Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Leather was an option, and there are very few ZX's with it. The same goes for Aircon. You will probably have to search long and hard to find such a car.
You could try the retrofit route, some times specialist Citroen breakers like www.cit-ren.co.uk or www.edwardsandson.co.uk may have Leather interiors for sale. Aircon can also be retrofitted,...

Could be air getting into the fuel pipes somewhere, I had a similar problem with a BX diesel which would often stall when coasting to a stop at the end of slip roads after a long motorway run. Sump plug? Sump gasket? Rocker cover gasket? Leaking turbo oil feed pipe or oil return pipe? Headgasket? Cracked block or head?
Its most likely the sump gasket, you'll have to have a look at where the oil is actually coming from, bearing in mind that under bonnet air flow can move oil considerable distances...

I have a 1993 ZX 1.9TD Volcane, it has covered 119,000 miles.
It has recently started leaking oil, it runs down the back of the sump near the sump plug.
I have it booked into a garage on Thursday for it to be looked at and a MOT.

After the obligatory glitch: (arrive home at midnight, run aircon electrics with the engine off to hear fans cut in before leaving at 6:30 to get gas. Zip. Nothing.)
A tweak on the pot mounting lugs where the slider wasn't being slid fixed that.
Then off to Citronics. I'd thought of nearly everything but I expected them to have the R12 to R134a...

What are with thyristors on the fan motor, did you observe it. It is quite common problem with brushes in motor also, I have to change it every 80000km. It is hard to find it while there are special hardness material (mix charcoal and copper). If the motor is from 1996, you freely change the brushes, then try to fix other problems. Last time when...

if there is no gas or low gas pressure in the system a cut out switch prevents the compressor engaging for safery reasons.id get the gas pressure checked first.

the air is not working but i dont think its the gas , as when i switch it on there is not the pull on the engine and no click and the engine fan i dont comes on , however the lamp on the switch comes on .

The difference between Hard and Soft isn't always noticable on HA2 cars (unlike the HA1 on the XM which was on or off). one thing to check is the motor.
If you touch the motor and try to move the seat can you feel the motor trying to work or is the motor hot.
If you get any of the things above it sounds like the motor has seized.

On my '97 2.5 the passenger side seat has stopped going fore and aft on the rails.
There is a click from something down there, and the relay feels warm to touch.
Can the relay from the other side be substituted to eliminate this?
Do the motors burn easily?
Or is there anything else I should be looking for? I have no idea of noises around...

How's this then I think I got a bargin. Have fitted in to my Xsara VTR a Citroen CD changer set up. All parts except the lead where off E-bay.
Citroen CD compataible head unit, with the funny shaped front £25
Citroen CD Changer (had to by another philips head unit with it) £60
And a Citroen CD changer lead £43.
All in that's only £128 and took...

Yes,2.0ltr turbo.No intercooler.90bhp,151 lbft.52mpg(top gear figures)They never put the 110bhp Hdi in it.Being in the Caravan club,i get their monthly magazine.They had a feedback story last year,where most owners said towing ability was average to good.Depends a lot on size/weight of caravan though.

Hmm,
what sort of cold start device does the Xantia use ?? You need to find the cold start timer and ensure it's working, if it has a cold start injector, you also need to test this as well. Don't replace anything else until you have verified that exact component is the problem.

Not to sure with Zx.But your thinking along the right lines.If the sunroof is a slide and tilt type,open it all the way back.At the front,you should see a couple of small holes at either side.These are the drain holes.Pour a bit of water in them,it should flow straight out somewhere by the front wheels,if not they are blocked.

if its the engine im thinking of from the mid 90's, the tensioner is held on by two 6mm allen bolts, the top one is sometimes rusted on so be carful when undoing (you dont want to strip it out)

It's the cable; possibly snapped just behind the firewall.
There is 2 types of clutch cable, one for the Diesels and 16Vs and the other for the rest. Yours should be the one for the rest if it's petrol.
If you goto the on-line shop on this site, it will give you part number and price.
Naturally the one for the 19TZi/Tri is cheaper than the...

