Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Silly question but is it using more fuel? a kn**kerd cat would use a lot more fuel. This could then possibly flood (over enrich)the engine and in turn give this stalling and lack of power but don't quote me on it.
Shouldn't be to much to remove the cat and have a look inside. Did one on a Rover 600 (horrible car) and took about 30 mins to remove...

If the filters are like those on a BX the advice is simply to wash in petrol. No doubt a soak and a careful brush may help but unless they are split they should be re-useable.
BX tank filters are nylon mouldings, with very fine mesh panels.

Just a quick question.
Do GSF sell the LHM filters for the Xantia?
I said it was a quick one.
I just changed my LHM for the Hydraflush stuff but they did not have filters. I will change them when I put LHM back in. The old ones were a real mess, very clogged up with black stuff.

I have tried a mixture up to 85% (New)veg oil in a conventional XUD with no trouble, you can further reduce viscosity by adding a small amount of unleaded petrol to the veg oil. try a google search on WVO and Vegoil. dont tell the taxman though;0)

Would it be safe or beneficial to use a weak mixture of diesel and veg oil in a 2.0 HDI engine? Say a few litres per tank. I don't see any problem with viscosity in summer.

Firstly unless yours is one of the very first Xantias then it will not have a 2 pin connector.
Up until roughly the introduction of the MK2 Xantia they had a 30 pin connector in with the fuses where the handbooks are kept, Mk2s then went onto a 16 pin connector. If either of these connectors are fitted then the paperclip method won't work, you...

The rear suspension is Torsion bar i believe, perhaps something is mishapen? had and knocks or gone over any large bumps recently? perhaps the damper is mullered, check it for leaks etc

Got a Haynes manual #3082? See page 12.23 photos 27.26a&b
Trying to pull the fan out on its own tends to destroy it, however you should be able to just prise the clock out and poke a finger round the fan without removing the whole ventilation housing.
Have you seen the price of that fan? Might be worth trying a shot of WD40 first.

I looked on Dixon Motors trade in guide, well, Dixon are very exact when it comes to price. They even go as far as pence!

grandparents are selling their 1992 BX automatic Diesel, as far as i am aware it has done around 120000 miles, superbly maintained, oil changed every 4000 miles. just been serviced etc, A1 condition, how much do you think is a sensible price to put it up for?

leftmost relay in fuse/junction box. May be swapped with neighbour relay (window winder), or one of the 2 rightmost relays if fitted.
- or relay contact pins simply bridged by a jumper cable /2 male spades.
NOTE : Circuit fused by fuse F4 30Amp.

The turbo is an exhaust driven pump. It is configured as a low pressure high volume pump and its output is dependant on the amount of exhaust gas flowing through its driving side.

Intercoolers don't normally fail so you should be able to find a good secondhand one cheaply. Just wash it out with petrol while you've got it off the car and when you're sure the petrol is out, fit it.

what a nice car to drive except for the clutch pedal thst seems to be too high for my long legs,can it be altered? i have to change the cambelt and do all the other neccessary maintenance so what should i look out for? is the work going to be any easier than working on my 2.5 diesel xm? or have i dropped a clanger?

You don't mention which vehicle/engine you have.
However, if FM reception is OK then your aerial's probably fine too. AM reception problems generally stem from two causes: the ignition system and the alternator. Does the radio whine? or crackle? or both? Is reception clear with the engine switched off? Does the interference vary with engine speed,...

For a long time I've had intermittent engine inference buzzing from the radio when it was tuned to LW stations. I've recently had a JVC aftermarket radio fitted and find that the LW reception is even worse, most of the time. FM reception seems OK.

It sounds like its too far advanced with the tappety noise, the diesel knock sounds like this when injection takes place too soon.
It will run with a tooth and possibly even two out in either direction but would run like a pig, its more likely to be the pumps timing position thats out rather than the pulleys, once its been off and meddled with...

