Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Flush the rad by disconnecting top & bottom hoses (with much swearing and bruising of knuckles) then use garden hose and tap with reasonable pressure to back flush (bottom to top). You can flush top to bottom (oh remove the expansion hose too) but i always find more crud comes out by back flushing. (sometims much easier if you remove the rad to do...

I was horrified to see what came out of my cooling system when I topped up the anti-freeze. I was even more horrified when a quick flush cured the funny noise coming from my cambelt cover. The poor little water pump must have had its work cut out.
Anyway I think I ought to give it a proper flush and was wondering what would be the best way to go...

I took my ZX to a local Citroen specialist for a routine timing belt change.
Next day they called me telling me the car won't start.
It´s been almost a week and the car won' start. They say the marks have been aligned and all is according to the manual and still won't start. There is spark, there is injection pulse but there isn't compression....

Had the same problem with my '93 XM TD12, a clean out of the tank and filters plus Hydraincage in the hydraulic system for 5000 km cured it completely. it's the early type of XM with the FDV so almost identical to the BX - except when the power steering doesn't work you can hardly budge it at all - really alarmimg, but the front end is so much...

It keeps trying to catch me out by not having power steering (usually when I least suspect it) This happens when the car or indeed weather is cold, during the first mile or so of driving.
No other hydraulic isssue to report. LHM was changed for Total LHM plus and filters cleaned in September.
I'm guessing at a weak(ish)pump. I can't see...

There are 2 types of 19D engine in Xsara & berlingo, the XUD9 >1999 then the DW8 99>, the former is 1905cc and the latter 1868cc.
Both have steel blocks, and 8 valves. In both cases only the gearbox is removed to change the clutch, the engine stays in.

Start the engine from cold and with heater switched off, feel the pipes that go into and out of the matrix as the engine warms up, the water going through the pipes should heat them both up at pretty much the same rate, if they do then the likelyhood is that the flaps in the heater unit are not working properly.

I have another issue with the car. Basically, the cabin does not heat up very well. If i leave the fan off, and then turn it on, i get a blast of hot air, and then the air comming through cools down to just mildly warm.

Do a sight search for this . There was a thread not too long ago on just this suject. Personally I used the stuuf my local GSF branch had on display. Cheap for 5 ltrs but a good oil. Never had any problems.

I have had a vibration on the drivers side front wheel for few days now. it is very niticable when slowing down or braking. I jacked the car up and shuved it around abit. When held at 12 o clock and 6 o clock there is no play. But at 9 o clock and 3 o clock it is very wobbely. The suspension strut turns with it and the 1/2 shaft moves in and out...

Its more than likely that the radio was set to traffic info (TA), but the station being received did not support this function. To stop the beeping just turn the TA off.

Hi,
This just happened to me on my way home, and it happened the other day too. Randomly when the radio came on it just beeped fairly slow steady beeps. I changed the station to another one of the preset stations and it was fine and then when I put it back to the orignal one it worked fine.
The screen still shows all the normal stuff when I start...

Check the mountings for the engine and gearbox first, if they are ok you could try a new cable just incase the old one doesn't slide too well, but I suspect the actual problem may be with the clutch mechanism its self.

I'm having trouble getting a smooth take off in first gear. I can make it happen, but I have to release the clutch pedal SO smoothly. It's as if the spring is too strong and I'm fighting with the clutch pedal.
There seems to be no tolerance. You ever release the clutch pedal at the perfect rate or you feel the judder.

whatever you do DONT use the main wiring loom gromet,its right above the BSI & you definitely dont want water in there many taxi drivers/meter instalers have made the same mistake.might be better off drilling a new hole.

I fitted my new stepper motor today. Disconnected battery, fitted motor, re-connected battery. Still the same , jerking and although revs aren`t so high, it takes a bit of time to return to tickover.Damn . It`s the jerking that is sucking me off. Feels like the ignition is being turned off and on very quickly. Not making for a comfortable...

