Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

possibly if the piston has been abused,the self adjusting mechanism at the back of the caliper is damaged!
if the hand brake cable is free etc,i would be tempted to buy a new/2nd hand caliper.
the the brake is sticking slightly the brakes will start to overheat and possibly cause the disc to warp,more expense!!

changed the pads on sunday and since then my nearside brakes are not releasing, if i give the caliper a belt with hammer it releases,

I left flush in for a couple of months and it did seem to make things more fluid, when the boot was loaded afterwards for example you didn't notice it height correcting as it moves very smooth now.

A few companies do Xantia body kits but they're pretty rare, the Xantia doesn't have a big following in the modding community.
The pipework on Xantia hydraulics is all low bore and the pump has a minutely small output so its not really suitable for making the car jump etc. which I assume is what you want it to do.

Someone was selling 3 on Ebay the other day. Said they are for series 1 but Jon says fit all except ABS cars - otherwise I might have acquired them.
If you search you will find instructions on here for fitting them. How much you have to remove is open to opinion and some say it helps to drop the rear subframe a bit to get clearance.

Mine did that for a while after I'd changed the LHM and cleaned the tank etc. I had overfilled the tank a bit and once it came down to a more normal level it stopped doing it.

As it says, from the top of the reservoir where the all the pipes go in, there is a round removable access panel with a rubber seal round it, it appears to be leaking from there, not a lot but there is a small puddle of LHM collecting on the top of the reservoir, cant notice much difference in the fluid level, its just that i dont like to see it...

As far as im aware, the code can only begin with a 1 or a zero. you enter the code with the 4 buttons and press and hold the up arrow to validate the code.
If its a newer model with RDS, the its the same procedure, just the first number can be 0 - 9.
New units come up with code on the display to enter the code, old units come up with COD on the...

I've only had a 19TGD myself which was far from slow - 80mph five up with camping gear was a nice cruise. It will definitely be slower than your GTi though!

Thats what I did on my BX TD as it seemed easiest and I was too mean to buy another load of antifreeze just for the fun of it.

As far as I know the tank works pretty much like the BX one, only its square and plastic rather than round and metal!!
All the pipes go into a big plastic plug/plate in the middle of the tank which should just lift out with all the pipes and filters still attached.

make sure you change the oil and filters every 6k and you should be fine for 200k engine wise... im currently on 148k.
Also make sure the cooling system is is good condition.

Does anyone know you to remove the standard fit stereo from a 1995 AX. Its the shaped to the dash one as per most low spec mkII's.
Haynes says there is a slot for a special tool, I can't find a slot anywhere.

I've just had fantastic service from Hamworthy Body repair Shop just outside Poole Dorset. I drove up from Devon because a discussion group member said they'd done a good repair. It was worth the time and travel -- all fixed in 40 minutes by a helpful team at less than they'd estimated.
I was glad that no-one had damaged the hinge pins star shaped...

If it's two sizes and providing it's long enough, I have used a piece of stainless exhaust piping of the smaller of the sizes and had it swaged at one end, then got two hoses of the correct size & joined them in the middle.
Mind you I live several hundred klms from the nearest Cit dealer so desperate situations require desperate solutions.

ive just noticed today that on the top of the diesel pump on my 94 1.9d xantia is leaking around the top of the accelerator lever on the pump does this mean i need a new pump or is there any seals there wich i can replace myself as i have noticed the top of the pump can be removed
any advice will

The rev limiter on the diesels is around 5100 rpm, but the rev limiting is done by a governer so power fades noticeable from 4500 rpm onwards, there is no hard limiter.

Just wondering if anyone knows how (in)accurate the speedometer is on the ZX because I have seen 112Mph on the clock (downhill on the M1 ) I know that the claimed max. speed is about 97Mph. I very much doubt I was really going as fast as the speedo says...

The turbo gasket is a ball joint and tends to have a lot of movement on it so it wears it also has to tolerate manufacturing tolerances in the exhaust pipes and will have worn to fit the old pipe.
It is best to replace it, I did one exhaust where I didn't replace it and it leaked around the joint so it had to be done in the end. The second...

Had the same problem on my driver sider door, and yes the cable had fallen out so i glued it back in! The door cards are very simple to take off and put back on, the window winder (if you have one) will just pull off. also be careful with the door locks as the retaining clip is easy to reak!

