Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Apparently you can get an alloy filler; something like Chemical Metal or JB Weld, I think. Normal spray cans can be used quite well after rubbing down; just apply lots and lots of thin coats to build up the paint, and check for rection between the old paint/brake dust and the new paint (try a primer first?)

Get it done at a Cit Dealer and send them the bill? I wouldn't be happy, but alas (I think) as all they sold was the part, then that's all they're liable for. One can but try for a compensation/goodwill payment . Not too hot on trading standards rules (apart from the 6 month rule for cars with faults...)

I've noticed the same thing, I think most of the basic mechanicals are the same as the Xantia, HDI engine etc, so the big question is how reliable is the build quality? In the past BXs etc always seem to go through a whole lot of bits wearing out at the 100 - 120k mark, Suspension arms, balljoints etc etc and if they were fixed then you could...

AFAIK they are breathers, and shouldn't be connected to anything. They also shouldn't be leaking fluid.... Sounds like one or both of your rear cylinders has failed

Follwing the last post, have pulled two black plastic pipes that were pushed into the rear suspension beam in the centre by the fuel tank mount bolt.

Hi Chris,
you have 2 nylo pipes on each rear suspension rubber bellow.
The pipe towards front of car is simply the vent pipe for the air cavity inside the bellow. This pipe ends blind/open in the rear crossmember tube as a means to prevent dirt getting in to the vented bellow.

I had this on my Xantia a couple of years ago after having the aircon regassed. The problem was caused by the so called aircon engineer putting too much gas into the system causing it over pressurise.
When this happens the compressor tries to overcome the high pressure causing the engine feel like its misfiring. The aircon system has a pressure...

I'd probably go the better the devil you know route - as I've done it once before. Bought a normally-aspirated diesel BX of similar mileage with headgasket problems (silly me), got it fixed once I had the money by a reputable repairer, and drove it another 45/50k miles before the rust got to it.

After a customer(ME) got really stroppy in show room, the garage in question now has my car for inspection and repair.
Including:
New pump.
Gearbox replace/ repair.
New clutch.

Ignition switch comes to mind, unlike 'normal' cars that have high amperage items working by way of a relay, Citroen in their wisdom decided not to use a relay and save 20p per car. Consequently after a while the contacts in the switch wear out/break down hence why it worked when you re-started.

Does it have hydractive suspension? If so, apparently there is an O-ring inside the hydractive block which can fail and cause the suspension to sink - although this is usually rather rapid (like 30s or so!).
More likely is that the anti-sink valve has failed, and is making the car act just like your old non-anti-sink car. I don't know for...

Al,
1) Impossible to tell really until you get the box off. But, if it is biting near the floor, and the operation is by the cable inner, then it is probably a D (push type) clutch rather than the TD pull type (operation by cable outer)
2) New driveshaft oil seals, possibly gear box input shaft seal, bushes for the release arm. You might consider...

Common problem with the tu petrol engines. As long as your cambelt hasnt got any oil on it and there isnt any oil in the coolant or vice versa i wouldnt worry about it. Even if u change the head gasket the leak will be back within a year as I found with my zx 1.4i. So if its running okay leave it alone.

Many small petrol AX's suffer from oil leakage from the head joint close to where the altenator is . Presumably this is leakage from the camshaft pressure oil supply. Well, it's because in the quest to cure the 'misfire' that I am experiencing I have had the thing on a citroen elit analyser which showed up absolutely nothing. I've also swapped the coil pack and no difference.
The only thing the analyser said was intermittent O2 fault and intermittent load fault which the guy said was irrelevant.

I tried to bleed the front brakes on the wife's Zx lastnight.
Put it up on stands and whipped the wheels off.
problem 1: I couldn't find the nearside bleed screw; got out the haynes manual - no use of course.

Well I've spent a few months in the States where it's a very common sight, it doesn't really answer your questions, but as there are so may people doing it over there it can't be that bad for the car. Mind you, over there they're towing full size family saloons on the back of something the size of a Greyhound coach.

Had similar symptoms on both current Xantias especially my 2.1TD. On the first car it was sortly after we had bought it. The radiator had failed and the previous owner had stuck in one of these radweld products to stop the leak, I suspect it kept partially failing and then resealing until it finally gave up all together. The 2.1 was more like...

On being stuck in traffic and quick acceleration the temp. gauge can go up to just under 90. I have to stick the fans on to bring it down. I look where you put the water/coolant and somedays it really drops and other days it stays. Any help appreciated.

Possibility of there being an airlock in the cooling system. Read through the forum and you should find a bit of info on bleeding the air.
May be the head itself. Was it pressure checked when it was skimmed?
If the head is cracked it could be sucking and blowing from/into the water jacket. Any steam in the exhaust? Mayo in the oil filler?

The car was losing a lot of water which resluted in the head gasket apparently going. this also cause a lot of pressure in the cooling system. i had the head skimmed and new gasket and run...

You seem to know what to do, to trace the problem
A cylinder building up pressure, will be noisy. Also the open injector hole will emit resonance noise from exhaust, as the exhaust valve opens.
It's rare to see an injector fail completely, often they simply seep out fuel constantly, but you never know.

