Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

You can put any DIN standard stereo in a Xantia, once you've purchased an adaptor plate. IIRC, Halfrauds is the most expensive place for, followed by ebay; the cheapest is (apparently) Citroen! If you mean plugging an MP3 player into the existing stereo, the some units have a CD jack (line IN) on the front...don't know much more, though (like if...

It is quite common for the dirction indicator to start ticking at twice the normal rate (with the indicators switched off). This is due to leakage in the switch contacts, and can be fixed by replacing the switch, or by making a small modification inside the flsher relay.

Just put new Brembo discs on my Xsara from GSF. Great stopping now and the discs now have an easy to see wear guide on them. Two small dimples (for whant of a better word) on each disc, if you can see both disc ok, see only 1 time to start pricing up and thinking of replacement, see none and you need them doing right away. Very little cost but...

My Xantia TD used to do that - get it below about 1500 rpm on overrun and it would jerk away - solution was to change down to get the revs up. Never found out why it did it, but it never changed in the 40k I had it - including after I changed the cambelt, which did make the engine smoother and pull better from low revs.

There's a place just outside York selling biodiesel that I've used a few times now. I tend to roughly mix 50/50 petrodiesel with their fuel which, I think, is a methyl esther made from waste oil.
I've noticed the motor seems to run warmer on this stuff. This time of year it's unusual for the gauge to climb above 70 on the 8 mile run to work,...

Just bought a new heater blower resistor to get my blowers working. I started pulling everything apart and then i notice that the car has aircon.

All the Citroen ones I've come across use a specially shaped socket. (Including my 98 Xantia Exclusive and '04 C5 Exclusive.)

it seems having read pages on pages of the forum that thi fuel injection single point carb dont have a choke so i now must presume this is down to a temp sensor for the ecu but have no idea which sensor controls the extra flow of petrol into carb as thi may be problem also forgot to say my tail pipe on zx is sooty.

Hi Marty,
Does it have the leather interior? Perhaps someone changed the interior? Its quite easy to do. I had the 16v leather put in to my Volcane td, the heught and lumbar adjustemnt made the seat 'quit uncomfortable, perhaps the last owner swapped the front seats over.
With regards to the wheels, th 16v alloys are quite sought after as the are...

You Xantia should NOT be hard with new rear sphere's under it. By hard I mean, as hard as the car is with it on 'high'. If it still rides reasonably but isn't as good as you know it should be (ie: as hard as the car would be if in hard mode) then yes your center sphere is the problem.

This is apparently true, there is something that can grow in diesel. However, from what I've heard it normally only affects vehicles that have been parked up for years, or old diesel storage tanks that are never touched.
Just using your car and refilling the tank normally will prevent it.

The rear Xantia hub is the same construction as the rear BX hub.
I've been driving for approx 1/2 year with a bad rear wheel hub in one of my BX'es. The only consequence was a (very) annoying noise.
When I finally got to replace the hub, there only some play in the bearings. Nothing like the scaring scenareos.

Have a look at few other related heater leads in the last few days for instructions on how to remove the front.

There doesn't seem to be a point on the heater controls where i can get the air at a comfy temperature. Any one got a copy of the above?
My problem, when braking the back suspension drops after about 15 seconds and then resumes 10 seconds later.
It appears the braking system is taking pressure from the suspension similar to BX doseur problem.
Is the Xantia system similar?, hence the need for a pipe diagram.

Odd one. Sudden total 'box failure is rare, and normally accompanied by some horrible (expensive) sounds. Failure of the gear linkage usually makes the lever all wobbly. Faliure of the clutch usually affects the pedal action, and more often than not results in not being able to disengage the drive.

One will be the stop solenoid, the other most likely the fuel enrichment/advance cold start device, live 12volts when ignition on is most likely to work.

