C4 Picasso transmission and clutch

Post by decoban »

Hi guys.

I'm about to change the flywheel (and clutch ecc.) on my C4 grand Picasso from 2010 with egs. (half automatic transmission)
My diagnostic tool can't handle that operation and need to find one that does. What tool and software should i use for this operation? :)

regards Klaus

Hi Klaus, welcome to the Forum.

Not sure I have any good news for you. This is the second enquiry today regarding diagnostics of the EGS system. Even the Lexia clones that many of us use have an issue reading the ECU of EGS-based vehicles from some members' experiences. One of our popular Lexia suppliers in the UK (Easydiagnostics) has indicated that the VCIs won't communicate with the gearbox ECU on models equipped with these systems. I personally don't have any other recommendations of compatible diagnostic systems that have the recalibration procedure for the EGS system.

Thank you for your reply. I don't like the sound of that to be honest :S So only an original will fix the problem? Guess i have to change it myself and get it to the shop for reworking the gear/clutch?

The main dealer will be able to recalibrate it for you, but do be aware that these are highly sensitive systems.

Whatever you do, make sure you use the correct oil - a member had a very expensive nightmare as detailed on this thread:

I've got an early EasyDiagnostics Lexia clone that does communicate with C4 EGS gearboxes as I've used it on one of the member's cars on here, so it may be a bit more random as to whether you can get one that does work :?

Good to know Bobbns - it's very hit and miss, so worth mentioning that it is a bit of a gamble. A lot will depend on having a half decent laptop to start with, a full chip revision 'C' Lexia, the appropriate software revision of Diagbox (latest isn't always the best) and a tonne of patience. :)

Sounds good Bobins. Do you have some data of what Lexia clone and software you're running? I have a highend laptop to play with and since it's never a bad thing to have some kind of diagnostic tools for French cars, I think i'll try getting my hands on one of those Lexia clones. :D

Thanks!

Mine was just an early one of the ones that Easydiagnostics sold. I've owned it 4 or 5(?) years now, maybe more. I'm just running standard Diagbox - nothing bang up to date, it's just the most recent version that does what I need it to do, but not so recent as it's lost functionality from PSA removing certain features. Might be 7.57 - any ideas off the top of your head, Marc (GiveMeABreak)?
It'd very much be pot-luck if you found one that worked with your gearbox. I'd assume that most of the clones being sold have gone through many evolutions over the years and the components used have been cut to the bone - hence many don't have full functionality.

Only comment I would make is that despite the location supposedly being in France the seller's address is China.

Agreed but if there's any kind of problem then you would have to deal with the company at a distance and they would be outside of the EU and maybe not subject to EU regulations.

As it's Ebay they might be able to help if necessary - they were able to do so for me when I bought a memory card from a company in Belgium which turned out to be in PRC. The card was fake and I got a full discretionary refund from Ebay (not the seller).

The clone I bought was from a seller called "syllablegrow" , arrived quickly and works fine so far, if you are going to gamble on a Chinese one. Alternatively where are you located? (Can't see if it's on your profile as am on iPod at the mo) maybe someone on here could try their kit and see what it says. I know I'd be happy to do so if you're nearby although I didn't buy a full chip one so doubt it'd work?
