Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Dave,
Diesels are not crammed with elaborate electronics (that can go wrong) to control the engine - like petrol engines.
A very common problem known from ages with diesels having their own mind on engine rpm - is the dreaded engine oil burning problem.
Especially when engine is hot, the heavier engine oil is easily considered - and combusted - as...

Hi Frank, normal driving position is the lower of the two centre marks (the thickest of the two white lines) so if its bouncy at this position something is wrong.
If the ride is improved by raising the lever to the intermediate setting then its probably the ride height that needs adjusting, ordinarily, moving the lever to this position would make...

Rough r/ hub operation = failing bearings = new hub assy.
Problem here is to remove the hub bearing inner race from stub axle.
Leaking f/ susp strut = either return hose leak (general rot) or the O-rings inside top sphere mount. Never seen a strut leaking itself, but you never know. Try meticulous trace any greasy mess to find the leak.

My Xantia failed its MOT today, for the following:
N/S/R Hub Rough in operation
O/S/F Suspension Leg Leaking
Rear Height Adjuster Leaking
Any idea on what could be wrong with the last two, and whats involved in fixing these 3 problems?
Annoying thing is the Height Corrector was replaced 18 months ago - the new one has done only about 10-12k!

I've had this fault on a 97 TD. It was diagnosed as a fault in the Bitron box which controls the fans,certainly in cars with air con.
There are plenty of threads covering this unit on the forum. Do a search for Bitron. The stop light and the fans are part of one problem where the Bitron box thinks the temperature is too high.

hi,
in my old Aura TD, when i was fitting my alarm system behind the glove box the heater motor was very easy to get at. take the glove box out and you should be able to get at it from there

Hi csk,
- not yet seen one on an AX, but the BX (carb'ed engines) all share the same sender unit over the various engine models.
The sender unit would match the depth of the fuel tank, which I believe is the same over the AX model range.

Try a google search. However, it's unlikely that you'll get the drop links off without some attention from a hacksaw or angle grinder, so I would just replace them anyway - the drop links are <£20, and a new trackrod <£15.

It sounds like it is in the right spot to me. Are you sure it's not the clutch that has come up?
As far as I know there is no adjustment for the brake pedal.
What does your son usually drive?

The FDV is a flat squarish metal block with four hydraulic pipes (model larger) bolted to the front of the gearbox NEAR the accumulator. I havn't had to remove the matrix display on my XM yet, sorry!

Buy, steal, or download Haynes Xantia book of lies - most of what's said about the brakes i almost true. If you can't get the disc to separate from the hub:
Jack up and support the offending front wheel FIRMLY on axel stands.
Remove the wheel, undo the securing screw(s) between disc and hub, start the engine and engage a low gear. The disc will...

On the early models the alarm could be deactivated the switch is under the bonnet, near the windscreen on the nearside (UK spec). You need the ignition key to turn it.

You did in fact replace the air filter ?
A diesel can not be adjusted by common means, so you may revert to a diesel specialist (not Citroen) for a tune up on the Roto pump timing.
Also it's wellknown that a good long trash run with the car, seems to clean the engine. Any injection/diesel cleaner additive to the fuel usually also makes small...

Aaaaghhhh, the trusty visa 1.7 diesel failed its MOT on emissions today. Was at 3.93 and supposed to be lower than 2.5, how do i cure that? Any adjustments that can be mate? Its got the roto diesel fuel pump on it.

- first off : The LHM hydraulic fluid is made to Citroen spec, no matter maker or brand. Does not have to be Total brand. No problem to use any brand LHM fluid you can get. It's like engine oils available in a huge range of good brands.

Hi Rob,
- the coiled pipe runs to the safety valve (on car's left most side), with coils located just to the front of the subframe. Safety valve feed pipe.
The other pipe (right most towards engine) have a single coil near or around the accu sphere, and runs to the servo steering pinion valve. Servo (pinion valve) feed pipe.

Attempted to fit Activa spheres front and rear last weekend but had trouble with the front one.
Amtex part looks exactly like all other spheres, so removed the old one in the usual way; attached band wrench and unscrewed it.
Unfortunately,the front Activa sphere is different: a fluid pipe screws into the top of it, but you wouldn't guess looking...

You could try your nearest local air-con specialist; there are a lot of these around now that air-con is more or less a standard fitment.
They may have something suitable, as a lot of them also do aftermarket conversions and will probably have a generic version- I seem to remember an article in car mechanics some time back where a kit was fitted...

The dreamspec BX project just came off the rails. I cannot obtain an aircon condenser from GSF and the nearest supplier is quoting £300+.
This with the cost of seals, drier etc. and the amount of work necessary to do the job suggests that the overall cost and aggravation would not be worth the candle.
Should I:
Pay up?
Give up and buy a Xantia?...

I think the 16V uses the same 'box as the TD in which case you have broken the metallastic bush on the end of the upper, long link onto the back of the box. If you look down the back of the gearbox it will be obvious. Cheap apparently from Citroen, but I tried to disengage the one on my car so I could take the mechanism out and gave up. One guy...

Has anyone come accross a problem with a ZX 16v gear linkage.
I was being a bit brisk through the gears this morning round a round about and now changing gear is like stiring a bucket of spare engine parts. It's useable and there doesn't seem to be any complaints or noises from the gearbox itself once in gear.

