Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Mine has been in the system for about 2000 miles and I am about to refill with LHM, I may need to prime the pump, clean the filters again and bleed all the brakes but thats about it.

I intend to run some hydraflush through the system and plan on emptying the main resovoir, filling it with hydraflush, then bleed it through the pipes through the brake calipers. Is this the right way of doing it?

Right, the pump with part no. 4007 T 6 is for an XM series 2, 2.5TD engine type DK5ATE. No idea if it fits any Xantias since I havn't got the microfisches.

Connect an ammeter across the 2 terminals.
Turn on ignition, then turn on and off each circuit that is powered from F12.
One or more of the circuits will show a full deflection indicating a fault in that circuit.
Come back if you need more help.

Fuse 12 covers instruments, brake lights, reversing lights & air con according to haynes book of lies)Reversing lights still working.

Having driven nothing but diesels for the past twentyfive years my knowledge level of petrols is just a shade above nil. I think the canister you are referring to is the emisiion charcoal canister. If so, I would imagine that the loose end pipe should lead into the induction system. Look around the air filter box to see if there is a spare nozzle.

Sounds like you've got both. The primary reason seems to be air leakage. Check (change) hoses from bulkhead to filter/water separator. If the hose goes via the pre-heater on the left hand end of the cylinder head (seen from drivers seat), disconnect hoses to it and connect directly to filter. Lastly check hose from filter to pump, and leak off...

I had similar issue with mine, I used wd40 on the doors -where the lockers are- which was realy helpful, it does it couple of times per month now but I found out that waiting for 10 to 20 sec after I close the doors then using my keyfob to lock it is good as if it needs to settle..

Sounds like an air lock in the pump. Try priming it by removing main pump supply pipe and filling with LHM. Then start engine and as soon as it starts to 'pull' LHM through shove the pipe back on. This worked on my BX. Good luck.

I think this is about 28 MPG - too be honest about what I would expect for general use of a 1.6 BX and slightly better than I used to get out of my 1.7 Renault 21. This however would do 43 MPG on long fast runs and could be persuaded to do 48 when driven at about 55 MPH.

I have a 1991 1.6 bx and it takes 1l/10km, it has always been consuming that much and i thought it is normal, but a guy here said his bx is consuming a lot less (1/13) is it because the 1.9 bx's take less fuel?
BTW, when i bought the car it's carb. was a subaru one, and it still is, the last owner said he changed it to save on fuel....

Hi, I am pretty sure my cold start device is faulty - however, it seems to give me more power when the engine is warm, (I always did think that the car felt more powerful when lukewarm but before running temp had been reached). I can live with the higher idle speed; Will the advanced ignition timing cause any engine damage? If so, I'll get it...

I finally got a chance to look at the car and unscrewed the TDC sensor. I did all the work with the car warm.
1. I removed the TDC sensor and then started the car...no noise change, but rev counter dead.
2. Unplugged timing advance solenoid.....no noticable noise change
3. with above still uplugged, I then removed...

I've done it six times now 'in-situ', but then I do have the 'Peleides' sphere removal tool.
The mounting will move but it then reaches a certain point where it seems to wedge against something, give it a good shove! Try applying leverage then tapping either the side of the sphere or the handle of the tool to 'shock it'.

As it is mounted on the valve which in turn is held on flimsy bodywork, it makes it difficult to apply any leverage on the chain wrench.
It would appear I will have to remove the whole valve assembly and remove the sphere in the vice.

That would be a pretty standard water pump - cambelt driven as found on other PSA engine types.
Give GSF a call, be sure to have exact engine/model details handy to get the correct part/stock no.
The replacement job is almost exactly the same process as replacing the cambelt. If any doubt on condition - be sure to replace the cambelt and...

Do you have a 'dashboard' earth? I thought the loom was earthed through the main earth in the engine bay. How olds the ZX you've got?

I suspect the earthing on my ZX is deteriorating. Does anyone know where the dashboard earth point is?
Symptom is that the electric windows activate the central locking; the wiring diagram suggests they share an earth. I've lubed the window sliders and various points on the mechanism.

The intercooler was one of the (many) changes on turbo2 models.
In fact the diesel engine itself was modified on many points to ensure durability on the increased torque figure.
I think you can find the differences in the CX manuals you have downloaded.

Much as I enjoy driving the CX, the power to wait(!) ratio is inadequate. Sure it'll pull the skin off a rice pudding but the pudding will be cold!

Hi, The tacho is driven straight off a sensor on the fly wheel. The sensor is located, round the back of the gearbox, above the intermediate drive shaft. Its a black sensor, and is clamped in, you will need to go under the car jacked up securly and have a look ... Good luck, if you need any other help, shout!!

Always suspect gear oil level on stiff gearchanges.
Any oilwetted dirt where driveaxles enters the differential is a sure sign of gear oil leak.
You may try with a finger on any drops hanging down there : the smell of gear oil is very characteristic fish-like.

hi ive just had the same problem on my 20i lx xantia it turned out to be the front accumulator which i had to replace its accully leaking from the valve where the pipe your talking about leads to mine used to leave a pool of lhm fluid on the floor before i fixed it. you have to replace the complete unit becouse if you try and replace the valve on...

