cheapest recharge?

Post by Harlequin »

Im after a cheap top up for my aircon...it blows cool but not icy cold. Does anyone know where is good and cost effective or what about those home kits?

Look around for offers from the likes of quik fit and such. Try to find one that offers a no improvement no pay guarantee. Such places aren't ideal if you've got problems but the recharges are as cheap as you can get. Also if the system leaks under a vacuum test they won't try to fill it and shouldn't charge you.

What car is it? I've a PDF file here that covers Xantia XM and Synergie aircon pressures/temperatures. It also covers loads of other stuff, brakes, engines etc. (It's 310 pages!) If you want a copy then then post here and we'll work out a way via admins to get you one.

O K
Here’s some data.
Checking is done with the engine at 2500rpm, fan on full speed and ventilation set for air to foot and dash vents. All doors and windows closed, flap set to fresh air, not recirculation.

Pressures

High pressure
Ambient temperature 15/20 degrees c 13 bar +/- 3 bar.
Ambient temperature 25 degrees c 16 bar +/- 3 bar.

Low pressure

Ambient temperature 15/20 degrees c 1,8 bar +/- 0,3 bar.
Ambient temperature 25 degrees c 2,5 bar +/- 0,3 bar.

Temperatures (measured at dash central vents)

Ambient temperature 15/20 degrees c vent temperature 8 degrees c +/- 3 Note set fan speed to 2 at this ambient.
Ambient temperature 25 degrees c vent temperature 12 degrees c +/- 3

You say that are seeing a pressure of 35 psi on a hot day. That’s 2,4 bar. It seems about right.
The temperatures are easier to check.
That's about all I have on the temperatures and pressures. Ask if you need more information, I'll try to help.