Anyone had this before? Both the headlights go out completly and will come back on in roughly 10 to 15 seconds or straight away if you switch them off and on again. Dashboard lights are unaffected by this. Any ideas would be great chaps. Thank you.

Dependong on age of vehicle -
- the problem could very well be corroded feed wire to the glowplug timer unit, or the the starter cable from ignition key to unit simply has failed, thus the timer never starts.
Could be that simple a large spade conncetor near battery has come apart.
It should be quite simple to follow the heavy gauge wire back from...

I have been told that the pin hole that I've found under the clamp which holds the pipe to the inner wing is a common problem by my local Citroen specialist, and is a bit of a fiddle. N reg too old, thats a load of rubbish, Ive got a N reg Peugeot 405 & the dealer can still get all the information for the radio code, key codes etc of the VIN number.
I was in the Peugeot dealer about 3 weeks ago & he showed me the screen with all my cars details on when we where looking for a trim part.
Sounds like your Citroen dealer cant be...

Hello all,
I'm new to Citroen's. Just got my Xantia on the road. Can anybody confirm what the GSF part number is for the alternator, hydraulic pump and aircon drivebelt lower tensioner pulley is. Its a bearing about 2 3/4 diameter, with an eccentric in the middle. Not the spring loaded one, or the one with an adjuster plate which points downwards...

Heater fan is smelling of burning plastic and runs a little more slowly. I wondered if this could be a sympton of worn electrical brushes, he said hopefully, or is the fan on the way out, a very expensive option I believe.

Sounds a lot like rear wheel balancing. It's cheap to fix, so have it checked out at a local tyre dealer before you go dismantling anything.

The blower issue is probably the ignition switch burnt out - can you bring it to life by wiggling the key? You might be able to put a relay in and get enough power to switch the relay, but if not you'll need to change the ignition switch.
Rear wash wipe could be motor or cable related - you'll need to get to it and put a meter across it to see if...

Bit confused - can you see the cambelt? It should be hidden behind plastic covers.
2 Mounts for the alternator is normal. The alternator belt is tightened by either a manual adjuster (no air con) or an automatic adjuster (air con models). Let us know which you have, and we can point you in the direction of how to adjust it (hmm, but later...

I have fitted a powerbox and get some mild torque steer, If I were you, I would check your tyre wear, tracking and pressures. My car didn't do it before the powerbox was fitted.

Height correctors take a while to work; i doubt that your height corrector is at fault; more likely that your spheres are shot. However...the brake valve could be causing both the sagging (rear brakes take their pressure from the rear suspension) and the rapid ticking (high internal leakage). A few mm of axial play is normal in the shaft.
Is the noise regular and speed related (eg something that is going round) or related to road surface? If the former, then wheel bearings, CV Joints, RH shaft intermediate bearing have got to be candidates, as are a brake pad catching or something. If the latter, then drop links, bottom ball joint...

It shouldn't have any dive at all, no matter how hard you are braking!
Any dive points to the rear brakes not working -have you had any rear brake or suspension work done recently, as dive is what happens if the rear brakes aren't bled through.
My suggestion would be to start by bleeding the rear end and seeing if this makes a difference-jack up,...

You can start by checking if there is power at the fan unit when it goes intermittent - in which case it's the brushes.

P reg 1.9 TD SX Estate: fan works properly most of the time, on Full/Auto or Off as required. But recently it has been going intermittent on me. It does not appear to matter what the cabin temperature is, and it happens with or without the aircon switched on.

Depends which models you are comparing.
1992 BX TZD Estate v's 1995 Xantia SX 1.9TD Hatch. BX seats more comfortable and more supportive, Xantia ride softer and more wallowly . Xantia quieter and more refined for Motorway / fast A road crusing. BX better performance on the road espcially B roads. Given the choice overall I prefered the BX.

My XM 2.1 TD is having its timing belt replaced next week. I have the timing belt kit (belt, tensioner) and a new water pump. Anything else that should be done while it is there ?
Car has done 130,000 miles and as far as I can tell has only had the belt replaced once!

A new clutch cost us around £325 a couple of weeks ago at a small garage
but a main dealer price is over £500
(but now the Xantia is unusable anyway - still trying to get a replacement cylinder head, hopeful of success today; the mechanic is checking on another one.... so far, two heads removed and looked at...

Is this the cigar lighter socket? Have you tried any other accessories in it?
Some people have said that SonyErricson phone chargers don't work well in some cigar lighters and the socket next to the handbrake is better.

Honestly - if you investigate deeper in the design of the rear suspension setup, you can see that rubber bushings would cause too much movement - or float - because of the way the suspension cylinder is connected to the rear arm, and the rear arm pivot bearings also carries the weight of rear chassis.
That would allow too much wander...

Sorry, tried a repair on my ZX TD drivers seat and ended up buying a good second hand one (£10). The foam seems to be part bonded onto the frame after you have fought to get the covers off, which is a real bugger. Easy to get the seat out though only four torx screws and out it came.

When accelerating in my td xant, at about 1500-2500 revs theres a funny growling noise coming from the engine area, it seems to happen in second and third gear just as the turbo kicks in, Can't tell if its the turbo or hyd pump doesnt do it when standing still just when under load.

Past experience with cars in my family (clumsy lot) Has learned me always try a ford dealer, they always have a vast array of trims like that, always good quality, and if its not a perfect match its as close as you'll get it, Also get a little tin of the glue they use to stick it on with, its absolutely brilliant stuff.
