Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Nor sure of the position of the first cable join on the Xantia, but it can't be too far from the sensor, otherwise Citroën would have to sell a sensor with miles of cable on it. Find the joint, pull it apart and do a resistance measurement towards the sensor - if no luck, then you can try shortening the cable to the sensor to see if it's u/s. If...

Have you tried unplugging the control box for a few minutes?
Unplug the alarm control box & then try coding your key in.
The key should switch the alarm sounder off because it has a battery back up.
The remote key is needed to switch the rest of the alarm on & off.

Get a 6mm tap, a socket head (alan key) grub screw, drill a 5mm hole in the plunger housing and tap it out, force the plunger and spring in and nip it with the grub screw to hold it in place while the mount is refitted, remove the grub screw to let the plunger back out to do its job again.

It sounds like the ball has had its diameter reduced as a result of rusting, try it the other way around, the last one I fitted was tighter one way than the other.

It usually spells poor electrical connections to one of the wheel sensors. A messy job tracing the cable from the sensor back to the ECU and pulling any joints apart, cleaning them, greasing and reconnecting. If you check the resitance of each sensor at the ECU (pull off the big connector and measure with a multimeter) or if you're lazy, drive...

Have you tried a new heater motor resistor? This sounds as though yours may have some form of thermal overload problem and that's why it's stopping. Normaly quite easy and cheap to buy and replace. What car's it on?

Is it as difficult to start when the engine is hot?
The two major starting problems with diesels are air the fuel and misfunctioning glowplugs.
Have you tried pumping up the fuel pressure by hand first? If this helps, then you've still got air leaks - the seal on the fuel filter canister is a well known source of air ingress on this engine,...

as long as it is the same modal and year or you can get air con kits from new.
the only yhing with getting it from a scrap yard is the fitting it without instructions as it is not an easy job even with instructions.

Dunno, we got one from the local scrap yard for my M8's car - i think it was £5.00. One thing we did find is the the plastic steering wheel column was all one peice and the only way to remove it properly was to take off the steering wheel? We just sliced through it with a dremel and then stuck it back together...

To your description it sounds to me like you've got the N45338F sphere, which is the rear Activa balancing sphere - nothing to do with the Antisink sphere N45338 (no trailing letter) or any suspension sphere.
For your Activa, you have the following selection of REAR fitted spheres :

Diesel pumps are fine pieces of engineering made to close tolerances. As a result they are very repairable as well and I'm sure that a seal is obtainable, probably from a diesel specialist. Its worth checking with a specialist as the cost of him doing it may not be unreasonable.

If its the same bit i'm thinking of (black cylinder about 5 inches long) then its the throttle damper, its there just to stop the car being too jerkey when your in slow traffic, its just a small hydraulic damper unit to slow down the movement of the throttle and i believe some cars never had them fitted

My ZX TD has the Bosch injection pump. The rod with the ball joint at each end and its bracket is missing - maybe removed by a previous owner? (This is shown in the Haynes manual, page 1-18.) Does this have any effect on the fuelling? The turbo seems to work ok, it definitely kicks in around 2,200 rpm.

According to the circuit diagrams in my Haynes manual, the fan motor is fused by Fuse F1 and the speed control box via Fuse F7.

The blowers have stopped working in the Elation (ZX), I suspect the fuse as they were working fine, until I had a bit of a fuse blowing session while putting the alarm in, I got the wrong wire!! DOH!
I have read the haynes manual & the book that came with the car, neither tell my which is the blower fuse.
Point us to it.

As for the elec windows the difference is a relay, controlled by the ignition key, or this relay (contacts) replaced by a piece of heavy wiring.
You should find this relay in the fuse/junction box. Can then simply be removed, and the relay contacts terminals replaced by a piece of heavy wiring. Would then have a constant +12Vfeed, but still be...

when the engine is cold it works fine but after a trip or when its hot it decides to play up... please please help im going out of my mind trying to locate the prob....

the wire with the black box thingy is just an interfearence supressor.as for your problem its possibly a coolant temp sensor (green one) for the ECU problem.

Then it's the brake master (pedal) valve we talk here - in Citroen world designated the doseur valve, which in french simply means a dose valve, to adjust the flow (dose) of hydraulic pressure out to the brakes.

