Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Could be an after market alarm fitting. My old ZX had a simalar thing in the fuse box, traced it back to some c**p alarm that gave up years ago.

Just had to change a fuse & found an addition that's not in the handbook. Attached by a sticky pad to the right hand side of the fuse box is an orange coloured connector with 2 blade connectors (room for a third) and two green wires coming out the back. It looks like original equipment & I'm curious to know what it's for

before you get any cash out ask for the history! Don't let motor journalist put you off, if you need to replace the sphere's then you can the whole set (10 of them) for about 250.00 quid!
0-60 and top end speed seem to vary on which site you look at but its quiet quick, think the suspension cancels out how quick you are attuactly going!

I can run faster than my 1998R Xantia 16v auto (new shape)
It's been the same since I bought it 6 months ago, has 127,000 miles (with full history). When accelerating from standstill it is so painfully (and dangerously) slow. Once it's going it's fine, kicks down fine, plenty of power etc.
Has anyone come across this before?
I wondered about...

You can buy a stud extracter or you can screw 2 nuts together and tighten them up about midway on the thread. Then put a spanner on the first nut you put on and unwind the stud. Or if you are going to replace the studs try a pair of mole grips-it will knacker the threads but should get them out.

Hi All, im in the middle of changing my head gasket and have got everything off apart from the head itself, ie. Timing belt, Auxillery Belt. Just before removin the head i had to remove the Exhaust manifold which is fine but the only problem is the studs that are attached to the head have to come out as well before it can be lifted how the hell do...

I bought my first XM a couple of weeks ago and had to fiddle with bare wires to try and get my radio working, at one point I must have connected a wrong wire and smoke came out of the radio compartment, afterwards the radio still worked, but when I went to start the car I turned the key and.....nothing.

Its bad news I'm afraid.
It means your engine management unit has detected a fault in the engine management system. What that fault is is stored in the ECU and a diagnostics tool is required to read the fault.
On the plus side I've never owned a Citroen which is ashamed of this feature and they usually regularly 'show off' their fancy little...

I found exactly the same thing on mine when it stopped working, i.e. burnt / melted connector on the single red wire.
To fix it I cleaned up the spade connector and re-soldered the joint where the male spade joins the pcb. Has worked fine ever since.

Checked back in former threads to find similar faults, no joy, so hear goes. Power is going through to four pin plug at 12v on big red wire, 1.5v on little red wire. coincidently i was just working on a 1.9 td synergie just yesterday and the box LOOKS similar to the ones the xantia 2.1 and HDIs. i say looks because its got the same cable shifter instead of the small link bars

Does the Synergie share its gearbox with any other models? I.E. could a Xantia TD box slot into a Synergie TD?
A neighbour has a Synergie with a faulty box and I have notice a few cheap Xantias so maybe a source of a replacement box? Theres been no joy with breakers for Synergie gearboxes.

mate you seem to be having all sorts of fun!! if i where you then i would pop round to my local citroen dealer tomorrow and ask them to do a full diagnostic, shouldn't cost that much and a least you'll have a good idea of what need attention and if your up for it!

some poeple have done their own clutch on the driveway to save money, it can take a couple of days if your unfamilier with the car and how it comes apart,if you need it done quicker take it to a citroen specialist or mr clutch/kwik fit or whatever and part with about 400 quid...you decide

Check your front brake pads - they may need replacing. The wiring to the pads is very unreliable. Sometimes if it has rubbed on something, the covering allows the wire to be exposed, giving the same result as a worn pad.

Start by looking at the rocker cover joint and (more likely) the various vent pipes on the front of the engine and round the oil filler. These seem to alter with age and work loose. Simply fitting new clips may help - worked wonders on my BX!
Remember these transverse engines receive a considerable blast of air when the car is driven and any oil...

Had a s/h engine fitted a month ago. I have just changed the oil and all the filters and noticed some oil on the engine block. It seems to be coming from the injector on no. 2 cylinder, where it is screwed into the cylinder head. It is engine oil, not diesel. There are no apparent problems with starting, idling or performance.

The hand primer dosen't bleed the fuel system it only primes the fuel pump. To bleed the system first turn on ignition so that the stop solenoid is energised pump the primer bulb untill resistance is felt, that's the low pressure fuel side done now bleed the high pressure side by undoing the pipe work / nut at the injectors preferably one at a...

The engine cranks for about 10-15 seconds before catching. After this it starts fine all day.
This problem has started to occurr after I had the head rebuilt and replaced after a cambelt snap. The mechanic did take the engine out to do the job - due to restricted access in the bay.

Dunno about the engine no, but assuming you're talking HDi then ID'ing a 110 is easy - just check for the air hoses running to an intercooler in front of the engine. No intercooler and it's a 90.
I wouldn't worry too much if the VIN numbers match - the trim level is a bit arbitrary especially where Citroen are concerned!

What the fluff is it..... I did a HPi and that says its a Forte..... deeply worrying (at least i bought from a main dealer) the Vin plate and chassis vin stamp match the V5, but the simalarity ends there.... its got a hell...