You have a decent Cit - as far as I am aware they do fall down unless running (driving along) at the time of loss of wheel.

I have this on our Zx and must get round to fixing it. You remove the lock from the inside - there is a forked retaining plate which is pushed sideways to release the lock. I used a lump of wood and a hammer to refit it and I think a pair of water pump pliers to remove it.
There is a plate with a spike which operated the catch when depressed. this...

The tailgate on my ZX Volcane (3 door, 1995) refused to open a few days ago. After releasing it from inside (not the easiest when you're 6'3 !) I saw that the plate on the inside of the lock with the releasing pin on it was no longer connected to the lock.

Hi if its at the rear its probably the strut seals ,I burst a strut by driving the car on high setting.They cost about 60 quid. but maybe new seals are available.easy enough to change if you can set the suspention on high ,,just to unscrew the sphere !!!! a little bit .check the search function on this forum . there are people out there better at...

My 1995 Xantia has sprung a leak on its suspension. In front of the sphere at the driver's side there is a black gator and the fluid seems to be coming out from behind there. I'm having trouble investigating as it's snowing here!

We are having exactly the same problem with a saxo and a Kenwood radio/CD have not cracked it yet but tommorrow going to RTFM may have to put a diode in series with the Back up wire

junked the orig stereo to put my kenwood mp3 head unit in all works ok apart from one prob
when u turn off ignition u have to enter kenwood codes again

Air in the system - seems an obvious thing to say but is most likely. Maybe the water dislodged or damaged a pipe.

I went through a lot of water in my citroen synergie 1.9 TD
after about half a mile it cut out. It will not run properly now. The diesel primer seems to suck itself inwards and not much diesel is present in the fuel filter, any ideas? also it smokes badly when it starts

Strangely enough my wife's Xantia HDi did this last week. She rang me up in a bit of a panic half way back from the supermarket to ask what she should do - I said to drive home slowly and I would check the levels when she got home (3 miles or so)Anyway, by the time she got home it had stopped, water levels and temp were OK and it hasn't done it...

Haynes BOL says The buzzer unit is located at the rear of the fusebox,and access can be obtained by removing the driver's footwell trim panel from the underside of the fascia,and reaching up behind the fusebox.The unit is a push fit in the panel,and can be identified by the slots in its cover .

My XTD is making a noise each time I turn the steering wheel. I have changed tie rods and some other bit. The steering improved but there is still some minor clunking coming from the steering. The mechanics here says that the steering rack need to be change.Can the steering rack be serviced. Need youe help guys.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, the front fog lights don't seem to work. Not a huge problem really, but the button inside the car lights up when I push it in but the lights don't come on. Dodgy bulbs? Or something else? I'll have to look into it, my girlfriend works at halfords so I can get her staff discount on stuff lol

Picked up my car yesterday and gave it a decent run tonight as I had to go over to Brighton. It took me a little bit to get used to the clutch etc but now I'm driving it pretty smoothly. It's a 1.9TD M reg. I do however have two problems....

Pump changes are not toooooooo frightening but first make sure the connections and seals are good. They run at very high pressures and a slight leak is quite possible from a failed seal or a loose connection.

Hi, i've recently bought a Xantia 1.9td that has 62000 miles on.I just found out the hydraulic pump is leaking on in and I was wondering if there was any way of servicing the pump or is the only option to buy a new one?
Ive also heard that there is more than one pump to fit the Xantia. Its a 1994 model - does one fit all or are there different...

Is this vibration there when the car is in motion only or when stpped with the engine running at 2500/3500 rpm?
If it is with the car in motion it may be a road wheel or drive shaft issue. If when vehicle stopped then it is possibly a misfire. Robin

I have noticed that recently I get vibrations through the gear stick (5 speed) on my Xantia. It occurs between around 2500 and 3500 rpm and on either side of that the vibrtion dies away. i havent used the diesel version as i dont have one! but as for the petrol one i have put a few tanks through the ol girl and found it did make a difference, a lot smoother reving and a bit quicker, but not enough imo to makew it worth wile for the extra cost!

