Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

The easiesy and most common fault producing this problem is that the hose communicating boost pressure to the additional fuel device on the injection pump fails, so the turbo spins and pumps as its intended to and nothing happens as there is no more fuel.

could still be the wheel bearing. if it has got hot enough you will find that the ball bearings inside will in fact become oval rather than round. it sounds like a bearing to me.

Hi, a couple of passing thoughts to consider. If you have the footbrake on it can stop or slow the way the rear lifts because the wheels need to rotate slightly as the rear rises. Don't think the ECU will be remapped as such. If the lambda sensor fails the ECU may well have a default map which it switches to in the case of a sensor failure, a kind of get you home mode. If the bolt is in the right way round and its a self adjusting cable you can crack this job in 1/2 hour.
If you have to go sawing at the bolt and its a manual cable then you are looking at a good bit more, if a manual cable, take note how the pedal spring is fitted and in which direction it pushes the pedal, downwards.

Right hand thread. Get the engine hot first to soften the locking compound on the bolt, then get a BIG extension bar or pipe, support the drive end of the breaker bar so that you are turning the bolt and not trying to force the socket off, and swing away on the end of the bar... The removeable hook types are at least double up in retail price (in DK), and only leaves a mounting flange/bracket low behind the rear bumper.
Types I've seen here in DK uses a sturdy lockpin, with a built in antitheft key-lock, and a safety clip. On modern cars it almost certainly means a minor cut out is needed in lowest part of the bumper...

I think the heater on the Zx is an air blender and is controlled by flaps rather than by a water valve. Thats why the temperature control works smoothly and has an even resistance throught its travel. Surplus hot air is ducted out (or should be).

I'd get a second opinion from a local Cit specialist, as most (not all, I grant) main dealers are not too accurate with their prognosis. Sounds like you are talking about the rocker/cam box of which could seep oil, try tightening it down but be carefull only to specified torques, failing that a new gasket.

They are easy to replace if you have access to an 'air chisel' to pop them out (did mine recently). If you attempt to smash the old bushes out with a hammer you may damage the metal arm itself. Depending on the age of the existing arm you may do well to replace the entire unit as it's the case that when one bush wears, the other will not...

I expect that the leak is between the base of the sphere and its mount in which case if the sphere is still good then a new square rubber seal may do the job. I have been provided with 'O' rings when I bought some re-gassed spheres (a waste of money - more expensive and only lasted a year) but to be fair the 'O' rings didn't leak.

I have been sold 400 cc GTI spec spheres for my old TZD too but my newer TZD had larger ones, very comfy but I prefer the stiffer ride from 400s, perhaps its an estate car thing (I have a good pair of larger ones spare if needed)

N45388 looks suitable but the 400cc GTI sphere is listed by GSF as being right.

Well N45372 is definately the correct number for an anti sink sphere, maybe the box has been wrongly labelled.
Can you tell me what writing is on the Sphere itself? Also, the antisink sphere has the extra threaded bit in the middle (for the hydraulic pipe) and a normal sphere will not have this, just the normal large thread.

The later Xantia type PLIP sender units I dont believe is the same type as the earlier units used in BX/CX. You may try if they appear the same :
The later Xantia PLIP's are communicating with the receiver, which means you need a certain procedure after battery change, to make your Xantia receive the PLIP signals again.

One of my plips works intermittiantly, and i think the micro switches have gone, but need some direction as to what components are used.
The other plip the LEd has snapped off and I want to replace it, have tried an LEd I had but it doesnt work.

White smoke - not being water - from a TD, is liky to be the turbo hot side seal leaking engine oil, especially if a greasy fat spot builds up under/rear to the exhaust pipe. Diesel fuel would evapourate.
As she runs like a dog, I'm with you it's fuel.
First suspect is certainly glo's or the timer, next in line is pump timing.

On my 97 Xantia it is in the black box behind the O/S headlight which also contains the suspension ECU. But on either a 94 TD VSX or a 98 2.0 turbo VSX, I can't recall which one, it was basically 'loose' behind the N/S headlight. Yes it is almost certainly the spheres and best of all it most certainly a DIY job. A quick search on the forum will produce a large number of suggestions on doing what is a simple and rewarding job.

Should be fairly easy to fix, it sounds like the Flasher Unit (indicator relay) has failed, only a few pounds for this part.
can't remember where its actually located on a Xantia (someone else will know) but its a grey 3 pin relay when you do find it!

Neil,
Have you tried Edwards at Billericay, A5 spares (?) near Milton Keynes, also posting on the yahoogroups XM list. Also Paul Johnson at XM-centre.com? There is a chap called Willie Johnston in Eire who comes up with lots of odd spares who is on the XM list. He is a Citroen indie.

Since it has the keypad I assume it's an IR plip.
The reciever for the plip is in the headlining just in front of the sunroof. The inside of the bubble can get dirty and cause problems but it is more likely that water has got onto the reciever.

My remote locking is dead.
I have 2 transmitter neither of which work (yes I have changed the bateries). The car has had its keypad disconnected and the ignition switch is not the original.
Does anyone have any bright ideas as to why the remote locking no longer works. The doors locks OK.

There is a sight glass on the top of the air-con dryer bottle (its in the front drivers side corner of the car next to the radiator header tank / washer bottle / ecu etc). With the aircon running, there should be a clear stream of liquid running past this glass, with no-air bubbles in it. Any air bubbles generally indicates that your system is...

I think its on the top of the bellhousing, looks like a tdc sensor on a petrol model? Possibly directly under the vacunm pump at the end of the cam, the electrical connector was gummed up on mine, was fine after I cleaned it up, AT least I think it was for the tacho My revs needle sort of paused when the car was revved.

You should look in the engine bay near the shock absorber mounts, there should be a 4 digit number. That number should indicate you which model is you car.

Hi i have just replaced the 4 corner spheres on my early 1993 1.9TD VSX massive improvement however when you stop the engine the front end drops an inch or so suddenly then stops its almost like a hop that it does. The accumulator seems fine one tick about every minute could it be the centre sphere or maybe one of the valves anyone got a clue?...

What model are you looking at?. I found the lack of air bag didn't really bother me on my 93 ZX Td but it's a frame of mind. Electric windows are a must though so if it ain't got them why bother.

It all depends on the servosteering bits fitted according to modelyear.
Pre '95 models has the BX type system with a single port hydpump (1 single rigid steel pipe). These models uses a modified PR with an extra pipeport (3 rigid pipes in all), meaning you can use pre '95 XM/BX and the very first Xantia models PR's with this extra...

The estate rear seat is different, they have a three point seat belt in the centre. I'm not entirely sure but I don't think that they are interchangeable.

What you need is a hydraulic diagram at rear of car.
The HC schematic only shows the main function of the pipe ports - not what anything else is/may be connected.
The pipe that sits alone exactly mid to the HC body, no other neighbour pipes next to, is the suspension port of the HC.
This pipe carries the suspension pressure.

I think that I can honestly say that there are no reports of these engines just blowing up on this board. there are a few cases of damage when the cambelt snaps etc, and also cylinder head gaskets and cracked heads on 1,7 BX TD's but thats about it for mechanical problems.