Hi,
Welcome to the world of Xantias!
I'm not sure about the 'humming' - it's not normal in my experience.
Could be a noisy wheel bearing perhaps, or the exhaust contacting the underpan slightly, otherwise there's not much to make a noise. Try jacking up the back and spinning each rear wheel.
As far as LHM level goes, did you check it with the car...

Might be the same fault as I had on a citroen van. The T piece in the pipe which splits the flow to the 2 jets has a one-way valve in it (I think it is to stop the water emptying back into the tank, so keeping the pipe full ready to squirt). Check this isn't blocked by unplugging it and blowing through it. I fixed ours by taking all the insides...

Is the engine temperature running correctly at about 80c? I've just replaced the engine thermostat in mine and its made one hell of a difference to the efficiency of the heater. Prior to this the engine temp stayed right down at 60c, and thus the cabin temperature was, at best cold! I cant believe the matrix would sludge up this quick, it's not...

Hi, I am getting the same symtoms that cost me £700 at a citroen dealer less than 2 years ago.
There is only luke warm air coming from the centre vents, all of the others are cold.

Sounds like the rear height corrector linkage has fallen off. When they get stiff this can happen.

Hi, and welcome to this forum.
It sounds as though the cable has become disconnected behind the control sliders. It is an easy task but one for a bright and dry day if you are working outside!
Remove the surround to the radio, two screws at the bottom in the ashtray opening and gently lift up from here unclipping the side and then rotate it upward...

Brake discs on modern cars don't last as well as they did on older cars because brake pads contain no asbestos and are more wearing on the discs. Discs now only last as long as 2 pairs of brake pads if that.

As for stating from cold get the battery checked, should be giving approx 14 volts to start, any lower on it's on the way out. The revs one is alittle more to sort out. Try a site search for rev's rising, throttle potentionmeter, MAP sensor, or idel control valve / stepper motor. All are not much to find around the engine. And check coils or coil...

Clutch judder is nearly always caused by a fault in or around the clutch - either broken springs, or oil contamination. It could be simply a worn / damaged engine mount.
At 126k your car is probably on its original clutch, and it's probably (over)due a change. Xantia TD clutch is no walk in the park - I costed the parts out and they came to about...

could be the acav vacumns. If you look at the engine where the inlet manifold bolts onto the head, there are 2 round plastic things with a small pipe going into them, one each side. They have a little rod coming out of them at the bottom. When you rev it these should move and it opens up the inner track on the inlet manifold and over 5000 they...

The XM auto has had a question mark over its reliability if I recall correctly.
I think that it has been known to blow its little microprocessed mind expensively.
Buy with extreme caution at 150k. Manuals are sound as far as I know and much as I like autos, I'd think a stickshift would give better peace of mind.

Usually an imperfection in either :
1) wheel rim
2) hub bearings
3) driveaxle / CV joint
4) brake disc
Be sure the mating faces on hub & disc are clean.
You know that new discs must be cleaned well before fitting - and again before fitting wheels (greasy fingerprints) ?
Jack up one wheel at a time.
Then start tracing the problem by finding spacers...

If it's right on the back of the wheel it will probably be the front strut leak off pipes - there should be two rubber pipes looping from the bottom of the strut to the body. Cheal to buy, but a bit of a git to fit because of the clip....
However, this is an Activa, so it could be coming out anywhere!

No easy solution to that I'm afraid.
Try get your local mechanic to look at it. It's not a dedicated Citroen problem, but a rather common problem to all car makes.
The boot door may have to be stripped down from inside to access the lock mechanism to open the door. And then the fault must be corrected.

The lock on the boot door on my 2000 Xantia Estate has been a bit interminant for a while now. While all the other doors would lock or unlock on a press of the key fob remote, the rear door would take maybe a couple presses or more to lock / unlock.

Where the parts are relatively high value, as here, I don't think that they would have a problem with it, especially as they won't be held up for parts. I'd let them source and supply the belt, though. I think that for such an engine critical part as this, they would be happier if you let...
