time (I was only about 4 years old) back my Mum won a bet, when she canoed between the two Brighton piers on (IIRC) Christmas Day. It was somewhat choppy, but she made the trip OK.

Good for her James :D

Like me, I was out on my bike on Christmas day last year riding along a deserted but normally insanely busy dual carriageway!

Seems my Activa MOT is about to expire and I was only reminded about it via a Facebook memory from this time last year where I was discussing the last MOT..

Although I'm very busy with a non-automotive project at the moment - a big revamp of my garden - I'll be going over her this weekend with a fine-toothed comb and submitting her for a test next week... All being well [-o<

Then she'll be going on SORN as soon as the insurance expires next month for a winter rest. She'll not then see the road again until just before the 2017 X Rally...

I will maintain basic insurance cover on her. I believe one can obtain 'laid-up' insurance to cover such circumstances...

That's a problem. Unless I can shrink my Activa to the size of a Matchbox toy

It might be worth looking into a secure storage company. Some of them do have lockups large enough to store cars. I know that Safe Storage (in Reading) did have cars in storage.

I'm half-way through checking my Activa over for an MOT but yesterday the work was interrupted to take part in a mini-triathlon involving a 3 mile run around the lake, a kayak paddle from one end of the lake to the other (around 1.5 miles) and an open-water swim across a narrow bit of the lake... I cycled to the lake and back (around 18 miles in all) so in effect it was a quadathlon!

The kayak paddle was done in failing light and the swim in almost total darkness! The swim was an experience indeed but very much enjoyed.

I got this, very proud of it :D I plan to do some proper triathlons next year.

Image

Later this morning I'll resume my Activa work. So far, no issues found but today will be the biggie where I check over the suspension, steering and braking bits...

I'll also be washing her as she's again looking very dusty and spidery

I will report back.
