Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

My Xantia 110 hdi has a damping effect on the throttle. ie. the revs die down after the pedal returns.
I know the 1.9td had a physical sprung damper but there is not one on the HDi.
It is not the cable sticking.
So does the accelerator pedal position sensor have a slight delay?

Try Centreville Garage, Heaton, near the NEI Parsons (Rolls Royce?) factory.
Expensive but with a great reputation.
Typical costs at other indies might be three hours at £30/hour plus £30 for the belts(s)?

OMG
That is DEFINATELY a nasty problem !
Get a SET of new (recon) calipers. Your car would simply be too dangerous to drive if differently worn/aged brake calipers are fitted at front.

Ermmm, the title just about sums it up really. I've got an intermittent fault on my Xantia where I can hear the flasher relay working overtime (double speed) while I'm driving straight ahead. There are no visible signs from outside the car that anything is wrong - no indicators flashing hideously, or anything like that. So I'm street legal....

The chances are that it is not the gauge or sender unit but the voltage stabiliser, a small sealed box usually found somewhere on the instrument panel. The purpose of this unit is to slow down the movement of the gauge needle, as the float moves up and down with the movement of the fuel.
I'm not sure about BX's but most cars do have such a device.

Anyone ever had a go at fixing one of these?
My fuel gauge swings between empty and 3/4, I've just put £30 of diesel in so 3/4 is probably about right, but the bloody gauge just sort of flickers about for most of the time, sometime even on a straight road!
The sender unit in the BX appears to be a cannister arrangement with some sort of coil...

You lift the front of the squab (flat section) and it will pop forward slightly then lift it at the back so it sits against the front seats.
Then drop the seat back down flat.
I have to move the front seats forward to get the back down, not sure if it is the same on cars without leather.

My mother has just bought a xantia estate and is having trouble folding the rear seats flat.
The horizonal seat section is only only moving through 30 degrees.
Is there a catch she needs to pull/push to allow this to fold fully forwards?

what model & year is the van ? is the engine management light on ? it could possibly be in limp home mode,does the engine rev over 3,000 rpm ? is it smokey ?

I just bought a 2l HDI(van), and it only does 70-75mph in top, and about 60mph in 4th.Doesn't have much go either, and engine temp is a steady 70degrees

That 16V is surely worth the value - it's a former prize winner - exceptionally well maintained & tuned up.
It's been modified from injection to twin-carb.
Just the look down the engine bay is impressive - you wont find any like it
Hope any new owner will take well care of this rare car.

It is idiotic
Note that there are 2 variants according to trim level on various models :
1) the more common type with a push button switch up on the dash ( idiotic type )
2) the rare (luxury trim) type with controls on the RHS stalk. This type controls selective wipe / wash.

I'm only speculating, but says that
Too high an injection quantity in certain sub ranges (heavy acceleration) leading to increased fuel consumption and smoke emission and then to thermal engine damage.

I find that the GSA engine is easier to get out than a Dyane one, once you have taken the front off the car. Just stick beer crate (save half of the bottles) under it, take mounting bolts and bellhousing nuts off, wheel car back. Finish beer after you put it back.

Managed to find another one recently, bronze this time, guess what, In the middle of doing the clutch again.

Well Simon, it looks something like this

Not for the faint hearted, BX arm bearings are a walk in the park in comparison. Most people elect to fit a low mileage s/hand rear beam.
If Dave Burns drops by, I think he may have done this job?

I had fun with the Swindon Cit Dealer getting a part this week; came to the conclusion that if I had to cope with Seat, Rover, Jag, Citroen, Mazda parts I'd be confused too :)

After I welded up the boot floor and chassis legs, I decided to identify the cause of the problem. My suspicions were with the sunroof drains. However, using ye olde watering can method around the edge of the sunroof (when it was retracted) I found the the water was draining to the floor, as it should from the rear drains.

Yes it is Stempy, the (Hydractive) centre spheres are totally different as they get 'isolated' when the suspension switches over to 'firm' mode. Therefore the size of the hole is not that relevant.

Having just puchased a set of suspension spheres (but not acc or as) for the Xant I was having a look at them prior to fitting and they all seem to have very small (damping?) holes except for the centre rear which looks quite different. No special recommandations for standard/antisink/hydractive motion.
The idea is to keep alive the mecanical linkages by the Citaerobics, and to vent out any air (and gas from leaking spheres).
Once a month would be a good pointer.

Height corrector linkage is always the first place to look. The height correctors can be removed, stripped and cleaned. Links are available to instructions. Before doing this though, give the end of the height corrector a good squirt of oil and see if it can be made to free up. If not, then you'll be stripping them down.

Xantia 2.0HDi non-hydractive. Six spheres (5 + acc + as).
Operation: Rising from Lower position to normal.
Problem: Sometimes front rises right away, rear doesn't; other times is the rear not to rise.

- Going to max makes it go fully up.

