Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

It's not your TP Alex.
If the TP is faulty, it will make for strange idle revs if you leave the acc pedal. It's like the car gets a mind of it's own.
The TP wears out in the carbon tracks, and this causes unexpected behaviour when the slider is exactly over a worn out position.
It can be tried during drive by sloooowly accelerating. Then suddenly...

Disc or drum? usually a good clean, if disc remove piston, clean bore refit bleed and bob is yer uncle, if drum as long as its not leaking then strip linings, clean everything de-dust and refit, it cannot be the pressure limiter if its okay the other side.

When i bought my first CX I also bought Cits official workshop manual and scared my self witless, more special tools were required than you could fit into the back of a CX estate . The one that got me was the special slide hammer and adapter for removing driveshafts from the gearbox, I asked at the local garage they said it was not available to...

Depends which side!!
If its the RHS driveshaft that runs through a support bearing and can be a bugger to get out! The LHS driveshaft is far easier to remove.
Drain the gearbox first!
You will have to remove the offending driveshaft to change the seal.Haynes book-o-lies details the shaft removal and refitting.

Try turning on the ignition without starting the car and then leave it like that for at least 30 minutes. This should reset the code to 1111 which you then need to enter before starting.

Rule of thumb for safety :
Always have equal tyres on same axle. This includes make, type, wear, and inflation.
Meaning : get a new tyre for the other side too.
ALWAYS - I repeat : ALWAYS put the best pair of tyres on the rear axle.
Then I suggest you get the front control arm bushes checked out.

It cost me £70 to do my disks & pads,& about 40 mins to do the whole lot,so i would`nt say its anymore than an hours labour cost.Adjusting the handbrake is quick & easy too.Maybe a bit too much?

There have been quite a few postings on this subject - try out the search facility.
Mine is a 97 19TD with 140K on the clock. I reckon to get 500+ miles from the 65l tank on a mixture of A road and heavy traffic commuting 60 miles a day. That's somewhere around 40 mpg.

Follow up report :
Ok, I found out (Haynes & the forum) there is a resistor pack seperate from the motor.
Thing is, with the dash in pieces as far as I'm willing to go at the moment[V, the resistor pack appears to be seperate from the car!!
I follow the wiring loom, then it takes a turn into the unknown, then re-appears with 5 more wires, etc....

My pipe was going at the same point, and it eventually broke. The metal was too thin to contemplate any welding, welding is ONLY EVER a temporary repair on an exhaust, once its to the point that it has rotted through at one point the rest of the pipe is never far behind. Mine had pin holes at the two bends which I got my Dad to have a go at...

My exhaust ( 1.9td Xantia ) had a gaping hole where the downpipe turns and enters the cat. As the MOT was due I got a few qoutes, £400 from National Tyres ! for front section, £250 at Carcraft Rochdale, £160ish from GSF but they had two in Birmingham and needed a day to get it to Manchester,...

Hi Ohms 69,
From memory, you can get a mini hack saw in the gap, cut off at screwed connector just below the hex, the strut can then be removed.
Then use a vice on the bench to hold the projecting thread of the connector, and gently work the connector out using anti and clock rotations, worked for me.
That's assuming the ali part of the strut has...

To see whether your car has a Lambda sensor follow the exhaust from the manifold along the downpipe to the first joint. If a Lambda sensor is fitted it is always on the downpipe, you are looking for a wire attached to a long tall connector.
As far as a cheap code reader is concerned, yes they are no more than a 'gloryfied' paper clip with an LED....

After a bit of research, i think my car might be using a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, rather than the mass air flow( MAF) sensor that i am used to, seems a strange way of metering to me, but i suppose its cheaper than a maf sensor,
I might just get one and see if it fixes it, they cant be too expensive

Hello Jon.The local branch of GSF (Bristol.) sells a XHD 20/50 made by Morris could you please tell me if it is possable to order different grades through GSF? For example 85/140 gear oil. 15/50 engine oil.(diesel) 15/40 engine oil etc.

Hi Mickey,
I sorted my flip out like this. Put your key into igition switch and turn on. Put plip right up to red dome in roof lining, by int. mirror. Press until your hear/feel a click , up to 12 times. Switch off ignition, and aim plip at dome, click it and it should work, ie lock/unlock doors. It works for me everytime. Obviously batteries...

