Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

It depends on the type of engine fitted and possibly also the ORG number of the car. You should really download the microfiches from:

Yet again fate has intervened - just as I was thinking must get a look at the ZX's brakes we have a sinking pedal and fluid all over the back of a rear wheel So, drums off time (god knows when though!) - anybody know what size the hub nut is off hand in case I need to extend my tool kit

60 quid to have you cambelt covers fitted? I only know about the XUD engine, and maybe yours is something else, but the old style ones clip on, the new ones have 3 bolts. They can be pretty awkward to get to as there is usually bugger-all space but it's no more than a 20-minute job, and about a 3-minutes job if you have the clip-on sort and...

The knock sensor does not work that way. You may remove the knock sensor and never feel anything on the engine performance.
The knock sensor is fitted to lag the ignition somewhat under certain engine conditions, and this is decided by the ECU.
In fact you may never feel anything if the sensor contact or cable has failed.

Some time ago, someone mentioned a performance increase just by cleaning the contacts in knock sensor. I suspect mine has a faulty line, sometimes it feels very responsive and sometimes it has some lag before responding. My ZX is a '94 2.0 8 valve petrol.

I think that ZX seats will fit. Replaced the drivers on my old ZX TD and it was fairley easy to remove and replace. Paid £15 for two newer ones from a lad on this site.

the seats in my Citroen C15 van are wornout.
Has anyone got any experience of fitting seats from cars into these things. Are most Citroen and Peugeot front seat fittings the same or is it a case of trawling scrapyards for a decent pair of C15 seats? There is no shortage of 205, 309, 405 , AX, etc but most scrapped C15's are as worn out as mine.

Hi, when i move the suspension lever between different positions the car doesn't move smoothly between heights, for example it won't move when switching from the lowest level to the normal, i replaced the rear suspensions 3 weeks ago and it does it since then, i tried to move it between different levels few times but no difference, any ideas??...

Checked the plugs for oil fouling? Check all air ways/ breather pipes and clean. This time of year some short journeys can lead to salad cream like stuff bunging them up.

My 2002 (30k mile) C5 HDI 110 has a funny habit with the clutch. When the engine etc is cold, the clutch feels great. Nice smooth pedal travel and consistent biting point.
Once the car is warmed through, traffic jams become a nightmare. The pedal sometimes feels very light, biting point may become high or low (more commonly low).

The ticking from the indicator relay is down to a known problem with the switch, nothing to do with the relay.

It never rains but pours… just working through my list of Xantia problems and then this today !!!
Indicators, wipers or brake pedal cause some sort of shorting/switch off of those circuits and the dash battery warning light comes one. I can also hear what sounds like a relay, from foot well relay area, sound once and then nothing.

Hi, I can only offer some general ideas here. Not being familiar especially with the 1.9 in the Berlingo. Generally 'stuck' injectors only happen with contaminated fuel or if brand new they can distort if overtightened on assembly. I don't think is the case for yours though. I would consider making sure your fuel filters are sound and in deed even...

Have a berlingo with a 1.9 diesel engine, only 30k on the clock.
It broke down the other day but was repaired under warranty-one of the injectors was Stuck up (Garages term, not mine). I assume this to mean that the internal mechanism was stuck in the 'up' position, rather than it was clogged?)

I BOUGHT A XANTIA WHERE SOMEONE HAD PUT A STORAGE BIN IN THE CENTRE WHICH OPENS UP AND DOUBLES AS AN ARMREST.
O.K. IT COVERS THE REAR WINDOW SWITCHES BUT I HAD YOUNG KIDS AND IT STOPPED THEM MESSING.

You should just need a new pipe seal- its probably leaking because its been overtightened in the past.
They cost pennies -check the size of the pipe and then go to the online shop.
Depressurise the system, undo the joint, and the old one may come out with the pipe or you may need to winkle it with a pin-when you tighten it its dainty fingers...

I have found the leak that I was ranting about earlier and thought I would post a pic seeing as most mechanics can't visualise the part by my description.

I've made enquiries in that department many times with suitable equipment suppliers without success.

So I take it my 98/99 Xantia Activa will have one.
Therefore is it possible to investigate more than on a normal Xantia, and check out the electronic control unit on an Activa ?
I am refering to the specific seperate E.C.U. which controls the Activa anti roll system.

Xantias have 2 horns, one lives in the left had side front wheel arch, where it gets covered in spray and dirt and rusts away. I think its underneath the wheel arch liner.
The second horn is under the front bumper I believe.

Finally able to get under the car this weekend to examine and fix the problem (ref post 6 Jan)
Both cables had snapped, one in the middle, the other, the end hand come off. Now replaced, no more wooden chocks.
Curiously the handbrake light started working on its own last week(pity the cables hadn't) so left well alone (hands were frozen by now...

Having looked at the GSF parts list I can only see one listing for Xantia front strut (93 – 01) which probably answers my question, but I thought I’d run it past you guys first!
Is the F strut spec/design the same for a 97 (2.0 VSX) that I’d like to use on a 95 (2.0 VSX)? - or am I missing something obvious?

I have a 2000 MY berlingo 1.4 in which the rev counter has given up, which is no real hardship. However the dash electrics have now started acting up, when the ignition is off the dash background lights come on and the speedo starts 'clicking' and bouncing up and down from 0 - 10 mph. Ultimately this drains the battery and it is becoming a real...

the headlight flashes?do you mean the actual headlight or the dashlight for the headlights? dont think falt battery could cause the headlight to flash unless the relay is mullered.
then again i coudl be totally wrong but it seems two might not be related.

i have a xantia 1.9 diesel turbo. 1995. I recently misfuelled it, the battery then went flat. Re-charged it but then a red light keeps flashing and external left headlight flashes too.
This of course keeps re-draining the battery. My keyfob thing stopped working so i dont know if that could stop it - i cant see a keypad so i dont think its code...