First check pressure feed between fuel pump and pressure side of inlet system a leak in this one would cause under fuelling and poss overheat on a run and not idling (no turbo fuelling)not sure where that one goes on xantias.Otherwise have a look at the turbo wastegate it could be stuck, if its a garrett one you could have a look at the actuator...

exhaust noise / blub blub, from behind the inlet manifold but exhaust is not blowing rag at rear and you get your hand blown off, car lacks power and over heats to 110 degrees on a run new water pump new rad new stat, still the same car only runs at 85 / 90 degrees when left standing...

Over the years I've had a lot of success by making up my own pullers using big bolts, washers and pieces of pipe. It's amazing how a constant pressure will release something in time particularly if you use heaps of oil or penetrene and heat and simply keep cranking up the pressure on the nut. I use this method to also refit bushes at times but...

Hydraflush/Hydracleanse is supposed to remain in the system for 1000 miles.
As far as I am aware, it is just LHM with some detergents / disperants in it to pick up dirt and hold it in suspension. I'm not sure what effect you get from leaving it in too long, worst case it could clean dirt away from seals meaning that you end up with leaks (i.e....

Your head could be skimmed with the valve gear in place... BUT.. As the usual way to do it is on a surface grinder, the process will produce fine particles of carborundum dust, i.e. tiny bits of the grinding wheel come off during machining. These tiny bits will get washed into your valve guides, springs, under the valve seating, etc etc by the...

I think it is most likely to enable the machinist to set up. But dont want to disturb the cam/valve setup unless I have to.
Also GSF only supply 1 size of gasket for this model, Haynes suggest a thicker one if the head has been skimmed, what approach should...

If you have a diesel then the light is directly above the glowplug light. If not diesel that means its in the right hand bank of warning lights on the dashboard but at the top left corner of them.

Stempy I think you're looking along the right lines because modern auto boxes do have some influence over the power output of the engine by way of reducing it in order to smooth out the gear changes.
Does the transmission fluid need changing, is there a filter in the gearbox which is now clogged and is there a temperature sensor on the gearbox are...

What do you have to do to get the brakes to overheat? What symptoms do you get when they are overheated?
Do the wheel hubs feel hot after driving a distance without using the brakes (i.e. an indication of binding brakes)? Does one side overheat more than the other side? How much backing material is left on your brake pads? Too little will cause...

Basicaly the problem you will have is that the suspension will be riding on its bump-stops. When you go over a bump in the road this will cause an uncomfortable ride, but more worryingly when cornering at speed the car will start to roll to the point where the suspension runs out of what is now a short length of travel causing a degree of vehicle...

if you had breaks that had gone metal to metal and had badly gouged the front discs, would you replace the discs.
I ask this as i would every time but a friend took her car to a main dealer and was told that the discs were fine, so they just replaced the pads.

Apparently you can get an alloy filler; something like Chemical Metal or JB Weld, I think. Normal spray cans can be used quite well after rubbing down; just apply lots and lots of thin coats to build up the paint, and check for rection between the old paint/brake dust and the new paint (try a primer first?)

Get it done at a Cit Dealer and send them the bill? I wouldn't be happy, but alas (I think) as all they sold was the part, then that's all they're liable for. AFAIK they are breathers, and shouldn't be connected to anything. They also shouldn't be leaking fluid.... Sounds like one or both of your rear cylinders has failed

you have 2 nylo pipes on each rear suspension rubber bellow.
The pipe towards front of car is simply the vent pipe for the air cavity inside the bellow. This pipe ends blind/open in the rear crossmember tube as a means to prevent dirt getting in to the vented bellow.

I had this on my Xantia a couple of years ago after having the aircon regassed. The problem was caused by the so called aircon engineer putting too much gas into the system causing it over pressurise.
When this happens the compressor tries to overcome the high pressure causing the engine feel like its misfiring. The aircon system has a pressure...

Ignition switch comes to mind, unlike 'normal' cars that have high amperage items working by way of a relay, Citroen in their wisdom decided not to use a relay and save 20p per car. Consequently after a while the contacts in the switch wear out/break down hence why it worked when you re-started.
