Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

New cars must pass an MOT after 3 years, then they have to retested every year, regardless of mileage. The regs have got much tighter over the last few years, and we are promised (ha ha!) computerised systems any time soon, so testers will be able to see what it failed on before, and any advisories, so they can pay 'special attention' to...

Regardless of miles travelled they must have a Warrant of Fitness (safety check - about $45 - 16 pounds in your money) every 6 months. My dad has a ZX (as do I) with a problem with the brake fluid light.
We know its the same light as for the hand brake, but when going down a steep hill (incidentally with a full load of adults in the back) the light would come on. At the bottom of the hill it would flicker on and off and then go out, which indicates to me a fluid sensor...

The clutch on 4-cylinder XM's can be changed without removing the gearbox completely, so it shouldn't cost more than any other car of a similar size.

Have they always been like that??Could the ride height be droping a bit at the back??
If not,somewhere behind/on top of the lights under the bonnet will be 2 screws.1 adjusts lights up/down,the other left/right.The best thing is to park on the level in front of a wall,or garage door,and just adjust them down.You will see the beams move on the wall...

The headlights on my xantia don't appear to give much illumination on the road. They appear to be aimmed too far in front of the car, but I'm not sure if its a simple job to adjust them, or its there's another way to realign then.....

hi, I would check the wiring where it connect to the switch, my front offside did the same and I pushed the connector back into the door switch, worked great after.

Double check the Heated rear window works, if not, it could be the ignition switch.Also could be the rheostat on the motor itself. Just another thought has it been leaking water into the NSF footwell at anytime? Its common for the scuttle panel to be split and water to enter the heater motor that way. Good luck

This isn't the first time I've come across nearly new Doseur failures. This is the fourth in a year. I suspect that the last ones were made on worn out tooling. Vexing, though isn't it?

After much tracing and diagnostic, I have to conclude that my brake doseur is the culprit for fast ticking. The return pipe is practically gushing LHM. I am under the impression that its the rear axle on some early production vehicles.Possible a new axle is needed but it depends when it was made.I belive that it also effects the front suspension set up, so a straight swop is not always possible. If the AX has the same inherant problems as the BX, could I suggest that you spray silicone release spray around the back of the speedo where the cable enters, use a screwdriver or similar to work it until it frees up properly and then secure the speedo cable so that it doesn't turn at right angles immediately after it leaves the speedo and...

I hope it's nothing serious - on our first Xantia (96 year), it kept falling out of gear and needed a new gearbox! I'm sure yours is nothing serious our 205 GTi's gear lever moves around like a spoon in some porridge!

I don't remember there being a box, just a knurled type connector. The cable comes from the back of the gearbox. Its quite a stiff cable and proper routing is essential or they flicker or break again. Sticky ISCV (Idle speed control valve) is the first bet; pull it off (not literally) and it'll probably be gunged up. Carburettor cleaner and a toothbrush will work wonders on it.

Does anyone know of a way to improve the rear lights on a Xantia. It's a '94 2.0 LX but the rear lights have that cloudy appearance. I don't know if there's a way to get them back to looking more respectable or if I'm gonna need to get some new lights to improve my back end (if you pardon the expression).

Leather was an option, and there are very few ZX's with it. The same goes for Aircon. You will probably have to search long and hard to find such a car.
You could try the retrofit route, some times specialist Citroen breakers like www.cit-ren.co.uk or www.edwardsandson.co.uk may have Leather interiors for sale. Aircon can also be retrofitted,...

Its most likely the sump gasket, you'll have to have a look at where the oil is actually coming from, bearing in mind that under bonnet air flow can move oil considerable distances...

I have a 1993 ZX 1.9TD Volcane, it has covered 119,000 miles.
It has recently started leaking oil, it runs down the back of the sump near the sump plug.
I have it booked into a garage on Thursday for it to be looked at and a MOT.
Any suggestions on what it could be ?
I am just about to sell it as well !!

After the obligatory glitch: (arrive home at midnight, run aircon electrics with the engine off to hear fans cut in before leaving at 6:30 to get gas. Zip. Nothing.)
A tweak on the pot mounting lugs where the slider wasn't being slid fixed that.
Then off to Citronics. I'd thought of nearly everything but I expected them to have the R12 to R134a...

What are with thyristors on the fan motor, did you observe it. It is quite common problem with brushes in motor also, I have to change it every 80000km. It is hard to find it while there are special hardness material (mix charcoal and copper). If the motor is from 1996, you freely change the brushes, then try to fix other problems. Last time when...

if there is no gas or low gas pressure in the system a cut out switch prevents the compressor engaging for safery reasons.id get the gas pressure checked first.

the air is not working but i dont think its the gas , as when i switch it on there is not the pull on the engine and no click and the engine fan i dont comes on , however the lamp on the switch comes on .
i have checked all the fuses in the car and engine bay unless there are any i dont know about , and unless there is no gas in the system but !!!

Xantias are much harder that Cits of old; the VSX even more so. The Activa is more so still! The difference between Hard and Soft isn't always noticable on HA2 cars (unlike the HA1 on the XM which was on or off). Having the hydractive 2 arrangement and being used to CXs and BXs there seems to be a big difference of the comparative feel.

one thing to check is the motor.
If you touch the motor and try to move the seat can you feel the motor trying to work or is the motor hot.
If you get any of the things above it sounds like the motor has seized.

Folks,
On my '97 2.5 the passenger side seat has stopped going fore and aft on the rails.
There is a click from something down there, and the relay feels warm to touch.
Can the relay from the other side be substituted to eliminate this?
Do the motors burn easily?
Or is there anything else I should be looking for? I have no idea of noises around...

How's this then I think I got a bargin. Have fitted in to my Xsara VTR a Citroen CD changer set up. All parts except the lead where off E-bay.
Citroen CD compataible head unit, with the funny shaped front £25
Citroen CD Changer (had to by another philips head unit with it) £60
And a Citroen CD changer lead £43.
All in that's only £128 and took...

Yes,2.0ltr turbo.No intercooler.90bhp,151 lbft.52mpg(top gear figures)They never put the 110bhp Hdi in it.Being in the Caravan club,i get their monthly magazine.They had a feedback story last year,where most owners said towing ability was average to good.Depends a lot on size/weight of caravan though.

Hmm,
what sort of cold start device does the Xantia use ?? You need to find the cold start timer and ensure it's working, if it has a cold start injector, you also need to test this as well. Don't replace anything else until you have verified that exact component is the problem.

Not to sure with Zx.But your thinking along the right lines.If the sunroof is a slide and tilt type,open it all the way back.At the front,you should see a couple of small holes at either side.These are the drain holes.Pour a bit of water in them,it should flow straight out somewhere by the front wheels,if not they are blocked.

if its the engine im thinking of from the mid 90's, the tensioner is held on by two 6mm allen bolts, the top one is sometimes rusted on so be carful when undoing (you dont want to strip it out)

It's the cable; possibly snapped just behind the firewall.
There is 2 types of clutch cable, one for the Diesels and 16Vs and the other for the rest. Yours should be the one for the rest if it's petrol.
If you goto the on-line shop on this site, it will give you part number and price.
Naturally the one for the 19TZi/Tri is cheaper than the...