Then it is the alarm that is packing up.
Could well be related to the key. Often the alarm can be made to behave by flipping it on-off a couple of times.

Recently i made the blunder of misfueling. During the time it was left standing the battery went flat. When i re-charged it a little flashing red light goes on, which i think doubles as the interior heat warning light (according to Haynes manual) AND the left exterior main light flashes on/off. When fully charged i can drive it and this goes off....

As a matter of interest why do you want to replace it? You are talking of spending £1000 which will buy you loads of repairs. When you buy your next car you will be anxious to know what its history has bee to try and judge if it will go wrong immediately - you already know yours. - so if you want the same sort of thing - whats the point?

I have been driving a Xantia Estate, 1997 petrol 2l version, since last February. Its been a dream and was only £1400. Cheapest year's motoring I have ever had. Would have been even better if I hadn't had to shell out on a new clutch but it had 97,000 miles on the clock when I bought it so I can't complain.

The pipe you show is on the extra fuel device on the pump, the purpose of which is to increase the fuelling in response to boost pressure. Without it the engine gets no benefit from the boost as the turbo is simply pumping loads of air into the engine and the fuel is the same as for no boost.

Where does the connection to the boost input on top of the injection pump come from (XUD9TE engine, bosch pump)? Anywhere in the pipe between the turbo output and the intercooler, or the intercooler and the inlet manifold, or before the turbo (I presume not).

When i went from NA to TD i initially had a problem with the exhaust as i couldnt get nything to fit, until someone on here (probably Jon) pointed out that all i needed was a TD down pipe. Being this was on a BX i went and bought myself a 1.7TD down pipe (Bosal £15 ish) and took it home on the bus and it fitted perfect first time no bother. Id...

Mostly I have discovered that there are only a few ancilliary items on the whole engine the same when moving from an expert NA to Xantia-sourced TD. Nearly everything is different. Only the oil filler, oil cooler/filter, flywheel, rear water nexus, and crank cog/pulley are the same....

My Xantia has done that since I changed it's fluid and cleaned the filters. I'm sure it's the top gasket of the reseviour but have never pulled it apart to find out why.
One day I will find the time and let you know (if no-one else does in the mean time).

i have a 97 xantia with anti-sink,when i turn the engine off after a few minutes the rear of the car drops,the car has had front and rear spheres,accumulator sphere,but no antisink sphere .could it be that and how hard is it to replace

I'd check the ignition module first; and see if it sparks, the coils generally break down under heat/load.

Make sure the rubber grommit is in the correct place otherwise its very difficult to get the clip on.
You have to squeeze the rubber grommit to get the black plastic square on, it takes a lot of finger strength and the access isnt good.

Any tips on how to get the circlip fitted to the lifting arm on a Xantia electric window mechanism? I have everything fitted but cannot get the plastic lifter far enough through the glass to fit the locking clip. Anyone done this before and knows how? I wont use the main dealer as they are charging £70 an hour labour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to be fair to citroens i had an escort mk5 burst a front brake hose, a montego lose the brake master cylinder seals and a carlton lose the vacuum from the brake servo, every time i was left in a situation with very little brakes and no warning. My BX used to have the stupid little plastic hoses for the lhm that would come apart vomiting lhm...

Hi all,
Xantia has started playing up. The front works fine but the back either sits right down as far it'll go, or right up as far as it'll go. It doesn't seem to want to stay at normal height.

If you measure the battery voltage with the car off..say 12.8 volts, then every glow plug drops this voltage by 0.25 v when the plugs are on preheat. So your voltage should read 11.8 v and then rise to about 12.3 after the relay times out. If one of your plugs is faulty, this change is measurable by this method and is very reliable. May be the grommets have melted due to contamination with some fluid? You know like latex gloves fall off in shreds when they get covered in thinners.
The solution is probably just renew the cable.

hmmm well i just got recovered home with a strange little problem....driving over the dartford bridge the throttle pedal went to the floor and the car started to slow down.

Jus had a problem with the rear suspension on my Xantia 2.1 td R reg After doing a quick search on here I checked the plastic clip on the roll bar which had indeed come off.
I refitted it which sorted thing out but after just 5 or 6 miles it's come off again.

You can find specifications somewhere on this website
Activa uses equal suspension spheres as hydractive models (VSX, Exclusive) + two additional accumulator type spheres for anti-sway system - multilayer 450 ccm 45 bar front corner spheres, 400 ccm 30 bar rear (not sure whether it's 40 bar for estate or not) etc.

You appear to have sticking height correctors, you could try spraying them with WD40, which involves getting underneath the car. They are in the centre of each axle.
The other thing to consider is when was the LHM fluid changed and if it hasn't been done recently what is the fluid now like?
It may well be worth changing the LHM for a flushing...

I think its the standard press the button and hold it till the radio station can be heard. ie tune to the frequency you want then press and hold the prset you want to tune it and wait until the sattion can be heard and it should be preset. hope this helps

The front guards and rear quarter panels are different, they have a cut out/indentaction in them for the plastic bumpers (so they can wrap around).
Nothing is impossible, but I imagine there would be considerable work involved in trying to fit series I bumpers to a later car.

not a full list but of the top of my head, a high and/or heavy clutch would probably mean you would be replacing it soon, check for a blown head gasket carefully as, if overheated, they tend to blow them. Make sure the car will adjust to each height properly and doesnt vomit lhm doing it. The handbrake cables are prone to stretching so check the...

The damn thing is siezed solid. As you can imagine I cant check the LHM level and I am in schtuck if I get a rear puncture.