How old is your xantia - ie does it have the 2 outlet pump and no flow divider valve or the single and flow diverter valve?
regulators themselves don't generally leak, normally ots one of the pipes going into it or the sphere seal. If made properly none of these joints should leak byt sometimes they do.

Hi
Behind the passenger side headlamp is the aircon dryer bottle, Its a big black cylinder with a sight glass on the top.
On top of this is the pressure safety switch, A brown connector plug with 4 wires.
Unplug this brown connector plug & using a paperclip or similar you short pins 1 & 2 together.
Turn the ignition on only, DONT START THE ENGINE,...

Have just given car a 20 mile run and:-
Engine temp gauge does not go over 75. However the Fans are going , top hose and temp switch on radiator very hot but 90% of radiator cold , bottom rad hose just warm. No heat from heater.
What is wrong is it Radiator, airblock, matrix ????????

My Xantia's cambelt needs changing. I bought a replacement 3 months ago, and still haven't found time to fit it! Can anyone recommend a garage near Shrewsbury who will do it cheaply? Best price so far is £90.00 all in - not bad, but there might be somewhere chaeper.

Nope. The BX uses LHM fluid, the Pug uses normal brake fluid. Also the GTi calipers are not 4 pot. Do a search as I remember someone using Pug 306 bits.

I've got a Peugeot 205 GTi and want to upgrade the brake calipers. Someone told me that the BX Gti has 4 pots that will fit.

Up on the BX. You have to prop the bonnet well back though.
When do you plan doing it? I might drive up.

The engine and box need to come out of the red BX shortly, do they lift out or drop out the bottom? I did the 205 last year and dropped it down. I'd prefer to lift out so I don't have to disturb the hydraulics under the gearbox, is it possible?

If I were you I'd flush the cooling system thoroughly after you've changed the matrix.
Leak stoppers are notorious for causing clogged cooling systems e.g. matrices / radiators etc.

Take the new radio to your local motor parts store (and I suppose the old one as well). I got one for the ZX from a small local motor parts store (not in a big town either). Ask to see the ones available - the right one is quite obvious when they're in front of you. I think mine was about £3 - you'll probably pay over the odds at Halfords.

Check simple things : coolant level.
Check that the rad fans are coming on !
Within a few minutes from cold, an idling engine should reach normal working temperature, and then the fan(s) should come on-off at lo speed to maintain the correct working temperature.
If the fans instead comes on-off at high speed you have a faulty rad thermoswitch...

Run below 3000rpm it runs at 80 degrees. Increase the revs above 3500 and it rises steadily to approaching 100 degrees and eventually warning light comes on. Higher revs faster temp rises. Drop revs and temp comes down within few minutes.

The caliper does not simply 'push back', it has to be screwed back in a clockwise direction using a suitable tool and against the slots in the piston face. There are many references to screwing back the calipers within this forum. It is not necessary to remove the caliper to do this - although its easier if yoiu remove the handbrake cable, then...

Hi, I had a water leak at the back of the engine on my Xantia TD. Got it up on the ramps, left it running for a while and found the water hose 'T' that runs from the matrix to the engine and branches off to the expansion tank had split on the joint.Wear rubber gloves and move the tee joint so it leaks if its split. I got a piece of 22mm copper...

This was an XM trick apparently, that was passed on to the Xantia.
I have heard in the past of it also happening to BXs mainly in Malaysia where they have high humidity, high temps and high rainfall all enhanced by pretty crook roads and the mixture creates havoc.
Double Chevron has made up a mod for his Xantia that at least stops the strut top...

When I went to see my Mechanic friend he had a N reg 1.9TD Xantia on the ramp that had rusted through the mouning collor for the drivers side suspension leg sending the leg, complete upwards and serverly damaging the bonnet (as you'd expect) it also damaged the fluid lines, so the Xant only rose one the nearside.

Unless the XM is opposite the systems on engines in other Citroens ...
- THEN a disrupted CTS would tell the ECU that the engine is arctic cold and therefore give full choke .
If the cabling to the sensor is shorted out (or possibly earthed) the ECU takes this as hot engine and shuts down choke .
The sensor itself is a NTC type resistor element,...

I ran the car today with the temp sensor unplugged and i think it now assumes that the car is hot !
When i first started it today with it unplugged it was showing sympmtoms of no 'choke' (low tickover & needing to be revved to keep it going).