I have noticed that I have LHM leaking from a pipe which runs out of the right hand side of the front accumilator sphere (or there abouts). The thing is that checking the reservoir, there is not too much LHM left but the display on top of it is stuck at the very top (indicating that it's full). Might seem a silly question (probably is!) but can anyone give me a definitive anwer as to where the injection diagnostic socket is on my Xantia Dimension 1.8, 16v (1996)? I'm reasonably sure this has the Bosch MP5.1 ECU, and there are a number of loose connectors that could be the diag socket, question is, which one?

good to hear the BX is back on the road. Things have been really hectic my end and I never did get to your wife about the BX.
I think you'll find this one is outside our a DIY'ers capability unless you own the equipment to evacuate the system and re-fill it. It will not be cheap :(

Hi!!!
You have my commiserations Sir!!!! My Xantia's been stuck on the drive for three months with exactly this nonsense, made worse by the fact that my top bolt's mangled as well!!!
I'm not aware if there are any Torx sizes between T50 & T55 either - I'll endeavour to find out for you!!!!
My suggestion is if you do get it out, throw it away and...

Remove the radiator stand it on end (side) with the bottom hose stub uppermost and stick yer pipe in there, I usually shake em too and watch that clag run out, I position mine over the yard drain so as not to dye the concrete brown!

Fuse number F17(15amp) in the main fusebox below steering wheel.Thats the main power supply to the alarm.
There are 2 more fuses as well,but they also cover other things.F12(10amp)heating,a/c,c/control,hydractive,instruments,& alarm system & siren.

off a 16v which is 3 door only. Did wonder for a min if it was rossnunn selling on the ones I sold him a month ago but dont think so :D
Guess they would fit a 5 door but you will need to make up some kinda clips or glue them on somehow as only the 16v has the mounting bits underneath I believe

Deadlocking is there only to prevent the cabin doors being unlocked by lifting the standard locking button, therefore the boot will not have this facility, no point as there is no keyless method of unlocking it as there is with the cabin doors.

I removed mine with a hammer and punch, the spring loaded part is circular and about 4mm dia, it is this bit that should withdraw inwards when the key is turned
, that and the 8mm bolt is all that holds the lock in is all thats in your way, I merely smacked it with a small centrepunch and it went in far enough to remove the lock, next good news is...

Hi, my ignition switch key barrel is definately broken. I got the key in, but with a broken portion at the tip, after I pushed barrel broken pins in, but cannot turn the barrel.

All fuses OK? Could be that the thermo switch in the rad is duff. You can check for current with a multi meter see if any is passing through.

Once again there is a Xantia owner on here with loads of electrical gremlins which will inevitably resolve to two simply diagnosed faults.
Trouble is that it will take several attempts to find out what is wrong, owing to the lack of information that seems to go with the Xantia.

Sounds more like adjustment is required. The gearbox is warming up and the clutch is getting stiffer. I suggest that it is not disengaging fully. Try tightening the cable a fraction.

Hi all,
The clutch on my Xantia has not operated smoothly for the last month or so. I have greased the clutch pedal mount(pivot) and this has made a huge difference (but not fixed it completely.
What I have noticed is that now with the very cold weather setting in, when I start the car in the mornings the clutch is silky smooth and stays that way...

have they worked peviously?
are the switches lighting up?, it yes then they are getting power.
you could try one of the switches from the rear on the front wiring loom.
had a simlair problem with one of my rear windows, found out that the motor had got stuck, a little bit of pull! and hey presto, it worked.

I had a toyota carina doing the same , (done 240,000 mile 6 year old ) . I couldnt work out was going on , spoke to my dad , he suggested the spring in pressure cap on raditor had become weak . I changed the cap , tested all ok , Cost me about 6 pounds for new raditor cap.
I dont know if your citroen has the same , but if it has its worth a try....

Check the answer Alec got for his Xantia question. Otherwise you might have a worn attachment hole for the bottom ball joint - I assume you changed the fixing bolt?

Your idea of the EPIC injection pump is just a tad simplistic, sure the ECU decides when injection occurs as far as timing advance goes, and how much fuel is injected with regard to manifold pressure, but the physical adjustments are still made within the pump because this isn't a common rail system.
So initial timing will need to be set when...

My fuel pump went on the Xantia and as this the model with the fly by wire control, so no accelerator cable, I had a bit of a job finding one.
I have found one now though, had to buy another car to run around with till now, but anyway as far as I can see the pump is just there to keep the fuel flowing and the main ECU controls the injection.

the plug can stick on the back of the bulb & if you try to force it off it can damage the bulb holder.the best way to do it is to remove the headlamp for which the bumper has to be parially removed at the side of the lamp you want to remove.when you fit the new bulb put a light smear of grease on the plug & it will come off no problem next time...

I got a new dip headlamp bulb to replace a blown FNS bulb on my C5. What a kafuffle!!, no chance of getting my hand in the space when I tried, and Citroen say it costs about £65 to replace the bulb because of the labour in stripping down to get to it!
