Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Just got back from the exhaust garage to cure a blowing exhaust and spotted a leak of an oily type substance that appears to be coming from around the front Left Hand Side of the engine bay.

OK, shop rang back, defo right disks, therefore looks like I need the bracket from the berlingo suspension, or.....
Other option is to try Pug 307 disks, as these will give me the right hub height and disk diameter - think vented section thickness was slightly different.
If need bracket then please advise, or maybe I have a friday car

Started to fit today to Volcane, put disks on, then tried to fit calipers. Hole centres of caliper match up to mounting braket on suspension, but will not fit over disk as catch on outer edge. Its as if the new (susposedly berlingo disks) do not go back far enough.
When lie disks on floor, the old zx ones are taller, than new ones. Shop where...

The fuel lines are available for a few pounds each from GS&F - I bought a pair for a former BX and then never got round to fitting them so can't advise how difficult they are to fit. The front end can't be too bad as I've replaced flexible pipes here when trying to diagnose air-in-diesel problems. Also, the rubber pipes may not like being pulled...

Mine just pulled out. It's a bit tight mind but if you lift the pedal up you should just be able to pull it forward. I just replaced the spring with a metal tube of the same length and diameter.

Do you remember the TV kid's programme Ivor the Engine? He used to make a noise: Psshhtecough is the best way to write it. Is this your noise? If so it's the valve on the accumulator sphere. Did your man change that? (I'm sure he did, but faulty spheres are not unknown, particularly as your noise went away for a short while.)

The Haynes number is 3082, and they seem to appear on ebay for a few quid quite regularly. I've just had a quick look and there isn't much info on the bichtron box, justa wiring diagram for a typical car, not necessarily an aircon one.

Can't help with exact figures, but some cruise controls will only work when in 4/5th gear ( or higher ).
Therefore the minimum physical speed would be what 4th does when the car just pulls itself along.
Then you have the designers, who bicker and say that cruise shouldn't be on below 35, because you'd be in a built up area, and should be more...

Some of you may remember I've been having trouble with my cruise control which my local agent can't seem to fix. When the car was new it wouldn't go below 50 mph. Now it's down to 40, but the handbook says 25 mph.
They've been on to Citroen Tech Dept who have suggested different fixes, none of which seem to work. Now they're saying it won't go...

This sort of thing is a pain in the a**e. Logic says noise on the left must be left drive shaft but in reality it seems to boil down to weight distribution etc as you go around to the left you lessen the load on the right and there fore you have noise. So all in all it's more than likely to be the right hand side. A pain as the shaft goes through...

Start car with a/c on and the fans start at half speed, irrespective of refrigerant pressure excepting that:
If the refrigerant was overpressure, the aircon clutch would not come in and the fans would both run at full speed.
A single fan at full speed can be provoked by shorting two pins of the rad temp switch. Short all three and both fans should...

As you are new to Citroens and your username suffests that you are a former Ford man,
you need to know this. Any work beneath a Citroen requires axle stands to be placed very securely beneath the car. When the height corrector is adjusted, the car will crush you if you don't.
It is necessary to measure the level to which the car sinks before...

basically the back end is way too high. most xantias have the arch roughly in line with the top of the rear tyre. mine is about 9cm higher than this.
the height corrector is working as wheni move the lever it will go up and down etc.
do i therefore take it that the clamp on the anti roll bar needs to be adjusted...

Who is assuming that there is an open loop mode? Closed loop occurs when the system is controlled by a feedback mechanism, eg. the temperature sensor. The closed loop works continuously.

Hi
If your stat was stuck open, the engine would take for ever to warm up. Your temp gauge is not a precision instrument, so don't worry about it - sounds quite normal

I've noticed that my temperature gauge needle will range from about 75-100. When idle, the fan will kick in around 100 and bring it down to 90, so I assume that 90 is considered ideal.
When on the motorway, it will sit well below 90. Does this not suggest that the temperature is less than ideal and that my thermostat may be playing up?

I assume last sentence is a question, so here goes:
If it is nothing simple like the throttle cable sticking, the most likely thing is that the engine is running on oil/oil mist that is somehow getting into the induction system. Does it smoke at all? Not familiar with the layout on your car, but likely causes are something wrong with...

ripsaw, I find Michelin tyres noisy, expensive and not long lasting; for the last 12 years I have used Avon which are quieter and turn in 35/37k on the front @ about £62.50/tyre.

I cannot afford the Michelin ones at £85 a tyre, but do Michelin make that much difference in terms on comfort?

Before you start - take a good look at the bottom edge of the radiator - run your hand along it looking for signs of rust / coolant stains. If it hasn't been changed, it will probably need to be.....
There should be a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator on the right had side of the car (looking forwards!). Drain the old coolant off - flush...

Whats the easiest way to do a coolant change (xan 19td 117k a/c 95n)?
Have read a few postings and have had a quick look for drainplugs but could not identify where it is.Have got 3l of antigel and distilled water as advised on site.
Has anyone tried millers coolant additive ,it claims to reduce corrosion and improve cooling(by up to 15'c).

I use Comma semi synthetic 10/40 and have done for 10 years in wife's 106. No engine wear and uses no oil. Ditto in son's 1997 1.1 106 which has done over 30,000 miles in 2 years (50,000 in total)
IMO fully synthetic is just too good for such a simple engine imo..The extra costs is not justified. Semi sythetic is good enough..

