Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I have been wondering whether one could program a TV remote to operate the ZX plip using the code that is on the plip sensor?

I was wondering, is it possible to get a second hand plip for the zx eg from a scrap car, and re program it to work with my car without changing the sensor (so id have 2 plips, one as a spare)? I read on ebay earlier (for a 306)

Haven't done a zx before but a BX is pretty similar in most respects. Not the worst job in the world. Work methodicaly, don't force anything and you should have the dash out in about an hour and a half. Just make sure that you can detach the hoses before going in too deep. They can go brittle with age which can make the job a pain.

Spassiba Golan. It was interesting to read that some of California's diesel engines are more than 11 years old. In Glasgow there are buses twice that age which constantly break down. Somehow they seem to get through the annual test! Have you had any interest in the UK with this technique?

Sounds like your wastegate on the turbo has stuck. As you know the turbo is an exhaust driven air pump and the wastegate operates to limit the maximum output. The pressure in the induction system is communicated to the extra fuel device on the injection pump bu the thin rubber hose running from the front of the intercooler to the unit on the front...

If the car is under warranty - you have no choice other than pay yourself to let a local garage do it
It sounds to me the fuel lines are fitted incorrectly - like wrong size hose clamps not clamping all the perimeter of the hose on the studs or a similar problem.
I have the feeling it could be a question of only a few quids at your local diesel...

Just the other day as I waited in the local Cit dealership for my parts, I was thinking how cool the new Citroens are.
I reckon the Saxo/Xsara period was the worst as the cars were very bland. The new models, however, are great!

The manufacturers of the discs will claim that most roblems arecaused by careless fitting or excessively hard braking before the discs have been run in.
When fitting it is very important to make sure the hub face is very clean and free from rust etc. braking is supposed to be gentle for the first 250 miles.
Due to your Xantia having a fully pumped...

Tracking adjustment will not cause a shudder. Play anywhere in the steering, such as track rod ends, will, but it is more likely to be triggered when a wheel hits a pothole, than when you brake.
I would be inclined to check for play anywhere on the suspension, and check the front discs for run-out; you don't need much to cause a shudder...

Any ideas for a shudder on braking - front discs and pads are fine( I think!), although havent had back brakes checked for a while , tyres are newish wheels are balanced , Could it be tracking or track rod ends.
Also when going over uneven roads the wheels are all over the shop! shuddering etc.

Can anyone help me. The rear heated window on my zx 1.9td is not working.The fuse is ok, power is getting to the switch on the dash but not to the window, and I can not see any obvious breaks in the wire. I have a problem with my Citroen Xantia 20/16v 1995 speedo. As soon as I drive off it shoots up to 50 and stays there, regardless of what speed I do below 70mph. When I speed up from 70mph the speedo drops down from 50 to 0 the faster I go.

Tom,
My DTR used to eat wiper blades (not as fast as yours though!). I reckoned it was due to the windscreen being quite heavily scratched by the wiper blades. This has been borne out by our ZX which suffers the same. You can only really see the scratches at night (oncoming lights defract). The Xantia, which had a new screen about 20,000 miles...

I think this is quite normal behavior, when you apply full lock at low speed it does strange things to the suspension geometry, the height corrector tries to compensate and raises the front slightly. When you switch off, the anti-sink function prevents the car changing attitude until you start the engine again and eeh pump builds up enough...

Seeing as you change the gearbox oil every 50,000 miles or so, you might as well use the proper stuff. It's a tiny, tiny price to pay for the extra protection and peace of mind.

One morning my Xsara wouldn't start... It's a year 2000 1.6i petrol with AL4 transmission. The two transmission indicator lights (s) & (*) were blinking in the instrument panel indicating that there's a problem with the transmission ECU.
The mechanic at Citroen tried to establish communication with the transmission ECU but to no avail. the engine...

How are the wires identified, if like the xantia they have numbers printed on them, simply look at the wire numbers (or colours) going to that relay in the diagram, then look for a match going to any of the relays on the car, I used this method to find the rear window inhibiter relay on my xant.

May not be the case , your car could have been built in 92 and not registered untill 93.Check with your local branch, mine had a list of build dates for citroen's , can't remember how it worked though i think you need some numbers off the vin plate.Failing that take one off and take it with you if you can get to a branch.

