Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Any turbo engine is a prime candidate for chipping and I'm sure with a quick search on the net you will find plenty of companies willing to do the job, either by replacing the chip or reprogamming it. You might want to fit an induction kit too.

Was the engine hot when you started idling? Was the bonnet up or bonnet down? What car? What engine? What did the temperature gauge say whilst this was happening?
If the engine was cold, it will take far more than 5 minutes of idling to get the fans to come on. With the bonnet up, I know my fan will only come on when the weather is hot, it seems...

You should be able to fit the 5 speeder from an AX 1.1 without modification, the clutch, cable etc are the same, you may have to use the gear link rods from the 1.1. Should all be straightforward stuff.

I was wondering if changing from a 4 speed box to a 5 speed is just a simple swap? I have a '93 ax debut (1 litre) and use it on the motorway often wanting to change into 5th to stop her screaming!

Red light? Glow plug light is orange with a coil of wire on it... Sounds like you might have wiring fault somewhere, but I don't know why there might be a connection with the temperature.

I have certainly thought about it as I am sure others have. Two litres of oil a week is a tremendous amount. When you consider the amount of 'green manure' crops and the fact that there would be less rotation involved it looks viable.

I think it seems like a good idea to use a bio-fuel, i.e. the carbon cycle is maintained etc but has anyone thought of where we would get our bio-diesel from if it went mass-market? The waste oil sector would be gone in a flash and it would then be down to growing the stuff specifically for bio-diesel.

So you can lock the car with the key in the door lock but not with the remote on the key fob? Is that what your saying. If so is the key fob battery new or need replacing?. As for the door not locking when shut this is the door telling the system that a door is open or on the latch so to speak. In the door it self the sensor / switch is around the...

This engine sets up with three 8 mm bolts about 80mm long, one locking the crank at the flywheel, one locking the camshaft sprocket and the third locks the pump. Everything is now aligned. The pump pulley has a hole in it for this and the pulley fits with a Woodruff key so the timing isn't the least bit tricky.

This is the oil level light - not to be confused with the oil pressure lamp.
Check your oil level half an hour after the engine has last run and on a LEVEL surface.
On my ZX the lamp can flash if the car is parked inclined to the drivers side.
If the oil pressure light (red) lights up - something expensive has occoured! Best to keep the level...

It's the brake pad wear warning light. Get the front pads checked - they will probably need changing since the light comes on when you brake. If it was just coming on randomly, it would probably just be a broken wire.

I have just replaced the head gasket on my 1 litre debut ('94) and noticed there vas very little wear on the cylinder bores etc. The gasket blew due to a non operative radiator fan switch which caused an overheat during the Mot emissions test.

Extract the PCB and check for breaks in the circuit tracks, especially where the switch pins sit - they have a habit of breaking off. A small soldering iron should be able to fix the problem. (you have checked the batteries of course?)

Rounded nut heads- an absolute horror!!!
Can you get a mole wrench clamped tightly on to the bolt-heads?
If so, some heat or penetrating fluid first may help: dont use WD40, its a lubricant, not an easing fluid. Plus-Gas works well.
The other alternative, if you have accsess to a Mig, is to weld a nut onto the rounded head, and this normally works...

I've tried removing the power steering pump and alternator to get access to the tensioner assembly, but the same story there. I'm out of ideas. Anyone got a solution?

Okay, managed to get the circuit board out by levering at the rubber mountings enough to give me some space. Pulled the PCB out and what a mess. Black everywhere where the arcing has occurred and which ultimately created the dry joint at the main power supply end. Fellas, I need some help.
Has anyone tried taking the heater fan rotor (plastic assembly) off the motor spindle? Can I actually do this?
After 24 months of resetting the blasted power lead (for all the problems previously outlined on here etc i.e. Citroens bizarre relay omission), the spade that takes the power supply lead has finally gone AWOL...

I would have thought your C5 was relatively new and wouldn't benefit from lubing its front struts. Struts only seem to benefit from lubing when they're worn / full of muck.