I like the dashboard in my zx. Yes the centre console bit is a bit cheap looking but the whole things nice and dark and the material on the top of it by the screen is nice, none of this new cheapo plastic rubbish which randomly changes colour and has bits of grey and some weird blue etc.

Hi All. The sunroof on the ZX Aura seems to have become very slightly missaligned somehow. When closed there is about an 8th of an inch gap at the front on the passenger side, and the roof doesnt go right down flush with the rooftop on that side at the rear, it is as if the roof has been forced back slightly on that side. when my xantia reaches approx 63 mph the passenger side front wheel/corner starts vibrating and dos'nt stop until it reaches about 68 mph its totally smooth before and after right up to 100 mph

If the pulsing is all of the time and not when you are locking wheels (i.e. in gentle braking and moderate) you've got the dreaded pulsing pedal problem.

ERM... should the ABS sound and feel like a machine gun going off under my foot? also the brake pedal feels a little low compared with the other pedals (it is about quater of an inch lower set than the loud pedal and the clutch.... feels odd to start with because when i move my foot its not where i think it should be...)

Dan when you say raod noise, do you mean noise from the tyres or is it noise from the engine side of things? Where abouts is the noise? is it louder over certain roads surfaces etc. Sorry for all the questions but it could be just worn tyres.

Every car I've owned has a gush of air entering the fuel tank when I open the filler cap. It's never caused me any trouble...

Just calming down after driving my mum's Xsara. Everytime I have to use that thing it makes me mad. Really mad. Its an awful bloody thing. There is nothing right about it but one of the worst things is the 1000/4000 rpm switch that takes the place of the throttle on a decent car. The ECU engine coolant temp sensor (CTS) is responsible for the correct choke action.

NO!!!
The best is 54mpg,the worst,22mpg.Although that was in Italy along the coastal motorway to Verona with a caravan.Up,down,tunnel.Up,down,tunnel.......You get the idea.
I average about 40mpg week in week out through a mixture of driving.

Just got an amazing 65.4 mpg coming back from Westo/s/Mare at a very steady 60mph, Very boring but never had my cards on me to get any more fuel (Doh) Orange light on for most of the journey, Strange thing is going averaged 90-95mph and it only took 20 minutes more to get home, I've treble checked the figures !!!!!! Can anyone beat this!!

All of the BX rear cylinders I've replaced (quite a few in days gone by) have suffered from terminal exterior corrosion - but that could be due to the enormous amounts of salt they put on the roads over here in the winter.

Sounds about right, the only step you may have missed was to check the LHM level. If I was being pedantic, I might say you should have lubricated the 'o' rings with LHM before spinning the new spheres on.

De-pressurised the system as Haynes manual says, removed sphere, put new one on hand tight, then re-pressurised and did Citroebics.

It's worth a go, but probably won't make a difference. It's much more likely to be a caliper that needs stripping, freeing up and copper greasing. Check that the rubber boots are intact and securely fitted as well.
A brake fluid flush won't go amiss while you've got the wheels off. Of course - when you go near them, the bleed nipples will snap off...

The rear calipers are held on by two hex bolts, there are not torque bolts on them.
When the corrosion happens behind the caliper, it pushes it away from the suspension arm usually at an angle. This means that your pads won't have been in the right place on the disc and won't have been at the right angle either. If you're lucky the discs will...

Well, a clutch job on a Xantia TD is often the thick end of £400 add to that the cost of a 2nd hand box (what makes you think the main shaft has gone?) and you are not likely to see much change out of £600. That will buy an N or P plate TD with average miles - add another few hundred and you will get a really nice one - some clear thinking is...

The Evasion was called the Synergie for the Uk market, and we got them here with 2.0 8v petrol engines, 1.9 Turbo Diesels, then 2.0 HDi engines in the later ones. They are the same as the Peugeot 806 and Fiat Ulysee bar minor styling details.
For some European markets, you could also get the Evasion with 1.8 8v or 2.0 16v petrol engines, 2.0...

although they dont test the abs, if the warning lights on I think it can be failed on it as this happened to me. Turned car off and back on and the intermittent light stayed off and it passed. Of course this year it also passed however the MOT was just after I had the dash apart and was fiddling with the dash bulbs say no more

My light came on last year.Took it to a independent garage.Said it was the contact rings on the steering wheel.With the diognostic check & fix was about £80.Not to sure about diy.Most likely to be the steering wheel though.

I've got a 1996 Citroen Xantia as a 2nd car runabout thing.
Just as I'm trying to sell it,the Airbag warning light has started to flash.
This kind of puts people off buying it...
Anyone know if there is anything easy and obvious I can check for, otherwise I'll have to put it into the dealers and get ripped off. (£65 p.h.!)

All it needs is a couple of litres of LHM by the sound of it! Anybody round that way better avoid white Xantias without brakes though... Beggars belief that people will put them selves in such situations though, and then advertise it on public web sites. (shakes head in disbelief)....
