Now I know why it was so cheap :-D

The new one I believe has a 1.2 engine with emissions below 99 whatsits so therefore VED free.

He already has a red Citroen (the Activa), a blue one (the V6), but he is getting rid of a silver one (the XM), so I would guess that he likes those colours and wants to keep continuity.

Nope, sorry to blow your lovely assessment of my colour choices apart James. It was what was available at the price :) Makes a change from a red one anyway..

Just having breakfast and then I'm off to replace an Activa wheel bearing. Sod the weather  I want to drive my Activa!

I cannot for the life of me imagine Jim buying a car because of its colour, even a brand new one unless he asked "What's the cheapest colour? "

I know Jim's not a tight-arse but I imagine what colour of C1 he ended up with probably wasn't particularly high on his list of important features.

Enjoy your day Jim. I enjoyed fixing the DRK yesterday. Gave me some confidence back that I haven't lost all my mechanical abilities! I'll probably finally fit the new fuel pump I have for it today.

Funny thing is I would say 80% of the C1's I see up this way are red, and most of them 5 door as well. And there are a lot of C1's around now that I'm keeping an eye out for them - they're everywhere.

Quite a lot more than there are of Peugeot 107's and far more than Toyota Aygo's. For whatever reason (price?) most people go with the Citroen version of this platform...

Toyotas, like Hondas are thought of as an old farts car, apart from the MR2.

Citroens or Pugs aren't. I suspect that's one big reason you see more.

I expect the 4 figure price difference is the actual big reason.
Also pug are pushing their just add fuel scheme still which jacks up the monthly price and on such a car people aren't to bothered about those bits being included.

You're right Mike :-D The colour wasn't important at all... Silver is not common in a C1. Had I had unlimited choice I'd have had either the metallic blue or the yellow. Yellow would have been the slight preference over blue...

Torrential rain has stopped play on the Activa. New bearing has been pressed into the hub and just waiting for the weather to clear so I can refit to the car and reassemble,

The old bearing was very rough indeed.

I might now be able to enjoy the car for a while without problems. Who knows

The Activa is finally fixed and silent :D Job went Ok but had to take a break of a couple of hours for a torrential rain storm to pass

It was the nearside bearing and as soon as I had the hub off I could feel it as rough as anything.

Clearly the original bearing as it took 11 tons in the press to get it moving. It also highlighted how badly distorted my press is now from far too many abuses when pressing out very well rusted-in wheel bearings in both XMs and Xantias. The moveable press bed is now as bent as a nine-bob note and it makes the job of pressing new bearings in nice and square a bit tricky.

I must see if Clark do spare parts for their 10 ton presses. From that statement it's clear why it's bent now - a 10 ton press being used at 11 and 12 tons on regular occasions!

Still, no worries, the Activa is now lovely and quiet again and touch-wood, running lovely.

I wonder how long it'll be before she'll have her next toy throwing session? The book is open

Tomorrow I shall fit the new leak-back harness pipe onto the V6 and then all being well I'll have two good Xantias again 8-)

Hopefully next week we'll see the strut tops back from KingAS and we can get the XMs back in action...