Sorry, no. Not without breaking the trim that goes around the steering column. Follow the instructions carefully in your HBOL and all is well. Just be gentle with it and don't throw in the corner or on the back seat!! Robin

Andy. My guess is the HC has finally said enough is enough. It is the differing rates of rise across the car that puzzles.
Also check your trailing arm bearings are OK. Are the wheels upright when veiwed from behind? They should be | | and not / or \
A get out and get under job I suspect but please take precautions against suspension collapse.

They aren't wonderful tyre brands, but I wouldn't expect cheap tyres to lock wheels under normal braking you could have a snatchy brake. Have you checked your tyre pressures?
If your tyres aren't wearing incorrectly (check for feathering / non-uniform wear on shoulders etc) the suspension is most likely to be ok, it takes time for a slight...

My ZX has locked a wheel twice in two days, under normal braking.
I first wondered after it getting very upset in cornering, it may have a ball joint done or similar.
But after these lockups I turned my attention to the tyres.
I've not long (3-4 weeks) had a new set fitted all round:

You are not strictly speaking limited by Caliper manufacturer. Lucas, Brembo and others market components to fit equipment that they did not make themselves. So long as you have the accurate information regarding year, model and series if appropriate you should find the GSF offerings very suitable for conventional motoring use.

Dave, I would try and get a refund for the cable citroen gave you at first in error: You gave them the chassis number and all the other stuff they asked for, but still gave you a part which didn't fit your car. Hi,
Just as I got home one eve a few weeks ago, my indicators started flashing as if I had put hazards on, the headlamps were flashing on /off too. I pulled F17 fuse, all is now ok, apart from no alarm.(there is a faint glow still to be seen in alarm indicator red light).
The alarm ECU is NOT under front passenger side carpet, nor is the siren at...

You are going to have to take the front wheels off and have a look...you need to see how much material is left on the brake pads and how worn the discs are.
These cars wear their brake pads and discs out relatively quickly so its important that you look soon if you are getting metallic scraping sounds- have a look and let us know!

Only with the aid of a computer diagnostic tool or a citroen dealer. You'll also need the cars secuirty code to get into the programme keys function of the computer.
I got my secuirty code, general software update and key reprogrammed for £40.00 at a main dealer.

It should be at least 12.5V after a run, and should not significantly decay over a week or so. When the engine's running it should be about 14V, and this shouldn't change significantly with load as the alternator should compensate - if it is much lower or higher than this, the alternator is goosed. Yesterday i was at my local citroen garage getting some fiddly little clips for my fog lamps and headlights.
They'd actually ordered the wrong ones, so showed me this cracking piece of software that breaks down the BX into component form, right down to the little clips i wanted.
Anybody know if this or anything similar is available to the general...

When crawling along in traffic the car body is wobbling side to side and feels like the car is limping this is less than 10mph

As they are bolted on they are quite straight forward. First remove the under wing protection. As far as I remember you need to use a torx driver to undo the screw that hold the panel under the headlamp to the wing. You need to get at this this from under the wheel arch. When all the studs are out, the wing should come off with a little persuasion...

For what it's worth, and I may well be wrong! Up to L reg they were on the bonnet, M reg same size chevs were on the grill then facelift (R reg?) the grill became as one with the bonnet and got bigger chevrons. Perhaps the M reg you saw was a late registered L reg model? Can't explain your L reg with chevs on grill - not noticed one but will keep...

I'm a little confused looking at some pictures of xantias about... There seem to be two different styles at the front, one where the chevrons are part of the grill, and one where the chevrons are part of the bonnet and the grill is plain. I thought at first that it was an age thing, but then I saw an L reg (93/94) one with them in the grill...
