Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Guys,
How do I disable the RHS one touch window control on a Xantia?
The LHS window works perfectly (so the relay's OK?), The RH window doesn't work at all.
Power is getting to the one touch control box in the door via the two green wires from the switch, but no power is getting to the red & yellow wires to the window motor.
I'd gladly put up...

Hi
Your first warning light is the one for the low front brake pad wear, Either the sensors are not connected, has fallen out, or one of the wires has shorted to earth.
Who replaced the brake pads? If it was a garage take it back & ask them to sort it!
Your second warning lamp with the picture of the car skidding is the ABS ( Antilock braking...

We need someone to confirm this but I did not think the Xantia lowered itself after parking, anti sink valves fitted? Certainly mine doesn't sink.
The bounce I suspect can only be spheres. Were the spheres from a reputable source?
Try the Citaerobics a few times to check for full operation of the system. Up. down, up, down several times and then,...

When the idle revs are ok (and engine hot) - unplug the stepper motor connector.
If the idle revs still hover - then the stepper motor is NOT guilty

Rear brake drums on ZX TD!
So much easier if you could take off the drum without removing the large centre nut/bearings, therefore necessitating (big word for me, wife spelt it!) the need for a torque wrench.

You'll need to fit the appropriate relay for the window you wish to do. As I have found out the automatic bit is not the switch itself but is a separate relay and new switch.

On my Xantia vsx i have velour.Under the seats are the plugs etc for the seats,plugs in the switch blanks,just need a relay,switchs and fuse.Proberly be the same on yours?
I cant put leather in mine as the rear seats wont fit(estate)

does the car have two cooling fans ? try spinning both of them by hand (obvously make sure the engine is totally cold)to see if they turn freely,one of them may be partially siezed,or if only one of them is working the its likely to be the faulty fan causing this. failing that have a look at the relays situated in between the two fans they are...

recently boughta w reg xantia hdi, great car so far. One thing which i'm not sure about is that from time to time the the temp light and stop light flash together. Bernie - as I understand it the A/C firm are legally obliged to remove and recycle any refrigerant left in the system, hence it's not a buyback as only they are licensed to fill/empty a/c systems.

What happens to the R134a when a system is depressurised, again it is obviously removed from the system but is it reuseable? if so does the operator buy back the r134a?

Possibly the seal around the top of the tailgate? Just dirty perhaps. The rear screen wipe has been known to leak into the car too. Put a plastic sheet over the seats and turn the hose pipe on it or just wash it for change
Otherwise it will have to be a leaking seam in the floor pan. R

Wheel bearings are a wear item, and their service life are HIGHLY dependant on a HUGE number of various factors.
You can in fact NOT anticipate WHEN to replace, and there are no scheduled replace intervals.
The only sure way to know, is when a new rumbling sound starts to accompany your driving.
Chances are you'll never have to replace them...

bloody hell your zx 1.4i done 140,000 miles that means my 94 zx 1.4i with 90,000 miles on the clock has got another good 50,000 miles worth of life left in the wagon yet. Whats the overall condition of the car like in relation to the engine, gearbox and body.

Gassing in the coolant is normally a dead giveaway for a head gasket. Most garages have testers which can detect combustion by products in the water which will confirm.
Not sure about the diesel engine design but removing the thermostat on some engines can be risky as it can lead to uneven cooling throughout the cylinder head/block.

OK, beginners guide to checking Xantia hydraulic suspension:
1. Park car on level ground, engine running. Measure from top of tyre to bottom edge of front wing - should be about 70mm - or 3 finger widths conveniently! Now stand back and look at the car - does it look level front to back along the sills?

There's a hose connecting vaccuum to the carb. This fits onto a black plastic thing on the carb. If the black plastic thing has a small crack, like mine had, it lets air in so that the car stalls at intersections and traffic lights .... Something to do with the vaccuum advance on acceleration. It took me months to find that, and about 50p to fix.