Hydropneumatic suspension Citroens should feel pretty much like a standard car when you test the suspension like this :
Engine idle, suspension in normal height (handbrakes on).
Now jerk down each corner of the car by applying your weight. It should be easy to press down at least approx 1-2 front - and approx 2-3 rear.
Do not bounce - simply press...

If I am right, I think it is better to have cold air being drawn into the engine rather than hot, this is because there is more oxygen in cold air than hot.

Sharp rattling sound over low-speed rough surfaces, tending to lessen at speed?
Front roll-bar drop links. Bang on time at 95k, as that's when I did mine. Easy-ish to change - just cut them off with an angle grinder if you can't get the nuts off.

The sercurity of the car (door locks) as far as I'm aware are not part of the MOT. As for theoil leak should be OK as long as it's not p**ing out while the inspector is under the car poking about. The seat belt well that's an 'either way' offence I think.

my 1.9td Xantia is in for its MOT this afternoon.
it will fail on wiper blades and sidelight bulb, which can be replaced easy.
other problems suspectwed are, the drivers seat belt sometimes will not budge till im driving and hit the brakes? will this fail?
Oil leak, not major but you can notice looking at bottom of the car.

No lecky windows on the base model? how quaint. You'll have to wind them down. Have only ever driven one once, years ago but it was the TD model. Good load lugger I thoght. Same interior as my VTR. Good engine if looked after right. The milage is nothing really.

I have the chance to buy a no frills W reg Xsara 1.9d est. Body & silver paint excellent, drives well, no rattles or smoke etc & a good s/h. It has covered 142000 miles with a c/belt change at 120000 mls, 8 months mot. The dealer (friend) is asking £1900.00. Seems ok to me. Has any Forum member had dealings or know anything about this model that...

Hi, I would guess that your fathers BX power steering probaly needs a clean out. It's part of the hydrolics, so you willl have to drain the LHM tank and put Hydroflush in and run it through the system for a month or so. After doing that, drain and refill with LHM fluid and bleed the brakes too. You may have to do Citrobics on the car to clear any...

THE POWER STEERING ON THE OLD MAN'S BX has BECOME HEAVIER, two things
1. Is the XANTIA power steering lighter than the BX's
2. Why would power steering become less 'power assisted'. It's not BAD by any means.

hi i believe that you have to leave the radio switch on for about an hour until the readout flashes CODE then put in the code as normal.

1012 radio as fitted to 1996 AX. We know the code. We have the book and know how to enter the code.
But the radio displays 2222 and we can't get it to display CODE like the book says.
Weeks ago the battery was out, and there were a few attempts to put the code in without the book.
It ought to have reset by now. Tried disconnecting for a while...

I suspect you have a similar problem to me in that you have slightly worn struts and they get stuck high after you have parked – the creaking noise is a good indication. Mine got to the point of oscillating up and down every few seconds on occasions.

I have a 1997 xantia with air conditioning. When I got the car the blower motor had been isolated and ran off its own on/off switch. This is because the motor speed control was u/s. I've now replaced the speed control and need to wire the blower up to the original wiring. Problem is that I'm not sure which wire goes where. The motor has a set of 2...

Mate of mine E-bayed his years back saying it was rubbish. He reckond'd you got more info from a decent RDS radio in the car. Must say that was out in his Audi with the 'traffic master' sat in a 2 mile long que with the little display showing a fully clear road. An accident and 45 mins past befor it up dated.

This could be due to a number of things. Which injection system are you using?
Coils on these seem to break down. Does it feel as though it misses or does the performance just go flat? An ignition misfire at a given frequency seems to be unlikely so look for blocked breathers or loose pipes (Favourite guess. Ensure that the oil filler cap is tight...

Not so sure about my HDI, tends to run about 90 going to 95 if pushed hard, if towing it occasionaly does go above this, yet the ZX doesnt! That sits happily all day every day at 80 no matter what im doing to it....

Noticed a topic recently re Xantia temperature. The cocencus (if I remember rightly) was that a temp. of approx 75-80 was about right for a Xantia. I think that was a diesel.

I did the job on a Xantia hatch, GSF supplied the parts as a whole kit (SKF make) down to the last item. Its not worth buying just the bearings as you will more than likely bugger up the plastic spacer when removing the bearings.
I don't however know whether the estate requires a different kit.

Although my Xantia estate rises smoothly and silently, the rear wheels are beginning to get that sloping look. Maybe it's time for some new bearings. The catalogue shows a full repair kit for the BX, but for the Xantia estate they only list the bearings. What else is needed. Anybody done the job?

I swapped the ECUs' and the fault has now appeared on this one so it doesn't seem that my theory about the knock affecting was correct. Next I will try attaching an earth lead to the back plate and see if that makes any difference. After a 200 mile drive in heavy rain I find that water has got into the air intake of my Synergie 1.9TD. The air filter is damp in-part (not soaked). After many questions and searches I've finally bit the bullet, stuck it up on ramps and 10 mins later suspension reset.I marked the clamp and bar with tipex first so that I could set it back to the original setting if I screwed up.Thanks for the advice, glad I didn't give the main dealer the £50 they quoted.
