Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

It is not a battery drain light, it is a charge warning light. It does sound as if you have a feed to the switched supply even with the ignition off, but you have eliminated the switch, so prime suspects are those bits that handle both switched and unswitched supplies:

I am having a problem with the drivers side electric window mechanism. The plastic attachment which fits to the base of the window via a hole in the glass has broken, this has 1 ? cable attached to it? I also notice that one of the two cable from the winder is loose and not attached to anything? Although it appears intact. Haynes manual does not...

I dont have the estate but if !!!!!!!! its the same as the diesel hatchback then the fuel pump is on the drivers side and is accesable under the rear seat.
You remove the plastic blanking cover (EASY) then you see the top of the pump. Remove the electrical connections and secure with string etc else it will drop down on top of the fuel tank. You...

Ive heard that once engine is running, disconnecting the keypad disables the imobiliser, but not sure if it actually works having not tried it. Also, if you read the other post to do with the ignition system, the imobiliser wont stop the engine turning over, just cuts off the fuel supply.

The keypad won't actually prevent the engine turning over, it just stops fuel getting to the injector pump.
Its worth checking the earth strap to the engine. Can you hear the solenoid click when you turn the key ?

Sometimes when I switch the ignition on everything acts normal; I then enter in the security code into the keypad and get the green light. However when I try to turn the engine over nothing happens at all, it's totally dead. When I remove the key and repeat the procedure the keypad will automatically go green and the ignition still does nothing....

I've never got as good results with brazing as I have with welding. If it gets properly stuck again, you'll find that your huge head will be easy to knock off with a hammer.

My old BX TD is with Tom Sheppard. I too had the YWLD and this seems to have been caused by dodgy thermostat and fan cut in sensor. Possibly it caused hot spots on Cylinder Head which once sorted disappeared.All this was confused by a major water loss from the oil cooler pipe!
However, do check for bubbles, and also for rock hard top hose....

My Dad's solution to a socket not fitting would be to knock it on with a hammer, the hammer is his solution to a lot of problems. Often torx bolts get full of muck in the splines and gently knocking the torx bit in will displace this muck, before you start make sure you're using the right size of bit.

from what i can remember from my days as a citroen mechanic,the spheres had there pressure ratings stamped on them,gs/a fronts should have 50 or 55 stamped on the top and the rears have 40 stamped on them.i have fitted different spheres from other models before to improve the handling on BXs before.there are still people out ther who still...

make sure it goes into gear easily also if the pedal is heavy its a sign its worn and could break the clutch pedal clip, a pig of a job to change. probably need doing if it hasn't been done already at that sort of miles.

Its a common fault, fixes include welded repairs and additional support brackets on the Right hand side, when removing pedal box the clutch cable is a bit of a brute to refit.

I've noticed the accelerator pedal on my BX TZD has some sideways movement preventing the pedal bottoming out. The bracket holding the pedal pivot appears to be damaged. Can anyone please help with any tips in replacing the bracket or is it fairly straight forward.

Ok I admit to putting both my motors back together without the filters in the turbo lines, One was lost and the other one flew away, no problems so far.50k on one motor and 12 k on the other since losing the filters, I was told at the dealer that they come with the steel oil pipe if I really wanted one.

I have just been to try to get a new one of these after standing on mine , and according to the parts guy they are no longer available, and were not fitted to later models as after a high mileage they can block and cut off oil supply to the turbo (maybe if you never change the oil...) The engine sounds similar to the PAS relief valve when you have the steering on full lock.

When you visit the breakers for your Volcane axle get the shocks too. I believe they are shorter as well as being stiffer so you may kill two birds, AFAIK the Volcane rides lower than standard so will it need lowering more?

The rear spheres do not have any influence on the height - only on ride softness.
The ticking you mention ? - that should be no more frequent than approx 30sec's interval. Faster ticking (i.e. near constant) is a pointer to a flat main accumulator sphere - the one located down on front of engine block.
A flat main accu could well give problems...

Well it did after about a while. I have a 1.9 TD hatchback on an R plate and the back takes ages to come up. I think its the rear spheres but im not sure... any ideas.
it is ticking and the front comes up well. the rear suspension has been lumpy recently...

Does anyone know off-hand where the Xantia HDi oil level switch is? My warning light has started to develop a mind of its own in the cold weather, sometimes flashing at startup and sometimes not (despite there being plenty of oil) so I presume that either the switch is dicky or there's a loose wire.
All hints gratefull received. I tried a search...

Well, remove strut, dismantle the spring, dismantle the strut to get the shock out. Refitting is reverse of removal. Repeat other side. I'd be thinking along the lines of 4 hours, if nothing goes wrong (chance of that??). £200 ball park figure?

Well i ask u if i have gone mad because i have spent lots of money on my car. Since i bought my Car which is a Citroen ZX Aura TD 1993 reg at the time it had done 106,000 miles bought it for £900 cash. had the car now 16 months has now done 126,000 miles.

Should just be the ignition switch/electric barrel. I also believe it is possible to retain the original key lock barrel too. So not a major issue.
If you do have to change the key lock part then you can transfer the plip to the new key and keep the 'door' key with it on a standard ring.
Make sure you have the radio code, they will probably...