Hi my son has a BX16TRS - 1986. When he bought it it lacked power and stalled a lot. We paid big time for a solenoid in the carb and it has run really well for 18 months. Now it is stalling at intersections and traffic lights and the power dies when you put your foot down on the accelerator. You have to work the manual choke to keep up the revs...

OUTSIDE.no only kidding.you will probably have to check the normal places ie,windscreen surround,scuttle and rear door surround.you may be lucky and find that you left a window open a minute fraction.

sounds like it needed skimming and they tried to get away with just a gasket change, If you get it skimmed it should be ok afterwards

How often do you hear the regulator ticking ?
The ticking interval should be at least 30seconds, if not - then your main accumulator sphere is flat, and can cause a vibrating brake pedal.
If on the other hand you find the hydraulic system all fine, then you could have a problem with a distorted wheel, or even a distorted tyre.

When I apply a slow pressure to the brake pedal (for a small deceleration), I listen a vibrations coming from the braking system. Recently I replaced the disc and the pads, but the problem remain. The vibration go away when I apply more pressure to the brake pedal.
Could it depends by an incorrect pressure of hydraulic system??

Very strange indeed! To put everything back it all needs to be in matching positions to start / run, i.e. everything at TDC, or whatever....are you sure you have read it correctly and not missed something?- if its put back together with all at TDC except the crank, then it certainly won't start like this.

The early Xantia engine and gearbox are the same type fitted to the ZX, but the later Xantias (1996 onwards ?) have an ECU that the earlier ones didn't, this is the only complication I can forsea, and even if it did arise, you could swap over the fuel pump.
The Xantia has some bits and pieces that the ZX won't namely a Hyrdaulic pump and hydraulic...

I am looking at dropping a new engine and box into my ZX TD volcane, as the current occupants are starting to miss behave. I am looking at a straight swap with a citroen 1.9TD, I have the tools and ability but what I do not know is wheather the Xantia engine and box will fit, as it's one of the options for a doner.

Just been past the local Citroen dealer. My attention caught by an older looking shaped car. Turns out to be a bright white 'R' reg 1.4i ZX leader with 29k on the clock. The price......£2999!! I kid you not, that's £2999 . Good looking car with next to no milage but thats the same price as my one owner Xsara VTR with all the bits. No leccy bits...

Just as a rough guess I would say the floor area. Not much to work with , but floors generally appear to be paralell with the groud. If it's a left to right horizontal you're after, then open both fron windows and place a length of wood through the car, resting on the main door tops. I'm sure you get the picture. Hope this is of some small...

Is there anywhere on the car that is level that i can put a spirit level on before i do a gearbox oil change to make sure i have the car 100% level before i refill the gearbox?
I ask because my driveway and local roads are quite hilly and we dont have any truly flat roads anywhere around but i am quite happy to jack the car up and put the front on...

MECH....It may seem like a daft question but did you tap the rust off the edge of the disc before you measured it?
I have an Activa and have found that the standard discs bought from Andyspares with Lucas pads are good enough for all weather driving in the UK but seeing as the weather is generally much worse in Finland then I can understand you...

Argos/Halfords used to do a car cd kit.A holder & stand,plus cables.For use with a personal cd player.My dad used to have one.Put the cd on the stand(which was damped 4 vibrations)plug the cd into the radio socket,then play it through the car stereo.Dont know if they still do it.Cost about £10.

Whoever told you so, must still be day-dreaming on the old days of carburettor fitted engines
You have a problem somewhere on the electronics controlling the engine.
Could be the stepper motor that's seized, or the map sensor, - or the trouble potientiometer.
And NO - it's NOT a question of downloading a...

As a rule of thumb the valves must be removed for a head skimming.
But since this is a rather troublesome job for the home mechanic, it's best to leave the bits on and let the shop do it.
They would only charge negligible extra.
The short answer : dont bother

Just taken the cylinder head off my ZX 1.9d and need to take it to the enginners for a skimming.
I have stripped off the extras from the head but wonder if I need to remove the valves too? There seems to be about 1mm recess in the head that the valves sit in? Can I get away with this?
