Yes, that's the problem. Android is about as friendly as a cornered rat

Dolphin updated earlier today (to version 11.5.15) and it appears that this problem has now been resolved...for now anyway...on my phone anyway.
Figured it was worth updating this here as it's one of the more popular mobile browsers I believe so I doubt I'm the only one who has had this issue.
Nice not to have to split browsing between two browsers any more!

Thanks for letting us know.
Re: Phone won't stay logged in...
Wanted to say that I'm still seeing this issue, and further testing suggests it is not a problem with my phone, but rather with the links that the forum sends in emails, as I also get the same problem if I click on the thread link from an email notification on a Desktop browser. Here is an example of an exact link sent to me in an email notification that triggers a login prompt:
https://frenchcarforum.com/forum/viewto ... ead#unread
If I am logged into gmail in Chrome and then in another tab I am already logged into the forum, when I click the link from the email, which then opens in another tab in the same browser I am taken to the Login page. Every time. Despite the fact that my browser must already have a session cookie because I'm already logged into the site in another tab. This also applies if I manually paste the above URL into a new tab - I always go to the login screen.
Interestingly if I remove &e=1 from the URL I am taken directly to the thread without being asked to log in again - what does &e=1 signify ?
Even more strangely some email links work OK even with &e=1. For example here is another one which does work that was emailed to me for another thread:
https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... ead#unread
So as far as I can see this problem is nothing to do with phones, but something wrong with some of the links that are emailed out - because I normally only ever click on the email notification links on my phone, that's where I've been getting prompted to log in, but when I try it I see the same problem on a desktop PC.
Hopefully that helps pin down this frustrating problem...

I saw it yesterday too on just one instance of Firefox and one of my laptops... My other PC running the same flavour of Linux and Firefox was fine...
Bizarre...

What happens if people click the first link I provided ? Do you also see a login screen ? Definitely a forum problem. It can't be the fault of both Safari on an iPhone and Chrome on a Windows PC...

Yep - I was already logged in and asked to log in again.Mandrake wrote:What happens if people click the first link I provided ? Do you also see a login screen ? Definitely a forum problem. It can't be the fault of both Safari on an iPhone and Chrome on a Windows PC...
Have to say I never follow email links so would never have been aware of this glitch.

Re: Phone won't stay logged in...
I have adjusted some server settings which seem to fix the issue with notification links. I will wait to see if there are any side-effects.
It has probably not changed the behaviour of some browsers not staying logged-in.

Re: Phone won't stay logged in...
After a few months of behaving itself, this has started happening again as of Saturday afternoon.
Browser was due an update at the time, but that has now been done, and I've cleared the cache/cookies to no avail.
I did note that on the same day I had to log back in on my desktop as well, though that did stay logged in. Didn't think too much about that as I hadn't used it to access the forum in several months most likely.

Re: Phone won't stay logged in...
I suspect that this problem is some interaction between the browser that you use and the forum software.
I did look into something similar a few months ago and it seemed to be the the forum was ignoring the cookie sent by the browser, and using instead an old expired cookie that was somehow stuck in the cache. I can't continue that investigation as I have no way to reproduce the problem for testing.
I have cleared the server session cache, which will have logged-out all users, let me know if your phone can log-in and stay logged-in now.
The forum software is getting updated to a new major version next Monday, I don't think that there is much else that I can do before then.

Re: Phone won't stay logged in...
Thanks for taking the time to look into it. So far it seems to be behaving today.
I'll report back on whether that remains the case. Definitely doesn't seem worth investigating any further time into with the upgrade so close down the road though.