I have just been offered a Citroen estate 1.9td 96 N.
There are a couple of problems clutch and timing belt but the one that concerns me the most is that the dorser valve needs changing.
The symptoms are very aggressive braking with no feel on the peddle.
It has been diagnosed as the dorser or dump valve (on the bulk head) by citroen mechanics....

All going to plan EXCEPT changed cylinder head of Pug 405 pump for the head off my pump (to keep the same pipes) BUT I need a 7 cylinder head gasket and they only keep 5 cyl. jobbies, Oh bugger.
They have ordered some for delivery tomorrow
So it's a bit close to call whether the weather will be hot and sunny (forcast) or the new millenium ICE...

My alarm/alarm light does the same thing every now and then.Have a look under the passenger side carpet in the front foot well.Theres a load of wires in a connection block.When mine starts to misbehave,i spray it full of WD40.This cures it for another few months.Water leaking in on mine.Might be the same on yours.

I got nowhere so paid up and left, I then wrote to Alain Favey the MD at Slough. He passed it to Ian Arnold who told me that the charges levied for specific repairs, are determined by the time allocated by Citroen UK...

I have suspected for sometime that the cylinder head-gasket was going on my ZX 1.9 D (P-reg). Why? ...
Air was leaking into the cooling system and causing the coolant to be squeezed out of the filler cap. A local-mechanic had a quick look at it, bled the coolant system and went for a test drive. His diagnosis: no problem; keep on driving...

Your Xantia has a BE3 gearbox. This was also used in later BX models The gearbox oil specified is SAE 75W-80W. Hi Mike -
8mm hex key. Preferable a socket suitable for 3/8 or 1/2 4drive.
Dead easy once you have digged your way down to the starter :
Depending on yearmodel, you have either the circular filter canister covering the area - or lots of hoses, ducts, cables etc.
Same goes on the clutch cable : if L-transfer arm fitted, it must be removed to access...

Often one pops up on ebay but an ax will take any normal car radio - it doesn't look like it but any one will fit, doesn't have to be an AX radio and doesn't need an adaptor plate.

You have some kind of a fuelling problem.
Unless you also experience starting problems, it's not a fuel line leak problem.
I'd start by looking at the fuel filter. Might simply need to have collected water drained out.

Have got a 106 with the tud5 engine in it (1.5D - same as the AX & Saxo) and it loses about 1/4 of its power at random times. It comes and goes suddenly. Can be driving along with foot flat to the floor and then suddenly the car jumps ahead and gets going again. When it's playing up it kicks out a fair bit of black smoke.

If it's the same gearbox used in the ZX, I'm sure it is, the capacity is 2 litres.
Take the car for a long run before you drain it, you'll be waiting a long time otherwise.

piece of cake mate. take the intercooler pipes off for better access, but the bottom hose can be a liitle tricky to get off if its held on with a jubilee clip, so try going round the inside of the hose with a thin screwdriver to break the seal then twist it off.

You have the later direct cable attach clutch cable BE3 box, which uses the short switch 95 619 640 (RP 2257 29) as shown in BXpartslist.
PS : the switch rarely fails, try it out with an ohm meter to exclude wiring faults.

Mine is kaput. Is there any way of telling whether I need the long or the short one without removing it? The box is a late one with the clutch cable pulling on a lever. Car is 1992/3. The plastic part of the switch is white.

I've got a Volcane TD also & the fuel gauge does seem to have a mind of it's own too. Doesn't bother me really as I know I always get 500miles to the fuel light (averaging around 49mpg) so I just go by that rather than the gauge.

If it's anything like the Xsara you'll be able to see a little bit of the fuel line when you lift the back seat up and prise the large plastic cover out. This should show the top of the tank with the pump and sender unit below. May just be a leaky seal on this part that screws in to the tank.

Hi Folks!
Anybody know if the electronic speedo circuit on the berlingo is linked to the engine loom in anyway?
The reason I'm asking is a mate of mine has just put an xud into a van that had a DW8 and the speedo no longer works, the box is still the original with the same sender in it and all the wiring seems ok.
Any help would be great...