Not got any experience with the GSF lowering springs, but did fit PI lowering springs to my Volcane with standard shocks once and it was terrible, lower but still fairly soft and would hit the bump stops easily.
Now have a full GMax kit fitted with uprated shocks and 35mm lowering springs which works so much better.
It does look better with even...

When I had my Xantia TD it idle just under 1000rpm on most days. Others it would drop down to about 800. I was told that this was due to a spring/damper that pushes the throttle back off.

My Xantia 1.9td (1994) ticks over at just a midges under 1000 rpm. It seems a little fast and does try and run away with you when stopping. What should it be set at? I tried to adjust the stop on the pump so the arm could return further but it didn't make any difference.

i am going to change the bumpers on my Aura to Volcane bumpers, but i need to know does the aura already have the wireing to take the fog lamps that are in the volcane front bumper? e.g plugs and all connections? i have got the dash switch from a scrap yard to turn them on. if not can i fit the wiring in myself or is it a citroen job?...

Yes perfectly normal. Actually I don't think its supposed to do that. Is this one of those much loved Bitron problems?
Whenever my fans come on when they're not supposed to be on, I give the brown plug on top of my thermostat housing a poke and that usually fixes it. You've got the HDI engine, so it is probably completely different from my 1.9 TD.

You should get by with a standard torque wrench. Bear in mind it should be pretty tight. Angle guages are not wildly expensive though. Loctite is as good as any.

Just about to embark on replacing my crankshaft pulley and have a question, in haynes, after turning to the specified torque when tightening back up, it says you then have to tighten it a further X degrees using an angle meter. is this second step necessary as I dont have one. Also , in terms of threadlock, what is the best one to use?

it spound to me like the siren has been turned off under the bonnet.
Have a look under the bonnet for a lock or a round black cap, the 'keyhole' will be under that, put your ignition key in and turn it clockwise, then try to set the alarm off, if it doesn't go off, turn the key counter clockwise and test it again.

Silly point - I suppose the hydraulic pump drive belt is sound and very tight?
Pinion valve tends to wear on one side first - so one side affected. FDV - well thats a different matter and should give priority to the steering. From my own experience and reading between the lines here when it fails generally the rest of the hydraulics suffer and...

Sounds like diodes to me. Could be zenner I suppose but probably doesn't make much difference as if you are intending to replace the control unit it will all come as one.
If you put a meter in it the voltage will be severely down if it is the diode - about 10 or 11 volts. You will probably find the indicators and the wipers are slow and the lights...

- cause it would not help with new plugs, air/oil filter etc - the usual tune up service items - and the valve clearance & ignition timing is always correct
He might try an offset on the cambelt

The brake pads won't make the stop light come on, and the lack of pressure (as you mention in your other message) won't prevent the engine from starting !
Whatever is preventing the engine from starting has nothing to do with the brakes.

Do a simple test :
Have engine idle - handbrakes on - suspension to LOWEST height.
Now check the click interval again.
I suspect it will go up in the minutes range.
If that is true - then the front suspension cylinders (struts) are leaking out the pressure in the overflow return rubber hoses (the 2 hoses seen on the strut inside wheel arch).

I have a rather strange problem with my '97 Xantia 1.9TD, the suspension works just fine, although it might benefit from some hydraflush.
The odd thing is every morning when I set off I find that the bit of plastic linking the H/c to the anti roll bar at the back has become disconnected , now I thought that it was just that road dirt had worn...

N62332 or N60132 would appear to be the front discs, you'll need a pair.
N64021 or N64036 would appear to be the front pads, you'll need one set.
The two discs are the same price, so only Jon will be able to tell us what the difference is, as for the pads, they'll be different manufacturers (hence the different prices).

crws, if you disable the internal sensors with the dash button, hold it in until the lamp glows steadily and then set the alarm, does it still play up? If not then the sensors have failed. Just didn't like being disconnected and they are old enough now to have failed.
If it still plays up then resetting everything by disconnecting the battery may...

Ive just fitted a new drivers mirror to my p reg xantia and now my alarm keeps going off. I had to strip alot of the wiring and door down to fit the mirror, but i have checked all cables and plugs and all are well. Isn't that the way the pedal should work (self adjusting or not)? Sitting on top of its travel? That's the way it works with them .... the pedal is always quite higher than the other. Just something to get used to!
The cable on the P-reg is always adjusting through the spring on the clutch itself! Its the way it is designed!