Hi James,
you mean the rear suspension feels way too soft ?
- that can not be flat suspension spheres, as then it feels like no spring elements are fitted in the suspension, i.e. it feels rock hard.
If you open the bonnet, with the engine idling, you should hear a clik sound emitted from low down the engine. That would be the hydraulic pressure...

That's the one they are talking about.
It's recommended that you carefully remove the depressurising bolt (12mm) and watch that the ball doesn't drop out & roll away, and slip a brass drift down the hole & against the ball. Give it a couple of short sharp taps to reseat it & then refit the 12mm bolt.

I read somewhere that a problematic FDV or regulator unit can be sorted by re-seating a ball valve using a brass or other soft drift.
Question. Which one is it, as the only ball valve assembly I know of is the one that lies behind the de-pressurisation bolt on the main accumulator/regulator unit?

Anyone out there know how much XM speedometers/odometers overead by?
Just worked out fuel consumption of my XM 2.1 SED at 45.14 miles per gallon.
On the 2nd June I filled up with 77 litres after driving 76 miles with the fuel light on. (I know its illegal driving on a motorway knowing there may be insufficient fuel but I suspect the fuel light...

Great video of the xantia Activa CT on the track.
You're in-car and you hear the wheels squeeling around the corners but the car doesn't lean over. The outside camera view on the same corners makes the car look as though its going slow because of the lack of any body roll.
I'd love an Activa. Old ones are cheap to buy... but I get the impression...

You may try the common corner softness check, when car is in normal height. Even in hard mode, it should still be easy to press down each corner slowly, to judge condition of wheel spheres.
With stopped engine, ignition off, all doors closed, the car should revert to hard (default) suspension mode. Once engine is running, but car parked, the...

Above all - be sure the coolant level is correctly topped up.
Next, try park the car nose up, then let engine reach normal operating temp in idle, to see if any air locks moves up the filler cap.
The most common XUD/hg killer is in-adequate cooling.
I'd say you should extend efforts to really have the cooling system flushed, ensuring it's not...

I suppose you could by pass the matrix by using a connector to connect the in hose to the return & take the carpets out, dry them, reconnect to the matrix and see if the problem returns. Short of that, there's not much you can do.
If someone's been using straight water, that could answer you question though.

Make sure the drop links are OK no play in them. Give a quick oil 'n' filter change so that the exhust is a bit cleaner. All the usual stuff. Zx's are quite conventional under neathe the skin.

- I dont think the 2 problems are connected, unless the noise tends to get severe when the car sags in speed.
Your GT would have a pretty standard fuel pump & carburettor setup, meaning it's the good old system with wellknown problem types.
My first try would be looking for any restriction in the fuel supply, as an ignition fault tends to...

I had a 95 1.9TD from new and recently changed to a 2000 HDi.
In neither case were there any of the problems that you quote.
If I was in your shoes I would seriously consider an RAC or AA check.

None of this sounds normal at all. I've not heard of a Xantia gearbox giving up, even at 200,000 miles plus. A little noisy on the overrun, perhaps, but not whining.
Take it to an independant citroen specialist for another opinion - sounds like a common hydraulics problem to me, but what, i'm not sure.

It goes from the injection pumps diaphragm housing on top of the pump to the plastic pressure supply ducting from the turbo just a few inches away.

My dad's 1997 Xantia 1.9TD with ECU has no boost (or very little). Somebody suggested the enrichment pipe but where is it on the engine. I couldn't find it and if its not there should that fact come as a surprise?

It will fit fine, swap cams and build it up, take the opportunity to pop a new cambelt on, then check gaps after turning it over several times, then check gaps as per BOL but normally ok unless head has had work previously.Good Luck

Can anyone confirm that a c/head from a PUG 405TurboD 1.9 will fit.
I will obviously swap the cams for the hyd. pump pulley.
I see in the past Jon had put a 1.9 head on a 1.7TD so does it work the other way?

Hi all. Got a m reg xantia 1.9d, and a dash light has come on. Its on the top bank on the right hand side of the speedo head, and looks a bit like a fuel filter bowl with half of it blacked out. Its an amber lamp. Should I worry?

- a search on :

reveals that type LS304 are obsolete and replaced by type LS923, which in turn fits on Xantia 2.0 HDI.
So you were right, it goes on 2.0 HDI engines.

Not had any Xantia related problems for ages touching wood etc. but now have a filter query!
As the title implies, I've a spare LS304 oil filter, supplied incorrectly. Anyone know what it's really meant to go on? I was thinking of using it on an ordinary XUD as I presume it's intended for an HDI, thus this will be fine.

I decided I would change my aux belt as it shows signs of surface cracking on the back.
On starting the job I find that the tensioner pulley has a groove worn in it by the belt. That would I suppose be OK but the surface has worn away in patches. It's like looking at an aerial view of a group of islands all around the pulley!

Hello!
Leave the battery off for 10 mins will be sufficent for air bag removel.
There are 2 torx screws behind the steering wheel and they are 30 torx i think. When these are loose, gently lift the air bag up a bit until you can see the coloured connector and remove this. Safely
stow the air bag.
To get the steering wheel off requires a bigger...

Hmmm...
I'm a bit scared with airbag systems, dont like to fool people being knocked down inside their own car - by their own car ...
So really, I'm on thin ice here
My best bet is, that the controlling electronics have sensed a missing circuit continuity to any of the components, then setting off the light to warn you.
Hope someone else onboard...