Does the fan work on maximum speed? If so the problem would not be the motor but the resistor.
To get access to the fan remove the felt trim below the glovebox, the fan is above, a large rounded black plastic assembly.

The only must do is to not just push the pistons back into the caliper as this will ruin them. If you do not have what is called a 'brake wind back tool' (about £25) get a large screwdriver with a square shaft and use that to slot across the grooves on the piston and basically screw the piston back into the caliper.

I doubt bypassing on any model is really possile. Certainly on my Dad's TD they had to pull the fuel pump to bits to remove the keypad.

Later engine then the XUD. A bit of a Hybrid really. Easy to tell if your looking at one, is look at the fuel filter. XUD has a round fuel filter and DW8 has a oval fuel filter.

Firstly if you go to your main dealer they should have a tool to check to make sure the emitter is working. Its just a black box with LEDs that light if your plip is working.
Now from memory i think the plip has to be programmed in to the CPH unit in your car and it 'may' have lost its setting which means it will have to be done again with the...

Could be that the bulb has perished and has developed a hole. I thought mine had and having got the replacement, found it was a false alarm. I think GSF supplied it.

If it does it warm/hot, then you can rule out general rough running due to glowplugs etc.
The governer in the Lucas fuel pump is hydraulic and doesn't work properly when it gets air inside it. If you've not got an air leak, possibly a restriction on the air intake or fuel filter could cause surging, if its not one of the above things it would have...

Car a little lumpy on startup this morning. Took it out at lunchtime and there is a surge of about 100 RPM about every three seconds. I have a transpparent pipe from the fuel filter to the pump and can't see any air bubbles (Which doesn't rule it out) but has anybody any idea what is wrong please? to deal with the easy bit first - the light should take about 10 secs to go out, perhaps longer on a Xantia with the twin outlet pump which has 5? pistons for the power steering and 2 for the brakes and suspension.
I think your rear spheres are flat and the accumulator may be as well. if the rear spheres are sound the car should drop about 4...

They only attach between the towing eyes at the rear and drop down so that the piece of bar carrying the ball misses the rear bumper, I would have measured mine but its fitted now.

It could be either an air leak in the fuel lines or the glowplugs, yes. An easy way to test the glow plugs on the car is to test their resistance with a multimeter, one pin on either terminal of the glowplug. A Healthy plug should see a very low resistance but a caput plug will show infinity.

This is my first diesel I've owned (Volcane) & often on cold start-up (say about 1 out of every 4) I get a huge cloud of grey smoke puff out & the idle hunts for about 2-3 seconds........then it's fine, doesn't smoke much at all really other than those times & the first time you put your foot down after it's warmed up.

If your front nearside wheel was worn on the outside edge it suggests too much toe-in and the tracking needs to be adjusted soon. make sure its is done properly from both sides, not just one unless the rack is already out of position.
Your rear tyres will have worn in the centre with a flat tread and shulders. The front tyres will have more wear...

If your vehicle is a 2000 model, you'll probably be looking for a DW8 engine rather than an XUD. Not so many of them about, but they were also fitted to Pug 306's and Xsaras. I don't know whether an earlier engine would fit.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep about the ECUs on these. Put into perspective, the production runs of various models usually exceeds a million. In the case of the BX I think it was about 2.5 million units, so how many have ECU problems? .00001% maybe?
If you follow many of the threads you refer to, chances are that you have struck a lot of kneejerk...

changeing this gasket can be a real pig of a job as the engine needs to come right forward,even then there is not much room to get the turbo off. taking it to a garage would be a good but probably expensive idea if you dont want to venture it yourself.

Hi j.j., it does sound close to terminal but the only real way is a compression check. The pressurising of the crankcase is really only caused by ring blow by and this could be broken rings. In extreme cases it is possible for the rings to stick in piston grooves when the engine is cooked well. No short term cure. Get a compression check done...