I've had a look at the specs on that oil and it looks suitable for a Xantia TD.
The full specs are at
What you need for a Xantia TD is a 15W/40 oil with an API rating of CD or above, and this oil satisfies both of those conditions.

Cats are downstream of the Lambda sensor so it won't muck up the management. Depending on the year though, it may be a mandatory requirement- check with a Mot station.

Your anti-sink sphere is on its way out.
The suspension height is adjusted by turning the ball clamp ring on the anti roll bars, viewed from the near side, the front roll bar rotates anti clockwise as the body is raising and rear bar rotates clockwise, turning the clamps in those same directions will reduce the height.
Be aware of the danger posed...

1994 with anti sink system.....does not drop until it starts then rear end dips slowly and after about 5-10 seconds it starts to rise again. Whether its an illusion? but it seems that the front goes slightly higher when the rear does its dropping bit.
Also the ride height has been adjusted so the car sits higher in the normal position.... it...

Sounds like the pump drive belt could be slipping, that will make a squeeling noise, it will also be worse when the alternator load is high, such as just after starting or when using headlights or heated screen.

Can anyone advice?
My 93 1.9D LX has recentlt developed a strange squealing/whining noise when turning more than 1/2 a turn in either direction.
I have tried bleeding the system but see no sign of bubbles being purged from the system.
Does it require a fluid change and if so how is that done? Or is this symptomatic of a different problem?

Odd...on mine just hold the switch for more than about a second and the one-shot function disables; then you can stop it where you want. One second = about an inch of opening (takes practice)

Does anyone know how to operate the driver's side electric window without the one touch facility? Power's going to the PCB at the front of the door, but none's going out to the window motor.
At the moment I'm taking power from the cigar lighter & using a cross over switch to change polarity & a dor bell switch to operate the window!

AFAIK all models have a low fuel warning.
But this lamp never comes on as a check with ignition on - UNLESS of course the fuel is in fact low, and then it stays on as long as ignition is on wheter engine runs or not.

Just a quickie. I have a 1996 Xantia 1.9TD LX.
When I switch the ignition on the coolant temp. gauge warning lamp lights up - going off when the engine starts. However the warning lamp on the fuel guage never lights - even with the fuel fairly low.
Anyone know if the LX spec includes a low fuel warning lamp?

again, previously posted i know but just to clear things up a bit more. i changed the accumulator lst weekend and i waw able to pin point the locations of the LHM leaks. It appears to be coming from the metal pipes that connect to the accumulator. would i be right in thinking that these are high pressure pipes?
is it a case of just changing the...

well some of you may recalli recently posted abotu an oil leak. it appears to be coming from an area behind the starter motor on my 1.9td xantia (1993). I note that there is a hose that connects the top of the block to the bottom of the block. could it be this? its either that, or where the filler ajoins the block.
please offer me some help on...

Is it a wheezing noise or is it more of a quacking noise?
The older of my two Xantias, after I changed the accumulator sphere seemed to make a quacking noise instead of the sharp metalic tick that it made before.

changed teh accumulator as this was completely shot. It doesnt click now, but i still get a kind of wheezing noise from it for the first minute or so after stating the engine. then once every 30 seconds or so. no other xantias i have heard make this noise. whats this all about?

Symptoms:
All gears are fine and don't make any excessive noises. The fifth gear however is different, I usually put it in 5th at around 80 km/h (doing around 2200rpm)and the humming (low deep sound but quite soft) starts. It only does it in 5th and stops when I press the gear lever forwards a little bit (5mm max) but then ofcourse have to let go...

Have you tried your spare key? It could simply be a knackered key transponder. failing that it could be the receiver aerial in the steering column (assuming a similar layout to the Laguna).
Other than that it does look a little bit like the imobiliser could be playing at silly beggers. I know a few twoc-ers (my job im afraid, not my social choice)...

taipan, there have been several posts about vibration coming in on Xantia at about 70/80 mph and I've just noticed it on my Mk 2 '99 at 80 - seems to be coming from the NSF wheel but not certain; I wonder could it be a design or manufacturing fault? I also wonder how many others have noticed this?

I told you my company car was very sluggish when I got it, but that is sorted now! I had it serviced and then floored it for a couple of days. Very quick and responsive now as I would expect it to be. So I am very happy with the performance but still...

At a guess the higher the car is the greater the pressure in the LHM to lift it therefore the reduction in the springing effect and damping of the nitrogen .thats why I want to know how to lower mine,

Having had the misfortune of a snapped cam on a renault laguna 1.8 - its pricy but cheaper than a rebuild or second hand engine.
Personal preference and from experience I would replace every 50k (some Fords etc even less than that). Even belts which have only covered 50k have been taken off with spits and missing teeth. - Worse one was a VW polo...

Can anyone tell me when it's best to get the cambelt changed? It was done at 60k, it's now on 108k. Can't see anything definite in the history, though it's discussed a lot. Some do it every 35k, others every 70K. Common sense tells me to get it done now, but it's a bit pricey.

I take it this is on the rear wheels? If so, the camber cannot be adjusted and the rear arm bearings will have failed. The parts are available from various sources and there are some guides on the net with pictures.
Edit: Of course, reading the subject line shows this to be rear camber

The camber on my '92 Xantia is way out. The inside shoulder of the tyres gets to the metal while the rest is still new!! Can the camber be adjusted or is it a bearing problem. If its bearings is it a big expensive job to do myself, as the car my well be off to citroen heaven.
