Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Mine didn't, it was just plug and play with the CD player I had taen from my previous car, a VW Polo. The AX had the standard block type adaptors on it. Don't know if it's standrtad though, as I did not have it from new!

Hi, you are on the right track really. Moving the clamp bracket on the main 'tube' that goes across the car is the means of adjustment. All I can say is that a very little goes a long way! I cannot recall now which way to move the bracket for up or down. Suggest you put the car on ramps, very securely and move the bracket with the engine running...

basically in 3rd,4th or 5th gear if you floor it the ECU injects extra fuel for overtaking or short bursts of acceleration.it has nothing to do with turbo pressure as the name might suggest.only on the 1.6 HDi engines at the moment.

by memory the correct way to set it up is to depress pedel and measure from bottom of s/wheel to clutch pedal then do ameasurment with it fully up and works out the differnce !! anyhow i just set mine up so its above the brake pedal hieght and not had a bit of bother with it as doing it the correct way u just toch the pedal and it starts to...

The headlights on the early Xantia's, upto 1994 are well known for being bloody awful.
Theres 2 options, either get a pair of Xantia headlamps for the 1994 to 1998 models, or else install 100w bulbs in your existing ones with a suitable relay.
As far as I can recall the Xantia only has a green warning light for dip beam, and not one for...

Tim, these are classic suspension sphere symptoms. You will need to replace all six spheres but don't panic. If you are remotley handy with a spanner, and you dont actually need one, they are a diy change job.

Can't think of a good reason not to, I had a CX that I did with it including all the box sections cills etc took a good hard days work but it was the most rust free one I ever owned, then some B******d drove into it and seeing as they are only worth 4.5p that was it write off and goodbye

I am about to waxoil the underside of my 1998 Xantia 1.9 TD Hatch.
Anybody have any objections?
I have used waxoil on previous cars and think the sun shies out of its fundament, also use it on tools machinery iron gates etc.
Just wondered if there are any pitfals with applying it to the Xantia. (Obviously avoiding the exhaust system.)

My xantia behaved exactly the same after I bought it ,it was just a rusty/sticking rear height-corrector.
When you move the lever to normal the override mechanism will just not activate due to resistance in spring etc,but when you push it further,i.e. to next setting ,it will suddenly overcome this and raise the car normally

When my pump started dripping more than it used to I suspected that the rubber pipe had split. Not so! It turned out that the metal pipe from the pump (that the rubber pipe connects to) had become unbraised . In fact I could easily move it in and out. I sorted it with Screwfix polyurethane wood adhesive! If anyone's interested I'll let you know...

The Haynes BX manual is actually quite good - definitely worth more than the toilet paper its printed on - I'd sugget you get one, it covers this aspect quite well.

Got to the last stage of trying to remove engine but was stopped by the extremely rusty and rounded off exhaust flexible link bolts. It looks like a previous owner has had a go already. I think my XM is royally stuffed if I can't shift these bolts. Everything else is off the car and ready for the big lift. I would include photos but I'm not sure...

When my ZX td was making a funny noise I went to a gear box specialist. He told me that most manufactures now belive the oil should stay for the life of the box, but 60k to 72k was about right as most modern cars have the first 'BIG' service at this kind of milage, new cam belt etc. As for the oil I used GFS's gear box oil think it's 75w-80w GL5,...

The reverse is never syncronised, so will also be a bit crunchy to engage.
But as you have crunchy gear engaging in all gears, I would really suspect if the clutch releases as it should when you press the pedal.
It may simply be a quetion of a few turns on an adjuster nut - the right place
The pedal should have a stroke of at least 140mm to...

My Xantia 1.9td crunches the reverse gear once it is warmed up (okay when cold) until I can't bear the grinding noise and have to turn off the engine, engage reverse and start the engine again. The other gears can be a bit notchy as well. I have just recently started using Citroens and am still getting used to the limpish clutch and brake pedal...

To give yourself a chance for a sensible payback on your efforts - then all headbolts must be good.
If any smallish bit from the sheared bolt(s) protroding the block, then the vibration method is the best to get out the bit.

Yes, your ignition key should fit the isolator for the siren, turn it off by that. Stand looking at the engine bay, look to the top right hand corner and the keylock is covered by a plastic cap. Assuming yours is not a transponder system? Best of luck.

can not help you with the physics but I can confirm that most sensor problems emminate from the nearside front wheel as it gets the most abuse from kerbs etc. Make things simple by testing the resistance on all four sensors and eliminating the rogue resistence???

The ABS Light on my Vauxhall Monterey (Isuzu Trooper) comes on intermittently, usally after a turn has been made. Full left lock (followed by recycling) often cures it.

Ain't Mazda owned by Ford now A mate of mine did have years ago a Mazda 323 on 1985 'C' reg. Can remeber that some of the interior was the same as the old Ford escort form the same year. I have experienced the same thing.
I put it down to the xantia being then heavier car, and the fact that the xantia is also running the steering, brakes and suspension straight off the engine, the suspension has leak-back, and so the pump / regulator work hard to maintain the hydraulic pressure - and this aint free !

I am currently in the midst of resolving a suspension prob but I would also like to know can anyone shed some light on the fact that my xantia which has done 50 k returns approx 37 mpg and isnt anyway near as lively as my 405 pug with 150k and returning 45 mpg with the 1.9 td lump as well.

I had a similar problem on a BX which turned out to be the lower bearing which had slid down the shaft, tapping it back up solved it.

I have had Vredstein (sportrac?) tyres before and they are great, especially in the rain or snow. They seem to wear a little quicker though (could have been because I pushed a litte harder on them I guess).

When I first bought the xant i did a fluid change and against advice, swopped for straight LHM, When I checked 3 weeks later the new fluid was filthier than before it was changed , due the new stuff stirring the crap up a bit.

Have you any records on how old the glowplugs are ?
Usually they are on their last after some 60Kmiles.
They have huge influence on a diesel starting capability.
Except for the akward hidden plug under/behind the diesel rotopump, then replacing the glowplugs compares to DIY work replacing spark plugs.