I have the famous fault of the ignition switch causing the fan blower and heated rear window not to work. I know it's the switch, I have the bottom of the shroud off and when I move the wire it springs back into life.
Does anyone know how much will have to be changed if I get a garage to fix it. Just the barrel, barrel + door locks, or the whole...

They seem to bolted together like every other euro box. Wings, valence etc all should just bolt on or bolt off.

I need to replace the backbox on my zx (something inside it has collapsed and is rattling about).
Does anyone happen to know of the bore size of the pipe going from the centre silencer to the backbox? I'd go out and measure it but it's a bit dark and wet outside right now lol.

Today while closing the boot cover,one of the plastic lugs broke off when cliping in the cover to the retainer.I`ve managed to fix it by screwing in a 40mm screw into it,which fits in the catch.Looking at it,it apeers that there is no way of replacing it as it is a all in one affair.Would have to replace the whole cover.Unless anyone knows...

This is probably down to air in the brake lines, give them a good bleed, when bleeding the rear brakes the suspension needs to be on maximum.
Check the LHM level is not low (especially while bleeding) and check the pump intake pipe for secure connections, this one of the points where the air gets in, check the pump for leaks at the shaft behind...

You are almost there . .
If you have removed the two torx screws hidden behind small plastic covers on the inside of the binnical, all you need to do it to give the upper edge of the binnical a sharp smack with the palm of your hand upwards/towards the windscreen - you have to hit it really hard, so don't be afraid. The tagged plastic retainers...

I've tried for 5 hours yesterday to get the dash apart to change the bulb for the fuel/temp gauge on the instrument panel in the binnacle. My Haynes manual that covers 98 to 89 clearly doesn't cover my 93 - its instructions actually show the series 2.

this is a common pipe to burst on a xantia,it will have burst around the small clamp that secures the pipe to the inner wing.it really needs to be repaired by somone who is familiar with citroens.the suspension runs at very high pressure!!.the pipe goes from the sphere on the drivers side,along the bulk head and connects under the black LHM tank...

1st of all make sure the clutch is adjusted ok,(if adjustable).if so the next easy step is to change the gearbox oil with the specified grade.if these two easy fixes dont sort it,the gearbox might need attention!

if the main stereo head unit is a standard unit and the cd changer is from another xantia it will fit!.depending on the age of the car the main cd changer cable is under the drivers seat,tucked under the carpet.you should be able to buy an adapter to join the to units together from a good I.C.E specialist

went to fit it to my 1998 estate and guess what? 8 pin square socket on end of cable and 13pin round on back of radio, nugger.......
Radio is a PU-15629A so when did they put a sutable radio in the Xantia and does anyone have one? or is their anyone out there that has an answer???...

About 6 months ago I bought a pair of sensors from Citroen main dealer for about £25.
I think the flashing lights when you replace the fust have nothing to do with Christmas and would probably go away if you reset your alarm either with your plip or by using the dash button (unlock, push dash alarm button, turn on ignition within 10 seconds).

That's a very likely scenario.
The rubber O-ring only prevents leaks when the valve is open (screw released) so should not really have any importance during normal run.
The ball bearing is a 7mm dia steel ball. Got to be exactly 7mm dia.
Bet your local bike shop would have one - or even your local Citroen dealer.
Never torque the release screw,...

hi i replaced the regulator behind the accumulator and everything worked fine then i discovered that i had a leak from the 12mm bleed screw so i removed this and refitted the rubber o-ring.
Now the stop light stays on(not reaching enough pressure)do you think that i may have lost the ball bearing that lives behind the screw or could there be...

The Haynes manual 97 to 00 covers all petrol models 1.4 up to 1.8 & diesel models 1.9 to 2.0, also covers turbo diesel. As a stop gap it covers the range for the interior as they are all the same really and some of the more techno stuff.

Oh .. i assume there should be 12V at the thick red wire going to the motor. I've checked this with the engine running and the blowers turned on and there is no voltage at all. Is this right? The rear demister works fine so i'm guessing the ingition switch is ok?

They need to have the correct bolt hole P.C.D (pitch circle diameter) not just four holes, and the correct centre hole size, the tyres must be of the correct size, load and speed rating for your car.
If they are genuine Citroen wheels they will very likely use flat head wheel bolts as opposed to tapered ones, if so make sure they come with them as...

I have been using Castrol GTD for a few thousand miles and have been using the gtd magnatec since last change, which, although it seems to be a gimmick, definately seems to have made it quieter on startup. The ECU temp sensor is also on the stat housing along side the temp guage sensor. £10.60 from Citroen main dealer. replaced mine in the summer made the car run a lot smoother. Ok the temp guage sensor has a blue plug with a grey or violet ring and the ECU sensor has a green plug with a yellow ring. Hope this helps. If you've got air con then the...

From what I can gather on reading posts to this forum, it seems that the temperature the ECU reads, is not the same as the one the temp gauge reads from. If this is the case, where is the sensor for the ECU? I understand the temp gauge sensor to be the green plug near the thermostat.