Passenger side central locking unit packed up on a ZX TD, just after an opinion, cabling, or soleniod, do not want to strip the door then need the part afterwards ;-) just stopped working one day that makes me suspect a wire fell off, or is this how they usually fail?

The best place is probably GSF... generally they're the best on price.

After a close inspection of the filters in the LHM tank I found them to be rather dirty,so will need to get them cleaned and tank filled with new LHM.
I would start with Hydraflush ,but the LHM looks very clean and because I don`t do a high mileage in this car I don`t want to have hydraflush in it if/when I dispose of the car.

Are your fans running when this light comes on? If they are have a play about with the connector on the brown sensor on the thermostat housing if you have one. One mine the connector was a bit corroded so I'd get the stop light and coolant temp light even though the temperature gauge was reading the correct temperature. The blue sensor operates...

Is there room for a 3 legged 'spider' remover? Possibly the best £10 i've ever spent on a tool. It looks like a claw which fits a 3/8 driver and tightens round the filter, grips it and un-does it at the same time.

early xantias suffered from ecu faults(eeprom faults).at my last count a few years ago citroen had updated its ecu eight times.
normally when a cylinder shuts down, ie:no feed to coil,norally it points to a component fault rather than a wiring fault.

I have a misfire on a 93 Xantia 16V (the early 155bhp engine with separate coils).
There is no spark at no 3 cylinder. The engine management auto diagnosis lamp is not lit.
I have changed the plugs - no spark
I have moved the coils around - still no spark.
So I'm presuming a wiring fault somewhere...(?)

Don't know about a 95 bog standard version, but my 97 LX which is just up from bog standard had the wiring there for electric rear windows, so I bunged'em in.
Whip a door card off and have a gander, or look at the cable grommit going from body to door, if you can feel a bunch of cables going through it then its likely that its pre-wired for the...

Glenn, I had just these problems a few weeks ago. It transpired that the earth strap from battery to gearbox was crimped at the engine end and this had broken down. Remove thorx screws from underneath inside handle, remove cover plate for wing mirror. Using small flat ended screwdriver, remove lock button (its fiddly, push small clip in and it should come off the end of the rod its attached to). Prise electric window switches out and remove connector. Pull speaker grill off and remove and disconnect speaker....

I'm led to believe that Hydraflush doesn't damage the system, so much as if you were to leave engine oil flush in the oil you use, that it would eventually eat its way through the seals etc.

For instance, if after hydracleaning the Total Hydraurincage is not entirely removed from the system, how dangerous could this be?
If it there's no risk, how about using a permanent a mix of LHM and Hydraurincage (let's say 90/10)?

The starter motor on my XM 2.5 TD has started to get a bit sluggish and after checking the battery, which is less than two years old it seems the answer may lie in either the connections or the starter motor itself.
Has anyone any experience of this with a 2.5 before I get my overalls on and get under it?

Happened to me once when I had a front tyre carcass start to disintegrate internally. Isolated it with a front-to-back tyre swap. However, I guess that there could be other reasons for the shake.

Ah - the faded red BX look.
How about some of that coloured polish? Most of the faded red cits/pugs do have a tendency to stay pink once left neglected - but will stay red if properly looked after with regular elbow grease. The BX plastic bonnets and spoilers seem more prone to lose colour than other parts, for some reason.

What mileage has the car done?
£250 seems cheap for a HG. Whenever I've done HG jobs (although I've never done a diesel) I've always reground the valves and replaced the oil seals and usualy done a (at least top end) de-coke. I doubt they're going to do all this for £250, it's just up to you how far you want them to go.

Its official, went to get the car chemical tested at independant pug/cit trained mechanics on saturday to see if head gasket is failing but didn't need to, as there are now so many bubbles coming up, it looked like a a bottle of fizzy drink.
To fix will be around £250, that incl replacing cam timing belt and getting head checked/skimmed. Take upto...

I had a call from an owner of a Xantia 2.0 CT from a cooler state than the one I live in who has a problem.
It seems that first thing in the morning, the car will wind over but not start for 4 or 5 times. However, once the car has started, it will start normally for the rest of the day.
It's done around 130K klms and hasn't had the injectors...