It'll always bounce around on max ride height - you've taken all the travel out of the suspension. Don't worry about that.
Unclear what your symptoms are at normal ride height. If you have it sat idling at normal ride height, then bounce on the corners, does it compress and bounce as you'd expect, or is one or more corners very stiff? If...

normally when they start to leak the core has started to rot, and i'm afraid its a swine of a job to replace, you can put some bars leaks in the system but this will probably just buy you some time.

My heater Matrix has a slow leak. Have to put 0.5-1 litre of coolant mix in every 2-3 weeks. Is there anything I can do to patch up the leak rather than get a garage to change it at vast expense?!

They are regular spheres, like the non HA, with differences in pressure/damper/volume, as you mention.

When it comes to the actual suspension spheres, apart from the obvious hydractive stuff (anti-sink & hydractive) is there any difference between the wheel (suspension) spheres on a hydractive and a standard Citroen suspension?

Yes, the DK5 can be readily boosted to about 150 - 170 hp by chip tuning. BUT . . . don't use it all for too long - the big restriction on this engine is the stupid air/water intercooler. Using all that power will cook the engine. Might be worth investing in some of RedLines water wetter - supposed to increase cooling effect by 20%.

I have found records of this engine being in the Peugeot 605 2.5TD, SRDT, ST & SVDT plus I think one of the vans.
I am just looking around in case the info comes in handy sometime.
Also the one I have has the Bosch VP36 electronic fuel injection.
Set up optimisation or can it be 're-chipped'?

You'll certainly run the battery down. Provided the belt ain't powering anything else you should be ok. Beware though if it stalls you may not be able to re-start it.

Hi all,
The alternator drive belt on my 1.9td snapped on the way home from work tonight (Can’t be bad at 188,000 miles). I just kept going as I knew it flew clean off and wasn't wrapped around anything.
Now, I hope this isn’t a stupid question, but would I be risking further damage if I drove it to a garage 17 miles away tomorrow ?

Ah, but you can't beat the sound of the old V8 3.5ltr burbling away up front. Diesel's good for all the other stuff but it wont ever completly replace the petrol engine. It's just diesels catching up with their big bothers in petrol. As for BMW have I missed something or are all the new models the ugliest cars ever to hit the modern road? Just...

The most recent BMW 2.0 Diesel engine boosts 163 bhp, but this engine will soon be obsolete and replace by an entirely new Twin-turbo version. The first model to incorporate this Twinturbo technology was the 3.0 liter of the series 5, that now has 272 bhp, 550 Nm!
Other brands, like Fiat and Opel, will soon have diesel engines using this...

Is it amberish and like a cyberman's head? If so, you have to drain the water/fuel out of the bottom of the filter unit. If the filter hasn't been replaced in a while it is worthwhile doing that too.

I don't have a Xantia but if it is like most French cars and the sidelight shines through the headlight unit there will be a pull out holder away from the central headlight connector. (couple of wires connected). You just pull it out and the bulb is exposed and ready to change. I have a link for the fuse set up if it is of any use -

Wouldn't it be better to remove the box off the engine so you can get it on the bench? On the gear boxes I've done I have always got them on the bench so as to be able to get to grips with them.

yes - sounds as though you are right. What seems to happen here is that the xantia puts a heavy load on the ignition switch contacts which eventually expire. Sometimes the contacts are adequate to pass a smaller current hence the sugestion of installing a relay but it may be that your switch is too far gone for this modification to work...

I followed all the steps, first checking all earth points in the battery area (removed all, cleaned and oiled)then set about fitting the relay...

not much help i know but it shouldnt do that, have a look at the lock mechanism- maybe something slowly falls back into place relocking it

Basically how does it work?
If I unlock the car via the remote, the boot opens by pushing the button, but if I leave the car open for a few minutes, I need to use the key to open it. This is quite irritating. The manual sheds no light on this - can any of you?

Get your battery charge system checked ASAP.
With engine idle the battery pole voltage should be max 14.4Volts. Should not raise with engine (alternator) rev'ed.
